Episode 22: Grasping at Semitic Straws (aka The Milk Episode)
It’s low key been almost a YEAR since our last episode and holy moly we missed you all so much. In classic “us” fashion we recorded this in 2021 then life got in the way and we got distracted but not to worry we are BACK. Starting off the episode with some hot takes on milk, horses, and lost souls, we then boogie right on into a good ol Kush Korner. We throw it all the way back to basics in this ep: Rachel does a little diddy about the Torah portion, Lindsey does a little diddy about witchcraft, we discuss our dream blunt rotations and close by playing a rousing round of “is this kosher?” We say it every time but only cause we mean it - it’s the best episode yet. Buckle up Cool Hot Girls and Kind Dudes!
Episode 21: Waxing semitic on our shalosh-aversary
We know! Passover was a while ago but like the Hebrews leaving Egypt, we’re also on a ~journey~ and we’re doing the best we can. So we dabble in Passover this episode but there’s a LOT more we have to say. Lindsey starts out by not really telling us specifically about the Passover story but explaining how we find our own divine gifts and a purpose for which to use them. We promise it tracks. Our JewISH is something no one is thinking about and that no one cares about - vaccination! All you need to know is you should do it. But still listen to the spiel. We close out this spicy little semitic sesh with our very own 10 Plagues and, of course, is this kosher? Even though Passover is over you will NOT want to miss this. Break out your stale matzah, crack a white claw, and settle on in. Sooooo happy to be here.
Staying chai-drated
Two things we discovered while recording this episode: we have a strange affinity for using different bodies of water as metaphors, and Jews do in fact control the world. Jk about #2. Kinda. Anyhoo, we’re here to celebrate Tu Bishvat, aka the New Year of the Treez (perfect for us, right?). We start this glorious holiday episode with a lil catch up sesh, and after Lindsey almost forgets to ask Rachel what’s new in her life, we plop ourselves down in our kozy little Kush Korner and chit chat about where we got our jazz cabbage. Rachel takes us through the meaning of Tu Bishvat and how to make meaning out of a tree-filled holiday when you hate nature, and Lindsey then discusses the misconception that Jews and the Illuminati are one and the same. We close by giving each other blessings, cause we’re besties and also so fucking cute, and of course, end with a splish splashy round of “Is this kosher?” We say it every time but we never lie. This is our best episode yet and we’re SO fucking happy to be here!
A Whimsical Honk
Its the party episode! It’s been a little bit and so much has happened and this is a thiccccc episode so get your jazz cabbage ready and settle in for our spiciest episode yet - think “Buffalo wings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner” spicy. After chit chatting about onomatopoeia, being smart vs. being wise, and Colonial Cannabis, we shimmy right into some sizzlin celebrations. We talk about two of the most joyous Jewish holidays, Sukkot and Simcha Torah, and in hindsight, we should have done a drinking game for this but theres always next year. But you should definitely take shots while you listen. We round us out by answering some listener questions and playing a rousing round of “Is This Kosher?” These holidays are almost as fun as this episode. L’chaim baby!
Chai Holidaze (ROUND 2!)
Dear, dear listeners. 5780 has been a wild ride. We’ve taken one more trip around the sun since our last chai Holidaze episode, and we know what you’re thinking: the high holidays are over. And we know, because we have Instagram and saw all of our camp friends’ socially distant bagels and lox, but it’s still our fave holiday and we couldn’t resist sharing our thoughts with y’all (Rachel is writing this, can she pull off y’all?). Since this is such a juicy episode we don’t want to give TOO much away, but at a CHAI level (couldn’t resist), we talk Salem, memes, a meaningful Yom Kippur, orgasms, cool hot girlTM, is this kosher?, and MORE. Think of this kind of like a blast from the past and also a prediction of the future. Crazy, right? Just you wait. So. Happy. To. Be. HERE!
Sufficiently Quarantined
What do deer skulls, googly eyes, and dating apps have in common? They are ALL talked about in this brand new ~virtual~ episode of Sufficiently Chai. Rachel’s in Boston, Lindsey’s on the moon (she’s actually in Terlingua, Texas and she’s really leaning into it), and we haven’t heard ourselves talk in a while, so we figured the best thing to do during quarantine was give you all a lil splash of semitism to spice up social distancing. We dive into how we each choose to infuse our Jewish values and spirituality to help make sense of the new normal we’re living in and discuss things like Tikkun Olam, Tikkun Atzmi, and the story of how we met - which is the real highlight tbh. To keep you on your toes we switch things up a little bit and answer some listener questions (!!) but, of course, close out with a rousing round of “Is this kosher?” We say it every time but only cause we mean it - we’ve never been funnier and this is our best episode yet.
Some other cute news: it’s almost the one year anniversary of Sufficiently Chai! Not yet, but soon. Just letting you all know in advance.
**UPDATE: Rachel came across a resume with someone’s picture on it who she is obsessed with before speaking to, so sometimes it can work in your favor. Exception. NOT rule.**
A Merry Marijuanukkah
A super special episode is coming at you hot from Rachel’s childhood bedroom to close out sweet, sweet, 2019. Lindsey & Rachel are, surprise surprise, really feeling themselves this evening and are more excited than ever to talk about life, love, and Torah (what else is there, really). After catching up on the various antics your favorite blond Jewish stoners have found themselves in over the past couple months (think: threesomes, Miami, marriage, - not all at once!), they take a little stroll through Hanukkah Lane and talk about all sorts of fun shit. Rachel goes through the story of Hanukkah and is positively shocked at all of the things she didn’t know, specifically that Lindsey considers Bill Nye the Science Guy a 1 on the Binary scale. Lindsey takes us downtown to the Book of the Maccabees and discusses the importance of reflecting on our history and the people who made us. We then get really cute and give each other 3 Hanukkah wishes!! We KNOW. We can’t stand it either. Obviously we have to close out by playing a scintillating round of “Is this kosher?” You’ll laugh, you’ll “smh”, you’ll laugh again. SO HAPPY TO BE HERE.
