Clinton Ignatov was born in 1988 in Scarborough, Ontario. Growing up an hour's drive from Toronto in a small town, he developed an early interest in reading, computers, Star Trek, and karaoke. He began visiting the local library regularly to use the internet, eventually getting dial-up in his home around the year 2000. Some of his favourite websites to browse as a teenager were Fark.com, an American news aggregator, and Slashdot.org, a community revolving around the computer industry. The immersion in the daily discussions of politically and geographically diverse posters from Fark.com informs his understanding of American culture. And Slashdot.org developed his strong interest in Free computer culture leading him to erase Windows and begin using different versions of the GNU/Linux operating system on his desktop computer.
His Computer Science studies at Carleton University in Ottawa were interrupted, and he acquired work first as a computer repair technician, and then full time selling magazines. Having witnessed the rise of the smartphone and social media industry, he now feels there is a need for voices who can provide informed perspectives on modern digital society and their effects on culture. By using old ideas to contextualize the present, such as cyberspace and the ideas of Marshall McLuhan, he hopes to offer some historical perspective which could make phenomena like "Twitter mobs" and contemporary polarized politics more easily understood.

Andrew McLuhan has some keen insights into how the world will change after COVID. I particularly liked the reference he made to how the arts will morph. He also explains what Marshall meant by 'medium'. Andrew is cataloging every one of the thousands of mentions his media guru grandfather, Dr. Marshall McLuhan, made to his phrase, "the medium is the message" at his site website https://www.tmitm.com/
. Also, here is the YouTube video Andrew makes reference to in the podcast between Marshall McLuhan and Norm Mailer. It's dense. Not gonna lie but fascinating if you are interested. Here's the link - https://youtu.be/PtrJntaTlic

Patrick Peyton (help·info) (January 9, 1909 – June 3, 1992), also known as The Rosary Priest, was an Irish Roman Catholic priest and promoter of the Rosary. Peyton is the founder of the post-World War II prayer movement called, "Family Rosary Crusade". This campaign was harnessed by the CIA between 1958 and 1965 and was funded in order to combat leftist influence in Latin America, during the Cold War. Father Peyton staged massive Rosary rallies in key cities of the world and extensively utilized mass communication, helped by world-recognized celebrities of Hollywood at that time, promoting his ministry of binding families through prayer under the Family Rosary. Peyton was a popular and charismatic figure in Latin America and the Philippines, where he promoted the Rosary and was known for his strong Irish accent. Peyton once said that "The family that prays together stays together" and "A world at prayer is a world at peace".

Marshall McLuhan, a pioneer of modern media scholarship, originated concepts like "surfing" and "the global village," anticipated the World Wide Web by 30 years, and predicted both the dehumanizing effects of media and its unitive possibilities. Servant of God, Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., interviewed him in a 1970s program, A Matter of Faith. Here McLuhan discusses the value of the replay, the effects media has on interpersonal relationships, and faith and resonance.

Marshall McLuhan is one of the most famous media theorists because he basically started the field. If we want to understand our tools, theories, discursive life, or even consciousness itself, then we have to understand media... because as McLuhan argues, the medium IS the message. What characterizes us now in the age of the internet? The internet and the plurality of new media has added dimensions to the human condition. We are joined for Marshal McLuhan's birthday by his grandson, Andrew McLuhan. Andrew is putting his father and his frandfather's legacy into practice through the McLuhan institute. I look forward to talking about how technology shapes our understanding, and beginning the long journey of thinking with the McLuhans as we move forward into increasingly complex times.

Tom Wolfe suggests that a hidden influence on McLuhan's work is the Catholic philosopher Teilhard de Chardin whose ideas anticipated those of McLuhan, especially the evolution of the human mind into the "noosphere". Wolfe theorizes that McLuhan may have thought that association of his ideas with those of a Catholic theologian, albeit one suppressed by Rome, might have denied him the intellectual audience he wanted to reach and so omitted all reference of de Chardin from his published work, while privately acknowledging his influence.

Cable News provides a breathless feed of White House statements, public health statistics, and Federal Reserve actions. We want to focus on the contributions of scientists, artists, social entrepreneurs, and communities from which we all can learn. The show is entertainment and showcase of our collective ingenuity and innovation, curious and connecting. It’s built for a moment when our human, social, emotional and media needs are different than they were only yesterday. Its aspiration is to build a foundation and connections for a more resilient tomorrow that can emerge once this crisis ends and we build our future.

Interviewer: Nina Sutton
Background: My [Nina Sutton] encounter with Marshall McLuhan took place in the fall of ‘75. I'd published a book in French about the Watergate scandal – my publisher was eager to have another book by me. He suggested, because that was all the rage at the time, that I do what we called a book interview with someone. You would do an in-depth interview and write the book in the first person and then the person interviewed would sign it. So I said Marshall McLuhan.

This recording is of Eric McLuhan's contribution (and a few questions/answers/comments following) to a panel at the MEA annual conference in June 2017. The panel's title refers to a book which had at the time recently been published, somewhat of a reaction to Eric McLuhan's book 'Media and Formal Cause' [Eric and Marshall McLuhan, NeoPoiesis Press, 2011]. Eric's book itself was a reaction to a discussion among people on the MEA mailing list which, according to Eric, forced him to delve deep into the subject to put the matter at rest - at least for and to his own satisfaction. A few years later, presumably for their own satisfaction, several members of the MEA, (including Anton, Logan, and Strate, editors of the books and members of this panel heard at the end) published 'Taking up McLuhan's Cause: Perspectives on Media and Formal Causality', to which Eric McLuhan wrote an introduction. It is a bit of a full-circle moment, as Eric was annoyed into researching and writing M/FC by the MEA, then wrote an intro to their published response, then closed the panel resulting from the book at the MEA meeting in 2017 - setting the record (as he saw it) straight while giving insight into the history of Formal Cause (as we know it), it's use to Marshall McLuhan and himself, and more.
