That Was a Show?

That Was a Show?

By Radio Gizmo: Brynn, Aaron & Barry
The podcast about failed or forgotten sitcoms from the 80s and 90s.

Many sitcoms have stood the test of time and have millions of adoring fans—but those shows were diamonds in the rough. This podcast is not about those diamonds, it's about the rough. Some sitcoms were briefly popular in their time, some were cancelled almost immediately. You probably won't recognize most of these, and you'll say 'that was a show?'

Hosted by Brynn Byrne, Aaron Yeger, and Andrew "Barry" Helmer.

A Radio Gizmo Production.

Davis Rules Deleted Scenes
Welcome to our first ever That Was a Show? bonus episode...Davis Rules Deleted Scenes! From the 90s obsession with mini golf, to our adolescent assumptions about Mad About You, some parts of our Davis Rules discussion went off on tangents that didn’t really fit with the plot. So here they are anyway! Davis Rules
Davis Rules WAS a show. Legendary comedian Jonathan Winters riffs to his heart’s content, while bombastic movie star Randy Quaid plays a calm, subdued family man (?) Plus Patricia Clarkson almost, and then actually, becomes a nun. Brynn, Barry and Aaron go down a Randy Quaid rabbit hole, but inevitably veer back into debating whether or not Davis does in fact rule. Muddling Through
Muddling Through WAS a show. It’s the story of Connie Drago, an ex-con who returns from prison to run the family roadhouse diner/motel and reunite with her daughters. But really it’s the story of a sitcom featuring Jennifer Aniston which debuted moments before Friends, and due to contractual obligations could have resulted in the re-casting of Rachel Green. We put on our aprons and serve up the story. Townies
Townies WAS a show. It’s like Friends but set in a blue collar fishing village in Massachusetts. It starred Molly Ringwald, pre-Dharma Jenna Elfman and Bill “Billy” Burr. What went wrong? We embark on a voyage to find out! Listen to the episode and follow us on Instagram @thatwasashow to find out about our new merch, and for an exciting announcement about our very first contest! Woops!
Whoops! WAS a show. Actually they spelled it "Woops!" When an accidental nuclear holocaust destroys the planet, it’s up to six lone survivors to rebuild civilization while hanging out in a random farmhouse in California. It’s basically a post-apocalyptic Cheers. This left us with a lot of questions...first and foremost: what happened to the H in the title? Teen Angel
Teen Angel WAS a show. Apparently there needed to be a boy’s equivalent of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, so they kill a teen by having him eat a six month old hamburger. The boy becomes his best friend’s guardian angel, and Marcia Brady’s there too. Confused? So were we. Aliens in the Family
Aliens in the Family WAS a show. This late 90s sitcom was the answer to a question no one asked: what if you combined the blended family shenanigans of the Brady Bunch with the muppets from the Jim Henson Company's "Dinosaurs"? But you know… aliens. Brynn, Aaron and Barry perform an alien autopsy to get to the bottom of it!
