#OshHappyHour March 20/20

On the first of many, I sit down and suck back pints with five Osh goers - Jon, Shan, Ryan, Yara and Phil - and chop it up about life in the quarantine and all the stuff we're doing to stay sane.

Enjoy the show!

Vincent Champagne (AKA The Giant Beer Man)

Vincent Champagne (AKA The Giant Beer Man)

We've been talking about it all year.

Now, finally, Vincent (@ChampagnePalace) comes through my Air BNB on the Monday after Osheaga to shoot the shit for an hour about carrying beer, kinks and fetishes, convents, and a whoooooole ton more. I'll tell you what, there is WAY more to this dude than I would have imagined - he's making the most out of his life, and listening to some of the stories he has about his experiences was a pleasure, even if I had a bit of a hangover.

This is The Osh Pod Season One finale - you guys have been outstanding, and I can't wait to light this thing up again next year. A big thanks to Evenko and Osheaga for taking a chance on me, the artists that came on, and most importantly all of you; without festival goers coming on the show and listening to the episodes, this never would have become the fun project it turned into - I owe you all a wealth of thanks for that.

See you next year!

Dear Rouge

Dear Rouge

Live from Friday at Osheaga, Drew and Danielle McTaggart - Dear Rouge - sit down with me to chop it up about creative and romantic partnerships, on-stage wardrobe choices, the project's momentum, and a dark story that led to their biggest fight to date. They even throw a few questions at me during the tail end of the interview leading to some uh...interesting results.

Dear Rouge was the first act I reached out to when the show started to gain a bit of traction, so I was pretty hyped to sit down with them - they're a great act, and Canadian to boot!

Hope you enjoy the interview!

Radiant Baby

Radiant Baby

MY FRIENDS!

On the first of THREE Osheaga weekend episodes, I'm joined by Felix Mongeon, the front man and creative brains behind Radiant Baby - a Montreal based Synth Pop-Funk act that was a LOT of fun on Saturday afternoon. I'll be honest here, I hadn't heard of RB before the lineup for the festival was released, and really dove into their stuff. Once my dad heard Out Crowd and told me he liked it, I knew I had to book the interview - how many times does a 60 year old man enjoy the same tunes as his son?!

Felix was a lot of fun, and we talk about the creative direction of the project, the importance of jumpsuit artwork, the dynamic between him and his better half, and a ton more. A big thanks to Felix and Osheaga for making this possible, hope you guys enjoy the interview!

Ep 026 - Maddie and Sam

Ep 026 - Maddie and Sam

Pals,

In the final episode before the big weekend, I talk to sisters Maddie and Sam about their Osheaga plans. We cover sub par festival spreadsheets, pulling out the tots, dealing with crappy attitudes in you crew, and a whole bunch more. Shout out to the girls for making time for a session a few weeks ago, always tough to clear two schedules for an episode, let alone three, so I appreciate their efforts.

Usually I'd say something nice here, but instead I'll just say this:

Thanks for everything, and see ya tomorrow.

Roy Juno

Roy Juno

On this special episode of the pod, the gents from Roy Juno (Friday Aug 2, 1:00 PM, Perrier Tree Stage) stop in to kill an hour with me on all things life and music. We cover the finer points of peanut allergies, some of the more somber themes of their music, growing as individual musicians and as a group, whats next for each of the guys, why people from Toronto are so beautiful, and a whole bunch more. I had a lot of fun with these guys - you can tell how excited they are to be a part of Osheaga, and how much they've valued their experiences as musicians so far - definitely cooler than what I was doing in my early twenties, so I'm sure you'll all enjoy the stories and experiences they have to share.

Only a few days to go pals, buckle up.

Jason Lalonde (We Are Monroe)

Jason Lalonde (We Are Monroe)

Very special episode today pals, Jason (guitarist, @WeAreMonroe) calls in to chop it up about the band's recent European tour, the evolution of the WAM project, the Osheaga experience and the importance of the home town crowd, plus what it means to bring it at a live show. Oh, and we also cover the perils of parenting in the electronic age, nostalgia as an emotion, being a musician-dad, and we even get a cameo from Jay's daughter.

