talking off the liver

By Myrta Brunner

Hi, and welcome to 'talking off the liver', where I share about ordinary and extraordinary life in Switzerland.
My name ist Myrta. I am a Swiss graduate (Master of Arts in Religion, Economy and Politics) interested in religion and culture, which is what I mostly share about. Sometimes I have a guest, sometimes it's just me and you. In any case, it's a chill, conversational podcast.
I hope you enjoy listening to my podcast as much as I enjoy doing it! :)
P.S.: Reach out if you have topics or questions you want me to cover!

Writing my master thesis, an emotional rollercoaster

Writing my master thesis, an emotional rollercoaster

Writing the master thesis was the last part of MA "religion – economy – politics". In this episode I share about my experiences during that process. It wasn't always a smooth ride...

Swiss debunk clichés about Switzerland

Swiss debunk clichés about Switzerland

'The Swiss eat cheese everyday.' or 'All Swiss can yodel.' are two clichés about Switzerland. Find out in this episode of talking off the liver how two native Swiss view these and other clichés! My sister and I go through the 'Top 10 clichés about Switzerland' by House of Switzerland (https://houseofswitzerland.org/de/node/789) and comment on '11 things the Swiss get tired of hearing abroad' by The Local (https://www.thelocal.ch/20160928/11-things-the-swiss-get-tired-of-hearing-abroad/). Which (other) clichés about Switzerland have you heard of? Let me know!

Fasnacht – The Swiss Carnival

Fasnacht – The Swiss Carnival

Welcome to Fasnacht, the Swiss carnival that is supposed to frighten away winter. Despite Nicht-Fasnacht (“Not-Fasnacht”) this year, this episode of talking off the liver brings some Fasnacht spirit to you. An essential part of Fasnacht is “Guggemusig” – that’s why invited Selina, a friend who actively participates at Fasnacht playing an instrument in a “Gugge”. Enjoy a glimpse into the colourful and cheerful world of Fasnacht in Switzerland!

Languages in Switzerland and my language learning journey

Languages in Switzerland and my language learning journey

What is the official language of Switzerland? (There are four!) What is the difference between Swiss German and German? In this episode of “talking off the liver” I answer these questions, tell you what my favourite Swiss German word is and introduce you to the most useless word I know in a foreign language. Looking forward to your most useless words ;)

“Oh, study of religion... So you want to become a priest?” – Introduction to religious studies

“Oh, study of religion... So you want to become a priest?” – Introduction to religious studies

After telling people that I study religion, I am often asked if I want to become a priest – but one needs to study theology to become a priest, not religious studies. So in this episode I try to clarify the difference between these to disciplines and give a short introduction to religious studies. To give you an impression of topics that can be discussed within the study of religion, I go through classes I attended during my studies.
