S3E9 - The Spooky Side of the Cut Off Youth Center
The Cut Off Youth Center is a well-known establishment down the bayou and is home to the Hurricane Fest, SL Biddy, Hurricane Swim Team, and many other teams and activities. It also seems to be the home of a few other things on the spooky side. We definitely have our fair share of stories and folklore down here, but today we will dive into the paranormal happenings at this establishment. You see them on Friday nights supporting the fighting Tarpons and marching up and down LA1 during Mardi Gras, but the South Lafourche Band does so much more. S3E7 - Lilly Collins Riera
Her father captured the spirit of the bayou through photography, painting, and even some carving. At a very young age, an artistic seed was planted, and it was not until her retirement years that she really found her artistic calling. In this episode, we talk to Lilly Collins Riera, a Golden Meadow native, who has found a way to revive old memories by bringing her painting talents and passion for antiques together, to tell a story for her customers. S3E6 - Beau and Michelle Brooks
Beau and Michelle Brooks are practicing attorneys in Thibodaux, LA, and parents to three amazing children. After having two girls, the Brooks family found out that they were going to have a boy. Beau had dreams of what life would be with a son. He would be able to hunt and fish with him, watch him play sports, have someone carry on the family name, etc. He had dreamed for so long about having a son and that dream was coming true. On November 18, 2015, Beau and Michelle’s son came, but it was not the son that Beau had dreamed about. In this episode, Beau and Michelle tell us the story about their son Spencer and how they have turned an unexpected situation into an amazing journey! In 2018, Nicole and Darby Bourgeois experienced the worst thing to ever happen to parents, when they lost their son Riley John. Riley Bourgeois was a two year old, energetic child, that lost his life due to drowning. His physical time on Earth may have been short, but Riley is still impacting lives today and will continue for many more years to come! In this episode, Brennan talks to Riley’s parents, Nicole and Darby, about Riley’s story, how his life is impacting others, and what they are doing to prevent other families from having to experience a similar tragedy. In Season 1, we talked to Lauren Lapeyrouse Guidry, the recipient of a double lung transplant. We thought that since we had the opportunity to hear from someone of the receiving end, it would be great to hear from someone on the giving end. Jacie LeBoeuf, a down the bayou native, is a donor and advocate for Be the Match. Be The Match is a global leader in bone marrow transplantation. They conduct research to improve transplant outcomes, provide support and resources for patients, and partner with a global network. When you look at a map of Louisiana, the South Lafourche community stands out almost as an island surrounded by water and a withering marsh. The reason this area stands out so much is because of the hurricane protection levee that surrounds the community. Since the 1960’s, the South Lafourche Levee District has been working diligently to protect the South Lafourche community from floods and coastal erosion. In this episode, Brennan Matherne sits down with recently retired General Manager, Windell Curole, and new General Manager Nicholas Matherne. Do you remember when you were a child and your parents would tell you that you could be anything you wanted to be, you just had to put in the work? Most children would say they wanted to be a policeman, an astronaut, a singer, or even a brain surgeon. The guest in this episode took that parental guidance to heart and did in fact become a surgeon… a neurosurgeon. In 2019, Lafourche Parish elected its youngest parish president. At the age of 34, Archie Chaisson III, became the leader of Lafourche Parish, which was heading into unprecedented times. In his first two years of office, Parish President Chaisson had to lead our community through a global pandemic and one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the Louisiana coast. Since then, the Trahan family has found peace and comfort with telling Maddry’s story and identified unique way to carry on their daughter’s legacy, while helping others. By doing this, they are able to help provide emotional and financial support to other families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss.