We Are Monroe is playing Friday (Aug 2) afternoon, 2:20 PM at the Perrier Tree Stage, and they are a sound you won't want to miss - it's really great to hear about a band like these guys, who were off your radar (as they were mine) two years ago, to being a back-up act for Osheaga last year, to getting a wicked afternoon slot this year. I will definitely be there, and I sincerely hope you guys are too - as Jay says during the show, he wants to prove you right for betting on their project. As long as my schedule permits, I'd like to record and release two - three more of these artist podcasts.

A huge thanks to Evenko/Osheaga for putting me in touch with the artists at this year's festival, and also to you guys and gals for continuing to support the show.

Ep 025 - Phil

THE SCHEDULE RUNDOWN POD

Phil (@OshPodPhilly) and I link up at my place to decide where we're going to be during the festival weekend. We do this every year, and have stuck to it approximately zero times over the years, so don't put too much stock in this. Everyone knows how that weekend is as far as scheduling, mood and a number of other factors, so this is really just a shits and giggles exercise, but it's a pretty good discussion (and debate) all the same, you'll dig it.

A big thanks to the listeners at the end of this podcast, and one more ask of you during the festival: I want to do two episodes while I'm in Montreal - I'm arriving Thursday night, and leaving on Tuesday, so if you want to do an episode live and direct, let's make it happen. I'd prefer to do this Thursday evening, Friday morning or Saturday morning and, as a token of my appreciation for listening AND for making it out for an episode, I'll throw in a few beers for your pre-drink that day/night. It's the least I can do, really.  I'd also like to meet as many of you as possible, so I'll send out an APB either in the Reddit Room Chat, or an IG group chat, and we can get a pint together regardless - hopefully Thursday night. It's been a great few months and it wouldn't have been possible without all of you, so thanks again.

PS - Working on a few (hopefully) special shows in the weeks leading up to Osh - stay tuned!

Ep 024 - @MelissaDaniellaa

Ep 024 - @MelissaDaniellaa

On this week's episode of the pod, Melissa (@melissadaniellaa) and I chop it up for a little over an hour. We covered the cult of Radiohead, friendly pick up advice for the boys, weaving through a crowd the right way, and some of our best festival stories. I've known Melissa for a few years now, and it was a pleasure to catch up in advance of the festival weekend - she knows her stuff and your guys will dig the conversation.

As always, hit me up on socials if you want to do an episode. I've been super busy the last few weeks but I'm hoping to record at least one or two more before Osh.

Big shout to everyone who listens, you guys turn the crank and I appreciate the support.

Ep 023 - @linkdmitrilink

Ep 023 - @linkdmitrilink

On episode 23 of the pod, Dmitri calls in from London (shout out to Southern Ontario) and we go deep on life, festivals and everything in between. Dmitri talks about his tattoos (super cool stuff during this part, definitely not what I was expecting), heading to Osheaga without loving any of the acts, whether it's too early to have your day planned out for Osh (it might be, but he's done it), a girl doing tattoos right, and a bunch of other stuff. Dmitri was a dope guest, and I enjoyed our conversation quite a bit - it's always really good to have a guest who knows the music, and takes time to really make sure they're going to have a blast at the fest.

Pals, there are only three weeks to go, and I'm down for a few more interviews before it's all said and done. Get at me, @TheOshPod on IG, and The_Osh_Pod on Reddit and LETS CHOP IT UP.

Shout to the sub as always, continues to amaze me that anyone listens to these, but I really enjoy it and I hope you guys do too.

