Teal Podcast #13 Allergy Friendly meet Nutritious and Delicious

Teal Podcast #13 Allergy Friendly meet Nutritious and Delicious

We're back for some more great conversations with some inspiring and special people within the allergy community and free from space.

Our latest guest is no stranger to allergy life; and certainly is an example of someone who has created their own solutions.  Kari Sherman is the Founder of Tom Pom Organic, a baby food brand inspired by her own experiences of feeding her children, particularly her youngest, Tommy.  He was born with several food allergies, including dairy and peanuts. They struggled to find prepared food he was able to eat and, with little sleep, it was hard to prepare anything from scratch!

Alongside her partner Andy, a GP, they set out to research and innovate a new range of baby food. One that would satisfy a baby’s nutritional needs and taste buds too. And one that would help other parents who need a healthy, safe and convenient option at mealtimes.

So Tom Pom Organic was born. A brand with a purpose, here to help parents everywhere live out their own positive, well-balanced weaning story.

Visit our show notes for more information - and be sure to listen to the end of the episode for an extra bonus!

Teal Podcast #12 supporting under-represented allergy groups and new parents

Teal Podcast #12 supporting under-represented allergy groups and new parents

It is the first season finale of the Teal Podcast and we want to thanks all our guests and listeners for an epic start to a new chapter for us. We have had so many great conversations. We've laughed, shed the odd tear and gained poignant insights into the allergy community and the individuals and organisations who are committed to serving them.

Our latest guest is no exception and stranger to allergy life.  Nessa Keddo is Founder of Munch Free - an allergy friendly, vegan and organic baby and toddler food brand. Nessa launched Munch Free following her son's diagnosis with a dairy and egg allergy at birth, and struggling to find baby food that was allergy friendly. Not only are their products delicious, packed with quality, high fibre and gut friendly ingredients, they also purposely have no 'may contain' warnings. She recently launched Munch Free into Whole Foods Market UK stores, with new listings being announced in the coming months. With a mission to bring delicious, high quality free from infant food to the market, Nessa is also in conversation with international retailers since there is such a gap in the global market".

Here are some of the highlights from the the latest episode of the Teal Podcast.

  • Nessa shares her personal journey from PHD to entrepreneur in the food space; and the lessons learnt to ensure that Munch Free is safe for people with allergies.
  • Nessa provides advice to other aspiring "shepreneurs" on the cusp of starting their own ventures
  • She speaks about the impact of Brexit on her business and international and expansion plans for 2021.
  • As a food manufacturer, Nessa shares her experiences around the pitfalls around labelling and protecting the consumer and the need to change legislation so that there is better control and clarity.
  • The lack of support for under-represented communities and new parents and a need for localised hubs
  • The need for better education and awareness around allergies
