Episode 13 - Cristian Gonzalez
Always wanting to become an entrepreneur, Cristian saw an opportunity when presented with an alternative to funding a startup, entrepreneurship through acquisition. Today, Cristian is Verbena Capital’s Managing Director and leads the fund’s efforts to find, acquire and operate an already established business.
Prior to Verbena Capital, he spent 13 years in the chemicals and O&G industries where he learned how to lead multi-disciplined and multi-cultural teams. Most of that learning came from managing projects in different countries. He has also been invited to speak at international Think Tanks. Cristian holds an MBA from the University of Bradford and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico.

Joshua Wiley is an army officer, educator, engineer, and outdoors enthusiast. Having attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 2006-2010 as a cadet who was first nominated by Barack Obama, he has since leveraged time in company command, on deployments/rotations to Afghanistan, Romania, and South Korea, and in learning and research at Stanford to hone practical applications of leadership and scholarship to return to West Point. There, he is educating and inspiring the current generation of cadets as an instructor in Environmental Science and Engineering.
Joshua has a passion for teaching and for environmental stewardship and relishes bringing to life issues of food and water scarcity, climate change, and water treatment technologies in vibrant classroom discussions. He is also part of the coaching team for the National Championship-winning Marathon and Orienteering Teams at West Point. As 2020 changed the way many of us meet, collaborate, and learn, Joshua has applied all of his experiences from Harvard CORe to running a dozen marathons and ultramarathons to design remote learning debates and train teams in a socially distant but socially engaged manner.

Sarah Shelden is an entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Positive Vibes Through Music, a startup that is working to create emotion-based music streaming app to assist with stress and anxiety. She was born and raised in Georgia. After studying neuroscience, and wanting to become a doctor for most of her life, Sarah decided to take time off from school and rethink if this is something she truly wanted to do.
By taking a step back, she learned she did not want to pursue medicine, however, she still wanted to help people. This January, her startup will enter an accelerator in the California Bay Area.

Colby DeWeese is a Process Safety Management Engineer of MPLX, a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corporation. Colby received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa and his Master of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Colby primarily works with assets stretching from Corpus Christi to the STACK in Oklahoma and spanning from East Texas to West Texas. Colby received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa and his Master of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
In his free time, Colby has run several ultramarathons including a 100-mile race in Kansas, he’s a 2x Ironman Triathlon finisher (140.6 miles of swimming, biking, and running), and is a Taekwondo Blackbelt. He also owns ChemePerformance, where he applies engineering principles to nutrition which helps his clients visualize and track progress with a no-nonsense approach.

Episode 86 - Blair Glencorse
Blair Glencorse is leading a movement for accountability and integrity around the world through the Accountability Lab. The Lab works in communities to make governments more accountable and to open-up civic space- using the arts, media, culture and technology. Blair and his team have done everything from helping to found the first film school in Liberia to monitoring and improving public services in Pakistan to running a global TV show called Integrity Icon to “name and fame” honest government officials. The Accountability Lab recently won the UN’s International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award. Blair also co-founded the first co-working and innovation space in Liberia and both TEDxMonrovia and TEDxBamako.
Blair is an expert on anti-corruption with the World Economic Forum and OECD, and is a member of the World Bank’s Expert Advisory Council on Citizen Engagement. Blair speaks regularly on issues of governance and anti-corruption; and his work has been published in the New York Times, Washington Post and the Guardian among other outlets. In this episode, Blair talks about learning Urdu, the importance of accountability in policy creation and using fulfillment as a pathway to happiness.

Episode 85 - Irfete Fetahu
Dr. Ira Fetahu received her Ph.D. at the Medical University of Vienna (Austria) as a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher. During this time, she was the recipient of several national and international awards, including fellowships from the European Association for Cancer Research and the Federation of European Biochemical Societies. Ira was a board member of the Young Scientist Association of the Medical University of Vienna. Following her Ph.D. graduation, she started her postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (USA), where she is currently working in uncovering the aberrancies in the epigenomes of Alzheimer’s disease and melanoma.
Ira recently received “Excellence in Innovation” award for her research work on Alzheimer’s disease. She was also a member of the Harvard Medical Postdoc Association. She currently serves as an Ambassador of the European Association for Cancer Research. In this episode, Ira talks about the focus of her research, her early beginning in the sciences and her passion to improve the quality of human life.

Episode 84 - Hirushi Jayasena
Hirushi is a musical artist based in Sri Lanka. Hirushi sang her way up to where she is now, since the age of six. She always loved singing songs deriving from many genres and cultures including English, Sinhalese, and Hindi. She received award nominations for her work and associated video productions at Derana Music Video Awards and Sumathi Awards, which were her prime reinforcements.
Hirushi along with her best friend found the “Stepping Stones” charity group in 2014 in order to initiate projects to support the educational journey of economically deprived children. They conducted various teaching programs, donations, and awareness on the importance of education to alleviate social trauma. In this episode, Hirushi talks about her hybrid singing style, the importance of human element in arts and her initiative around education in Sri Lanka.

Alex Kazberouk is a primary care/internal medicine resident physician at the University of California San Francisco. He is interested in designing new models of primary care for medically and socially complex patients, creating incentives to improve patient care, and improving end of life care. Prior to his graduate education, he was a consultant at McKinsey and Company, working with healthcare clients on topics such as hospital operations and pharmaceutical launches in developing markets.