Ep 022 - Patrick Guay

Ep 022 - Patrick Guay

On a very special Osh Pod episode, Patrick Guay (@PFGuay) - a legit, in the flesh, Evenko talent buyer - stops in the chop it up with me about the the biggest Osheaga draw for artists (it's not what you think, that's for sure), growing with smaller artists, keeping Evenko lineups differentiated, the target demographics for Osheaga, some of this year's biggest sleepers, when and how the festival begins confirming the year's acts, a teaser for some stage and grounds fun activities on deck for 2019, a look ahead to year fifteen in 2020, and (of course) some Kawhi Leonard talk.  A huge thanks to Patrick and Evenko for scheduling this with me - the conversation was awesome, and Pat is only one of eight talent buyers working on this festival for all of us, so I'm grateful for his time.

Get at me if you want to do an episode of the show, I'm always looking for guests and I'd love to get a bunch more of you on to the pod before I wrap for the year. As it stands, we have four episodes scheduled remaining, but I'm happy to spam out a bunch more if need be. You know where to reach me - Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) or IG (@TheOshPod) - don't be shy!

Thanks again to the subreddit for the continued support, show wouldn't be this fun without you guys and gals!

Ep 021 - Chuck

Ep 021 - Chuck

On this episode, with like 5 weeks before the festival, Chuck (H3nrychin4ski) comes by and chews up a few of the more gritty Osh subjects. We cover some of the vices of choice, the security struggle smuggle, recovering from the weekend, along with some of the usual talk about the lineup, schedule and a whole bunch more. Chuck and I have been trying to make this happen since April or so, and I'm glad we (finally) got it done.

You know the drill - if you want to be on the show, drop me a line. I'm still looking for guests and may abandon the once-per-week lineup if I can get more in person guests. Happy to do my best to get everyone on the show - it's been a blast.

Hit me up on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) or IG (@TheOshPod) and let's get it.

Next episode needs some input from you guys, so stay tuned this weekend for a sticky thread in the sub and an IG story too. You'll love it.

Ep 020 - @GrantLikeThe50

Ep 020 - @GrantLikeThe50

Big one today.

On Episode T W E N T Y of the show, Grant (@GrantLikeThe50) stops in on schedule release day, and we go deep. We cover some of the biggest conflicts, Tame's position on the schedule, some of the finer points of Breath of the Wild, and a ton of other stuff. Grant came ready and willing to go twelve rounds, so we did - to the tune of almost an hour and a half on all things music and life. It was dope show, and I'm psyched to release this as episode twenty.

Get at me if you want to do a show - I'm on Reddit as The_Osh_Pod and IG as @TheOshPod. I want to record a few more of these shows before I wrap it up for the year, so shoot me a DM and let's make it happen! As usual, if you're near the Hamilton area, we can do this in person, I'll even buy the beer!

Thanks to everyone for the continued support - I've had a blast, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in Montreal this year. It's so sick that EVERY guest talks about a meetup either during the show or after we wrap, so I'm going to make it happen for everyone. Can't wait.

Ep 019 - Francis

Ep 019 - Francis

On this episode, my man Francis (Schrikk) calls in and chops it up with yours truly. We hit on the best food in MTL, what Osh looks like to a local, heading to the festival solo, functional festival gear, the difference between hitting shows for artists you love and hitting shows you know will be a good time, some updates on the new island setup (futuristic concrete platforms, anyone?) and a bunch of other stuff. Francis was a great guest, and like the other Quebec festival goers I've had on, he had quite a bit to say about Osheaga and other festival related stuff.
Reach out to me on IG (@TheOshPod) or on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) and let's DO A SHOW. There's only about two months to go before we hit the park, so time's running out to jump on - don't be shy pals!
As always, shout to the sub - keeping it 100 since day one.
Jun 12, 201901:12:08
Ep 018 - Phil

Ep 018 - Phil

On this episode of the pod, my long time pal Phil (@OshPodPhilly) comes over to my place to riff on Osheagas past, losing a shirt at the park, some of the best shows we've seen, and a bunch of other stuff you guys will dig. Phil and I have been friends our entire lives, and like I've said many times the people you attend the fest with are at least as important as the music you're going to see, so I'm thrilled to have Phil on the Osh team again this year.

You should, definitely, send me a DM on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) or on IG (@TheOshPod), and we should do an episode. I've had a blast so far, and the whole thing has just been so much fun to talk to you guys/gals about your festival experiences.

