Joanna Briley hops on to chat with us about the Black Women in Comedy Laff Fest, a comedy festival in New York City that showcases Black women from across the country. Although it is still in its early years, the festival is already gaining attention from industry nationwide. Give this episode a listen and learn a little bit before the festival blows all the way up! 

Tola Lawal is one of the most impressive entrepreneur / philanthropist / hustlers we've had the opportunity to speak to. She has created a network and mentoring program for Black girls to get experience in large corporate and arts-oriented environments so they are exposed to new opportunities and new networks. It's a truly revolutionary way to "reach back" and we LOVED speaking with her.

Gab Bonesso is such a ray of sunshine! Her musical comedy act tours around the country's elementary and high schools to teach kids about bullying and empathy. She is so wonderful and you should definitely give this one a listen! 

Pat and Lo are maybe my favorite people ever! While weed legalization gets on its way in New York, WOCC is working to make sure Black women have a seat at the table. Traditionally wealthy white entrepreneurs are the ones who move in once legalization takes place (ie Denver), and these guys are working to make sure the promise of equitable distribution is realized. 

We LOVED talking with Pat and Lo AND we are starting a monthly (in person!) comedy show with WOCC in Bushwick on July 22nd. Give it a listen, support WOCC and come laugh with us in July!

It's Earth Day baby and we're talking about dirt!! It's the least talked about environmental issue that everyone should know about. It's how we feed our people, and it has effects on the water we drink. 

Proper soil management is the only way we will be able to move forward as a people (assuming we want to eat), and you should give this a listen to get a taste of why it is so important. 

Mary Chambers is on the council of regenerative agriculture for the Sierra Club and she's a big ol wealth of knowledge. Give it a listen, share and tell your weird uncle about it! 

The Heavenly Center was started by Scott Storch and Joe Schrank to use cannabis to combat drug addiction. There are so many rehab facilities out there, and the work The Heavenly Center is doing is truly remarkable! There recidivism rates are the lowest in the area, and they do it all through weed baby!! 

We get high, and Nick and Joe school us on the benefits of rehab through cannabis. It's a great listen... So listen!

We discuss white allyship in terms of achieving equal rights for Black people. We talk about how to deal with fatigue in championing Black people's rights, how to talk to your family in a way that leads to progress, and how white people can help in different ways. 

The conversation was incredibly enlightening and we think you should give it a listen, and give it a share! 

This one was a real honor! Activists, legal scholars, politicians, and overall great humans; Hawk and Chivona embody the revolutionary thought process and goals that the Black Lives Matter movement strives for. Hawk and Chivona started BLM of Greater New York from their mother's kitchen table, and to get a snapshot into where they are now was really inspiring! 

Franqi's first guest she wanted to get on the show was Hawk Newsome, and to have the opportunity to speak with him and Chivona was a treat to say the least. Give it a listen! 

We had Oye Car and Dan Blednick on this episode to talk about giving kids the opportunity to succeed in the competitive NYC educational space through a holistic approach - everything from providing sports equipment, to meeting with counselors and parents to make sure people going through the TEAK program (Starting at 6th grade!) are given every opportunity to excel, and reach their full potential! 

Also, Stephen has a mustache and everyone LOVED it! 

Franqi and Stephen chatted with Carina Cruz, Ferni Cruz, and Jomar Lopez from Breakthrough New York to discuss their mentorship program that takes kids in underserved communities and offers guidance for 10 years as they make their way through the competitive landscape that is the New York schooling system. 

Breakthrough is working wonders to address societal education access, and you should be learned up on all of it! 

Dr. Theo and Jerome are two incredible souls, educators and change makers from America Needs You, a group who supports first generation college students by offering mentors and a network to not only succeed in higher education, but to capitalize on that education once they graduate. We talk about real solutions to inequity and how to take understanding "it's not what you know, but who you know" and building an environment for people who have grown up with less privilege, and less access to social capital to excel. 

Supporting the community of Selma is full of incredibly hard and rewarding work. We spoke to Chad McEachern of the Edmundite Missions in Selma about learning from a community before coming up with ways to help. They're building up the Black farming communities, and providing everything from food to educational support to the city, and they're doing it in a way we hope to be replicated throughout the country! 

Andrew Nadeau, Nash Flynn and Just Some Guy join us to chat about the virtual fundraising comedy show they've been running out of Chicago and Boston to support Black Lives Matter. We had a great conversation about how white people can be allies to support black causes. 

Are we biased? Yes, BUT I think this was the funniest episode yet. Give it a listen pretty please! 

We CANNOT get enough of Dr. Moss! She has such a wonderful energy and she has accomplished so much with the constant goal of providing opportunities to Black and Latino students in New York City, and beyond!  

In this episode we discuss diversity and inclusion in the workplace, school and the nonprofit sector (Where only 8% of executives are people of color). Franqi and Dr. Moss discuss their personal experiences of encountering discrimination in the workplace, and how we can work together to create a more equitable environment for everyone to succeed in. Feed the People is a mutual aid organization. What is mutual aid?? Well you're just going to have to listen to find out. We had a wonderful time speaking with Charity about the work she is doing to keep the people of Washington, DC fed, clothed, and provided with their basic needs. 

Charity is a beautiful soul and a standup comic who has been working over the last couple years to provide a number of services to humans throughout the District to survive and thrive. It was such a pleasure to speak with her, and it will be an even greater pleasure to give this episodea listen! 

This one is a big ol doozy!! We are so excited to announce our partnership with Lululemon! We discuss food security, access to health information in lower socioeconomic areas, and eating Sour Patch Kids in bed. 

Franqi and Stephen are working with companies that are driving social change, and discussing how we can learn more about the life experiences of people outside of our bubbles. This is a great show and I say that in the most unbiased way possible. 

We're talking money babyyyyy!! On this episode we sit down with a dear friend, Scott Bennett to discuss the work 3rd Decade is doing to provide financial literacy to those that may not have it (including myself and Franqi!). 

From helping teachers put away enough money to retire, to speaking to young families that wish to see some semblance of "the American dream." 3rd Decade works with populations that typically have a tougher time achieving that dream, and gives them the tools to get there! 

We find out that Beanie Babies are not the investment I thought they were, and that not all financial advisors are promoting Bitcoin as a sure bet going into 2021. We all learned a lot!

Comedy Gives Back has been helping out of work comedians find financial and mental health support for quite some time, but really ramped up their ability to make an impact when Covid hit. This was my favorite episode yet (Don't tell the others!) so give it a listen!

Avenues for Justice works with promising teens and young adults who have been incarcerated to give them a second opportunity. The average rate of recidivism for people who have been incarcerated is 60%. People who go through the AFJ program see a 5% return rate. Give the episode a listen and learn how!
