Writing a Memoir: with Lorrine Patterson
Sharing your truth is a huge leap of faith. Can you relate to facing the daily challenge of fighting depression, and the struggle of finding your voice?
In today’s episode, I talk with Lorrine Patterson author of Freeing Your Heart For Love about what it takes to write a memoir, the personal struggle of facing a complicated past, and finding courage, and strength through connecting with her spirituality.
Lorrine Patterson was born in Guam but never got to experience that version of island life. Her family moved to Oahu, Hawaii, when she was only a few months old, and they stayed there until Lorrine turned 12. After watching her parents divorce, she moved to California with her mother. These experiences during her formative years helped create a lasting sense of wonder combined with a curiosity for the world around her.
Lorrine earned her BS in Business Management and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. She has worked in the hotel industry, property management, and facilities management and specializes in customer service. Passionate about all she does, Lorrine stewed over the idea of writing a book for the better part of a decade. It wasn’t until the realities of pandemic life in 2020 took hold that she decided it was finally time to put pen to paper. Lorrine finally discovered her true passion and purpose in life through the suffering and troubling times, bringing some goodness to a world in need.
Her first book, Freeing Your Heart For Love, is a memoir. Lorrine is a simple woman who believes everything happens for a reason. Even if we aren’t meant to understand the reason right away. Armed with this theory, she approaches each new day with contagious enthusiasm.
When she is not nestled into her favorite couch writing, Lorrine enjoys spending quality time with her family. She met the love of her life in 2017 and has never been happier. She loves quiet days at the beach and listening to her three grandchildren splash and play with the innocence only youth provides.

Connection Marketing with Kathryn Thompson
Social media can be scary to navigate, and inadvertently saying the wrong thing can end badly and be forever imprinted into history. As someone who constantly says the wrong “something” at the worst moments—I really can’t stress enough how much this doesn’t help my anxiety in today’s cancel culture. Haha
Fortunately, Kathryn was more than willing to sit down and let me pick her brain on the best strategies for marketing your writing, and yourself, to your target audience.
Kathryn Thompson is a Canadian-based entrepreneur with more than 15 years of marketing and communications experience. She's been featured in Yahoo Finance, New York Weekly, and Entrepreneur as a top entrepreneur. Kathryn is the founder of Creatively Owned, a marketing and communications firm that helps entrepreneurs use the power of words to create instant appeal for what they sell. You can learn more at Creatively Owned, or connect with Kathryn on Facebook and Instagram.

Lets Talk About Sex and Perspective: with Holly Hughes
Welcome to the premier of Season 2!
Today we are talking about writing outside one’s perspective and writing sex scenes with intuitive Holly Hughes.
Sex scenes are a touchy subject (pun intended), especially when it comes to young adult literature. How much is too much — where do you, comfortably, draw the line? I think that line is different for a lot of people. As with most things, what appeals to one person, doesn’t necessarily appeal to the next.
Perspective and sex is a subject that can get a little uncomfortable. Still, I feel it is essential to talk about it, especially in today’s social climate. Writing outside of your perspective and maybe even your comfort zone requires a lot of research. Making believable characters that can stand out independently is what makes or breaks a story. It also brings up the question of intent — why are you including a particular character type in your work? Where do you draw the line between being inclusive, bringing awareness to an under-discussed point of view, and perpetuating a stereotype? I think most can agree a writer needs to think about these things when writing outside of one’s own world experiences and ideas.
I wish I had had a few more people involved in the conversation. It would have been better to hear from representatives from the black community and the trans community. I honestly didn’t expect our discussion to go the direction it went. However, both communities have been on my mind lately, and I feel this is a crucial subject to discuss in life and writing. I would definitely like to revisit this topic in the future to include a voice from both.
If anyone listing would like to participate in a roundtable discussion on underrepresented perspectives in literature, for a future episode you can visit Th3record, or you can connect with me on Facebook and Twitter @4th3Record.

NaNoWriMo 2020 Results
Hello Everyone!
NaNoWriMo has officially completed! How did everyone do? This week I talk about how I did during the challenge and some of the struggles I faced.
This episode will be the last episode for the season break. I was not able to repair my equipment with the parts I ordered. Which is fine with me, as I have a lot going on over the next month.
I mention in this episode that I am looking to collaborate with other writers. If you have a project you would like help with, or a story you would like to share on Th3 Record, feel free to reach out. You can email me at 4th3record.contact@gmail.com. You can also find me on Twitter @4th3record or my author page @stevensdesire.
If you are interested in reading my stories on Medium you can read them @purrfectlyflawed.

Hey Guys,
It is the final week of NaNo! How are you all doing? This is the home stretch. The sprint to the finish line! I can almost taste the victory!
In this episode, I talk about Jonas Macklemore (Mac), his mysterious wife Estrid, and their destiny infused daughter Catrina. I share some of the struggles Mac and Catrina faced learning about a world they never knew existed. I also briefly talk about Bobby Vanholden, the proverbial thorn in Mac's side.
Again, since this is the home stretch, If you guys are struggling reach out to me! Or, check out my episodes on outlining, and story building, to get a little inspiration. I am also usually lurking on Twitter most nights if you want to chat or need to brainstorm! We got this!
Don't forget to check out the bonus episode on my progress, and remember to keep me updated on your progress if you are following along and doing the challenge with me!
You can find me on Facebook and Twitter (@4Th3Record). You can also check out my Blog Th3 Record.
Shameless plug! A little money would certainly help with equipment upgrades and feeding my writing/self-education addiction. Feel free (but not obligated) to make a small donation. All proceeds would be greatly appreciated, and put to very good use providing you with exciting new content!
I'm also trying out a new feature, so if any of my listeners would like to record a message, asking a question, or just to tell me what a great job I'm doing (hint, hint) you can send me a recorded message using this link! If I can figure out how to use it right I may even put it in the show, lol!
Thanks for the continued support guys! See you next week! Keep up the good work, we're almost there!

Hey Everyone!
In today's episode, I'm giving everyone a rundown on the characters for Ascension; my NaNo project. This will span a few episodes, as I will be giving a detailed background on where everyone is coming from; their personalities, and lives.
In this episode, I introduce Vic, Lester, Jo, and a little about Vic's Grandfather, Karl Halden (Hal), and Vic's mother Gertrude.
Next week I will be introducing Marida, Tobias, and Gertrude; giving more background on Hal as well.
Trigger warning: Vic is Non-binary, and It is hard for me to untrain my brain, and stop using gendered pronouns when referring to them. I screw up a lot and switched between pronouns during this episode, most of which I was able to edit out because I caught myself in time, but there are a few spots where I could not edit out my mistakes, without taking out huge chunks of the recording. I also want to own up to being human and hope that everyone understands, and goes easy on me. I promise I am trying very hard to use correct pronouns.
Here is the link to the storyboard video I talk about at the beginning of the episode for any of you who want to give it a shot! How to create a storyboard. As I said, it is a really helpful video, and I plan to give it a try for my next project.

Outlining w/ the 'Script Method'
Hey Guys!
This week I go over how I am outlining my NaNo WIP! I am basically writing like I would be writing a script, fingers crossed it works well for preparing for next month.
Throughout this episode I reference some notes I took during an online Skillshare course I took a few months ago, Learn to Write Movies: Screen Writing Step by Step. I highly recommend checking it out! It was about 4 hours long in total and very informative. I wish I could do it eloquent justice! The credit for this amazing course goes to writer/director John Watts. If you have skillshare please check him out!