Thanks again to the sub, r/osheaga has been super supportive and it's really made the whole thing go. If you told me back in March that I'd even get ads on this show, I'd have laughed, but here we are, and I have you folks to thank for it. I really appreciate it pals!

Peace!

Ep 017 - @Winter.Born.Child

Ep 017 - @Winter.Born.Child

On this episode of the pod, Lupe (@Winter.Born.Child) stops in to discuss the finer points of cross country travel, things to peep in Montreal, dragging friends long distances, and her first time Osheaga expectations. Lupe called in at a time I figured was early for both of us, but as soon as I found out my 10:00 AM was significantly earlier for her on the west coast, I was pretty hyped she made time to do an episode. As usual, I enjoyed the conversation and Lupe went on a few of the longest uninterrupted diatribes I've seen so far, definitely a good conversation.
You already know how to reach out to me - either on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) or on Instagram (@TheOshPod) - if you want to hop on an episode. Hamilton area peeps, definitely DM me and let's talk fest. First round is on me!
Continued thanks to the subreddit (r/Osheaga) for the support - I continue to be surprised by the spins the show gets, and you guys and gals are really making the whole thing turn. Really appreciate it!

Ep 016 - @Maddisonj16

Ep 016 - @Maddisonj16

On the first in-person episode of the pod, I head over to visit Maddie (@Maddisonj16) in the West end of the city. We talk about bringing your SO to Osheaga, festival rides at the park, some really solid Hamilton talk, and a bunch of other stuff I think you'll dig. I have to say, doing the pod in person is a lot of fun - you really get to see how someone is feeling while they're telling their story and it makes for a great discussion. Definitely want to do more of these, whether with Maddie or with other Osh-goers in the area.

Should you come on the podcast? Yes. Drop me a line on Reddit or Instagram (The_Osh_Pod and @TheOshPod) respectively) and let's set something up. I'm looking forward to continuing to talk to you guys, and people are really enjoying the show as well. It continues to be a ton of fun!

Finally, this voice messages thing - give it a shot! Anchor is pushing this quite a bit as evidenced by the ads on the show, so try it and lets see hat it's all about - maybe we can do like an AMA or something, or I'll find some other way to use the stuff you guys send in!

As always, my sincerest thanks for the support - it's very much appreciated, pals!

May 22, 201901:20:41
Ep 015 - @Aryeh_Kozuch

Ep 015 - @Aryeh_Kozuch

On this episode, Lumineers homer and king of the half-smirk Aryeh (@Aryeh_Kozuch) stops in to defend The Loomies, talk heading to the festival with a members of the fairer sex, people of Osheaga and finally delivers some very important facts about ants. The ant-facts turn out to be a bit off base, but he followed up with me in DM afterwards with a correction because he is a MAN OF INTEGRITY.

Aryeh had a ton to say, and it's always good to have a well-spoken dude on the show, especially since we had a bit of a struggle scheduling the episode around the usual life-gets-in-the-way stuff, and the Raptors (god-like) playoff run. Hopefully I get a chance to see the guy in the fields this year come festival time.

You know the drill pals, give me a shout on Instagram or Reddit if you want to do a show! I know it's summer-ish now, and it's definitely my fault these have been slowing down as far as releases go, but I'll do my best to make time for ya!

Reddit Wrap May 10 2019

Reddit Wrap May 10 2019

I brought on hired gun and long time pal Phil (@OshPodPhilly) to help out with the bi-weekly recap show. We cover the Osheaga decibel controversy, catching herpes at Coachella, Ja Rule and Ashanti in place of Gucci Mane, Tinder's new Festival Mode, the new Instagram like update and a bunch of other stuff.

You know the drill, get at me on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) or IG (@TheOshPod)  and let's do an episode.

Thanks as usual everyone, have a swell weekend pals!

