Dr. Paul Dybdahl teaches a course in the M.A. in Cinema Religion and Worldview program called Christian Mission that explores how communication is essential to our mission as believers.

Dr. Lynelle Ellis has dedicated her life to teaching her students how to communicate effectively with film. It is her passion and in this episode she will share some of what she has learned throughout her career.

This week we cover a lot of ground with my guest Caleb Johnson who after finding success in his teens as a painter transitioned to film to seek out a new challenge. He has created 3 feature length films and he shares the insights he has learned along the way.

It seems that lately our society has been heading down a detrimental path that is causing many people to dismiss anyone who doesn’t share their perspective on the world. This can only affect us negatively. It is vital to our growth as humans that we value those with a different perspective and that we maintain an open mind when interacting with people who see the world differently then we do. While it is easy to recognize differences like gender and ethnicity, generational differences play a big role in how we interact with others. This week we are unpacking just what causes these generational differences and how they can lead to breakdowns in communication and understanding.

In order to succeed at anything you have to take the first steps. The question is how do you know what the right first step is? If you can establish your main objective, then you can begin to break it apart and determine what it will take to achieve it. That’s the basic premise behind Crossfit as a training methodology. Each day there is a common work out and every athlete has to determine how that can scale the workout to get the most out of it to achieve their fitness objectives. My guest today is better then most when it comes to programming workouts for his gym to help each person there grow and end the day better then they started it.

Our 21st century education system is still largely unchanged from its 19th century roots. Students are moved along an assembly line of learning with very little regard for their strengths or capacity. If a student isn’t at a certain level by a certain age they are considered to be less capable or intelligent then they should be. In a world where todays students are preparing for jobs that haven’t even been dreamt up yet maybe it is time to begin evolving our educational system to create a true 21st century model of learning. Lake City Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID is taking on that challenge by challenging the status quo and rethinking what a small private school is capable of in our modern economy. Principal Adam Weeks is leading the school to embrace all the good that technology offers for the education of todays learners and is reshaping the future of LCA. This week I’m talking with folk artist and rapper, Lee Givhan. We are going to dig into his creative process for writing lyrics and creating music. We also discuss why hip hop has the ability to communicate more content in a single song then any other genre, and why that makes it an excellent medium to communicate the gospel.

Sometimes a business just stands apart from the crowd. I have always wanted to sit down with someone who had built one of those businesses and learn how they created their culture and maintain it as people come and go. Joey has built two of those types of businesses and in this conversation he opens up about the challenges he faced and what it takes to create a culture that specializes in providing top notch customer experiences.
