Episode 4: Back to school in November: How COVID-19 has affected us as teachers

Episode 4: Back to school in November: How COVID-19 has affected us as teachers

I’m finally back in the she shed with my friends! So much has happened since our last episode, there have been protests over going back to school and there has been racial unrest and there has been the 2020 US presidential election!!
Needless to say, there has been a little angst here. In this episode, we are on location with our friends Tom and Chez, two teachers figuring out this global pandemic just like the rest of us.

I touched briefly on my abusive relationship with education, and discuss what I might want to be when I grow up.

How has this pandemic affected you? Are you loving your job more or less these days? Do you feel more or less valued In your profession due to the pandemic, or has nothing changed at all?

I'm sick of having to talk about racism, but I won't stop.

Episode 2: Interview with a William

Episode 2: Interview with a William

It is a rainy day in the she shed.

Today I'm joined by my friend William, a city planner, who is going to tell you about how COVID has affected his life. We discuss the future of working remotely in the post-COVID environment and what grinds our gears.

We discuss wearing masks and how they affect your breathing,(and smelling your breath - gah!).

Pandemic shopping for one, country cooking including chicken paws and lessons learned from the Greatest Generation, our grandparents, and great-grandparents who lived through the Great Depression. Hard times and lessons learned from our Boomer parents about surviving and thriving in them.

Eating leftovers with an attitude and being thankful for them, Disney day at home, creating our normalcy, bringing what you miss from going out into your house, and dancing with yourself, too.

I am talking about my fondest ambition of being a hermit, sitting on my front porch with a shotgun.

What to do when your thoughts race and your mind becomes overwhelmed - mindfulness.

We have hope in humanity yet. We agree that we have a long way to go.

This week we're avoiding:

Numbing - overeating, drinking

We're embracing:

Mindfulness - yoga, and meditation

What's up with you?

William shares what people can do in their communities to help one another thrive during this difficult time. Shop local. Support local restaurants. Who is open for takeout and delivery? Patience, smiling behind our masks, doing self-care, are all critical.

Get a cook's recipe for William's roast chicken with red new potatoes.

Check-in with your family and friends when you can. Do your best where you are with what you have. Take care of yourself. Namaste.

Episode 1 : Boomers on Boats! 5/28/2020

Episode 1 : Boomers on Boats! 5/28/2020

Welcome!

Relax with us! Join us in our retreat - The She Shed - where we shed our shit. In this episode, My good friend, Wen, tells the tale of her Boomer parents and their boating adventures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We want to hear from you. Leave a message for us in the She Shed here: https://anchor.fm/TALB/message

How are you doing? How are you and your family handling the craziness of the pandemic?

None of us has ever done this before, so there's no perfect way to quarantine.  Please adhere to the CDC guidelines as much as you can.  (You can find the CDC guidelines at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html

This week we're working on:

*Hydration

*Breathing

*Allow yourself to feel your feelings and not get too involved in them.

*Avoiding numbing

We do drop some F-bombs, so beware if you're sensitive to that. We're talking about parent and Mother-in-law issues this episode. A coincidence? You decide. What end of the year/beginning of summer traditions are you missing? How are you making up for it? We're talking about a drive-thru prom and supporting students while socially distancing. Also, guilt. All the guilt and the flipside of it, self-care. Self-care is NOT selfish. This week's method of self-care is meditation. We use the headspace app in the She Shed. They're currently offering free meditations for unemployed people. Check them out here. Rachel Hollis has been my inspiration to start this podcast. If you're not familiar with her work, check her out here!

Show Notes:

One word that will change your life (Non-affiliate link) - This book was given to everyone on our campus this year and helped guide my journey this year.  It is a quick, excellent read. ˚Kim's word for the year is Truth. What's your word? Share your one word with the She Shed crew here.

For those who want to know, Cape Cod Salt and Vinegar Chips have 230 mg of sodium for one serving, which is 18 chips, so they totally can fit into your diet when you're reducing your sodium, but you're going to have to watch it.  Savoritz Rosemary and Garlic crackers from Aldi have 125 mg of sodium for six of them, which is a ridiculously small amount.

We took a vote in the She Shed. Click here to find the best recipe for kale chips. What are you having for dinner?

Mango Trees are magical. If you can grow one, please plant one in honor of those who don't live in the proper climate.

If you're struggling this week:

Suicide Prevention

Being Hurt? Get Help.

Need a meeting? Online meetings for AA, ACOA, AL-ANON, and more.

Thank you for overlooking the sound quality, it is our first episode and we're learning.

Namaste.