May 10, 201942:41
Ep 014 - Pokoroa

Ep 014 - Pokoroa

On this episode of the pod, Telena (Pokoroa) hops on to talk Dirty Shwa, (finally) some love for Black Tiger Sex Machine, Joji/Pink Guy/Cringecore/RnB or whatever genre he plays, her love for Hozier, and some stuff she's looking forward to about heading to Montreal. Yet another dope conversation that ends up hitting a bunch of tangents, and like usual I enjoyed the discussion, and big shout to Telena for her time!

By now, you know how to get a hold of me - Instagram (@TheOshPod) or Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) - if you want to do an episode! Still looking for a willing guests in the Hamilton area as well, so don't be shy! Plus, it's getting pretty nice out, and I know a few patios we could head to for an hour long riff on Osheaga!

Thanks again for the support pals, moving through the 1000s for total downloads now, and I'm sure as the festival draws closer, the traffic will continue to pick up - hopefully you guys continue to support the show and (more importantly) enjoy the conversations!

May 09, 201948:43
Ep 013 - @JustBeJesss

Ep 013 - @JustBeJesss

On this episode, Jess (@JustBeJesss) drops in to chop it up about the absolute most forward ways to scoop up a guy, some of the lesser known Osheaga artists, festival morning routine, the perks of being a flight attendant, being disappointed in your siblings festival choices, and much more. Like I mention during the show, Jess reached out to me everywhere except at my front door, and I'm glad she did - she was a great guest, and hopefully she'll make it on again as the festival draws closer. You'll enjoy this one - I know I did. Like always, send me a DM to make your debut on the show. You can get me on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) or on Instagram (@TheOshPod) and we can set up a time/date. I'm in the GTA/Southern Ontario area, and I'm looking to do some in person stuff as well, so don't be shy! Thanks to the r/osheaga for the support, as always, you pals continue to be super receptive to the show and I'm having a blast talking to all of you. Stay hyped!

Ep 012 - @11thHourBlues

Ep 012 - @11thHourBlues

On this episode, the extremely well versed Alex stops in to talk NXNE, Toronto mini-shows, blended genres from his teenage years, and the highest ceiling acts you've never heard of at this year's festival. Al definitely came ready to talk music, and he knows his stuff going back quite some time, he's got some great thoughts on some of this year's acts, as well as some acts from years past, and I'm sure you will enjoy listening to the conversation as much as I enjoyed having him on.

Like usual, if you want to do an episode of the show, get at me on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) or on Instagram (@TheOshPod) and we can set up a time. Between the NBA playoffs and the warmer weather, it might take a bit longer to schedule something, but there's tons of time before the festival to get everyone on.

If you're in the Hamilton, ON area, I especially want to hear from you - I'd like to do a podcast in person and maybe put out some photo/video to go along with an episode - don't be shy!

Thanks as always to you guys for continuing to listen, and to r/osheaga for continuing to support the show!
Apr 24, 201901:03:26
Ep 011 - @jjulia_hill

Ep 011 - @jjulia_hill

On this episode, Julia (@jjulia_hill) checks in from Taiwan (or somewhere near Taiwan) to talk about Asian music and the festival scene across the pond, her experiences at Osheaga, and dishes on some pick-up tips for the guys looking to uh...make a new friend on Osheaga weekend. I had to wake up early on a Saturday to make this one happen, since Julia is about 12 hours ahead of me, but it was worth it - the conversation was over an hour and Julia had a ton to say, which makes for a great episode.

Like usual. if you want to be on an episode, don't be shy - send me a DM on Reddit (the_osh_pod) or on Instagram (@TheOshPod) and we'll set something up. The response to the podcast has been really great so far, and I want to continue giving you guys a place to tell your stories and chop it up about your Osheaga experiences.

