Lucky number 13! When you saw this title you probably thought, "Sylvia, I know this stuff". Well let’s make sure you know what ESA wants you to know. The exam definitions are very specific and knowing the right definition of IPM is a start. The episode will also look at the important ingredients and execution of a good inspection including tools and reports.

Insecticides are an important part of pest management and understanding "What" they are and Why we use them is an important part of ACE. This will be a two part series.
Wood Destroying Insects
This episode will look at the wood destroying insects. If you following along with the ACE study manual " IPM for the Urban Professional" then the good news is everything you need is here. If your not using the book go to the content list on the ESA website and then look up each insect. This episode is an over view and will require reading. Pay attention to compare and contrast topics such as how do the termites differ in where they live? What beetles like hardwoods? Which beetles like moisture?

This episode will discuss the flies and what key species to focus on when studying for the ACE exam. This information is from the IPM for the Urban Professional pages 151 -158 or can also be found the NPMA Field guide under each specfic pest.

Where do I begin? This is a bonus episode for any of you trying to get started and apply for the exam. I will cover where to get the information to apply along with the resources needed to prepare to study!

We will start working on the specific structural pests which is Chapter 10 of "IPM for the Urban Professional". It is now a good time to mention that a second resource or reference piece can be really helpful with undersatnding each insect in these groups. The NPMA field guide either in print or digital ( There is an app!) is very helpful. Other resources that can be used are Mallis The Handbook of Pest Control or Truman Scientific Guide. You do not need all three..... just one! I know I am throwing out alot of terms, so make sure you go back and look up this information! If you have any questions, Spotify has a message system!