Thanks as always to the r/osheaga crowd - continuing to show support, and it's greatly appreciated on my part.
Apr 17, 201901:20:23
Ep 010 - Air

Ep 010 - Air

On the 10th (TENTH!!!) episode of the pod, Air from the Lone Star State stops in to mash it up about all things SXSW, Osheaga being worth the trip, fizzy drinks to enjoy in the summertime, and some more (much needed) Chemical Brothers shine. I've enjoyed having some of our pals from down South come on to the show; I think there's something to be said for an American (especially one from a major metropolitan area) deeming it a worthy trip up to Montreal just to be at Osheaga. These folks are committed, and why not? Osheaga is a great time, a great crowd, and a perfect way to spend a weekend. You guys know the drill by now - if you want to do an episode, my DMs are open on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) and on Instagram (@TheOshPod). I usually check on everything at least once a day, but with the weather improving all the time, it might take me a little longer than usual to write back. I'll get to the messages though, for sure, and there's lots of time to get everyone on! Again, to the r/osheaga crowd, thanks so much for the support. You guys have been and continue to be a great community, thanks for supporting the show everyone!

Ep 009 - @Willerrzz_

Ep 009 - @Willerrzz_

On this episode, Will (IG: @willerrzz_) from the Beast Coast stops in to chop it up about heading to the fest solo, roundabouts vs. four-way stops, high energy shows, late night artist overlap, being very dark in a fun way and a whole ton more. I enjoyed the conversation, and Will keeps the strong showing from the East coming for more than 50 minutes. Like I mentioned on episode eight, I'm going to start holding these episodes and releasing them every few days or so - give or take - to give people an opportunity to digest the content, and also to give me a bit of time to edit the episodes and what not; the number of people who want to come on the show has been overwhelming, and it's a great problem to have. As always, if you want to come on the show (or know someone that does) send me a DM on IG (@TheOshPod) or on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) and we can set something up. I'm also going to start looking into doing some in person podcasts in the not too distant future, so if you're in Southern Ontario and want to link up for an hour and a beer, let me know and let's make it happen.  If there's a subject or something you want to see covered, let me know - I'm down to talk about almost anything, and I want these to be enjoyable for as many of you as possible.  Again, a big thanks to r/Osheaga for the support - the downloads on the show keep growing, and it's mostly because of you guys. I really appreciate the support!

Ep 008 - @Jondabox

Ep 008 - @Jondabox

On this episode of the pod, Jon (IG: @Jondabox) stops by and the conversation gets cosmic. There is some discussion around festival romances, Nipsey Hustle and Mac Miller, Chiac rappers and a bunch of other topics that I think almost everyone thinks about - it was therapeutic. This one went an hour plus, and I think you'll really enjoy the content. If you want to do an episode of the pod, don't hesitate to reach out - you can DM me on IG (@TheOshPod) or on Reddit (the_osh_pod). Thanks once again for your continued support - you guys listen to these podcasts more than I ever would have guessed, and I'll try to keep them coming as often as possible.

Ep 007 - @RaphMerrette

Ep 007 - @RaphMerrette

On episode seven of the The Osh Pod, Raph (IG: @RaphMerrette, Twitter @RaphaelMerrette) stops by to talk about the Montreal perspective on the festival, slept on late night party spots, gives some much deserved shine to The Chemical Brothers, and describes something called A Melting Pot of Friendship. Really enjoyed this one - evidenced by the 45 minute length, and I think you guys will too.

This episode is sponsored by
CraftCacti.com (@Craft_Cacti_Canada on IG). The best prices (and free shipping) on the famous Peyote, along with a bunch of other seeds and plants - always high quality, and always fresh. Listeners of the pod can get a special buy two, plant products, get one seed product free by using code OshPod19 at checkout. CraftCacti.com is a small business in my hometown, so I'm more than happy to help out, and I hope you guys give them a look next time you want to add a little bit of colour to your spot.

As always, my DMs are open on Reddit (The_Osh_Pod) and Instagram (@TheOshPod) - I want you to reach out and tell your stories on an episode of the show. The conversations are getting longer and longer, and it's all because of your willingness to talk to a guy you've never met about one of the best weekends of the year, so don't be shy!

Thanks for the continued support, especially the r/osheaga crowd - you guys have been great, and it's appreciated on my end!

Ep 005 - Alex (ADHDDAL)

Ep 005 - Alex (ADHDDAL)
