(S3) Blue Blood Rebekah Harkness Book Club Part 3: Ch. 11-14 (Main Feed Version) TLGAD
CW: This episode includes a lot of talk of child neglect and abuse as well as suicide, so please take care in listening. We recorded this episode on August 19th, 2022 for our Patreon feed, where we read chapters 11-14 from the Rebekah Harkness biography by Craig Unger, Blue Blood. We’ve recapped our notes and thoughts over on Patreon for the last year. Now, we've edited them down and we'll be releasing each Book Club episode for y'all on the main feed to join us on this rollercoaster journey of a book! **Keep in mind we learned more about all of these people in the book later on, so not everything we say here is with context from later chapters**
After a brief discussion of Taylor Jenkins Reid's underwhelming follow-up to Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Malibu Rising, we go over some pretty intense chapters concerning the Harknesses and Rebekah's treatment of her children and grandchildren. We also discuss the parallels between Edith Harkness and Taylor; And Edith’s psych hospitalization after her suicide attempt at Holiday House… or as she calls it “her Peter Pan episode”… At the end, we discuss a mysterious virtual memorial for Edith Harkness, which you can find here.

(S3) Blue Blood Rebekah Harkness Book Club Part 2: Ch. 6-11 (Main Feed Version) TLGAD
In this episode, chapters we cover in this episode include "Strange Bedfellows" "Sexual Politics" and "The Go-Go Years". We arrive at the infamous story that inspired Taylor's line "And in a feud with her neighbor/She stole his dog and dyed it key lime green." You may know that the dog in question was really a cat, but did you also know that "the neighbor" was actually not a neighbor at all, but Rebekah's psychic and potential lover Eva (we ship)? Bearded pronouns indeed! Get ready for a lot of gender talk!

(S3) Blue Blood Rebekah Harkness Book Club Part 1: Ch. 1-5 (Main Feed Version) TLGAD
We recorded this very first episode of our Blue Blood Book Club on May 14th, 2022 for our Patreon feed, where we have since committed to reading Blue Blood by Craig Unger AKA the very long Rebekah Harkness biography that The Last Great American Dynasty is based off of. Since then, we've read five chapters for each Blue Blood Book Club episode and recapped our notes and thoughts over on Patreon. Now, we've edited them down and we'll be releasing each Book Club episode for y'all on the main feed to join us on this rollercoaster journey of a book! **Keep in mind we learned more about all of these people in the book later on, so not everything we say here is with context from later chapters**
In this episode, we recap the first five chapters including the infamous chapter one "Betty and the Bitch Pack" and chapter five titled "The Golden Cage". Join us as we go back in time to when we recorded this episode nearly a year ago, just before Taylor's NYU commencement and long before Midnights' release, and read about the loudest woman this town has ever seen. THANK YOU for the love and well wishes for Katie

In a packed episode, Katie and Madyson open up with a breaking news report and a hairpin drop written on Taylor's chalkboard during her 1989 era. Katie points out how the parallels of Zelda Fitzgerald's similar battles to Taylor's as a female writer, and their shared ghostwriting experiences. Sticking with the American Lit theme of Taylor's F. Scott Fitzgerald quote, the archers revisit the incredible sapphic poet that inspires Taylor's quill pen, Emily Dickinson. They compare Taylor's writing in the folklore prologue to two poems about secrets by Dickinson and find that they sing about the same skies full of secrets. Finally, they go through *all* of Taylor's lyrics about hiding, sneaking around, secrets, whispering, covering things up, and lying... Which go back to the beginning of her career.

(S3) Episode 1: Queer Sagittarian Freedom in Speak Now, Peace, & Midnight Rain
In their LONG awaited return, The Archers explore one of the most reoccurring themes in Taylor Swift's music: f*ck the institution of marriage. First, they rave about the 2023 Grammy's and Taylor's L Word themed after party at the Chateau. Then, they rediscover and dive deeper into Taylor's passion for freedom and her Sagittarian nature to rebel, progress, and push limits in these three songs. The Archers use this season 3 premiere to celebrate Taylor's boldness for writing Speak Now, the fight or flight response of Sagittarius in Peace, and her perfect capturing of comphet, cis-heteronormativity in Midnight Rain.

Katie and Madyson start off the episode by revisiting their values as Gaylors and as The Archers (this episode was recorded before the release of Lavender Haze & the rest of the track list). Then, they discuss the hairpin drop of the week: niceboyed and the Queer essay that Taylor could be linking herself to. Before getting into their analysis of Taylor’s Track Fives, they quickly share their eagerness for Karma and the rest of the Midnights album. Taylor’s Track Fives include Cold As You, White Horse, Dear John, All Too Well, All You Had To Do Was Stay, Delicate, My Tears Ricochet, Tolerate It, and now You’re On Your Own, Kid… They unpack the invisible thread of themes of anxiety and battles, and ponder what the newest Track Five will be about.

This week, we're sharing a Patreon exclusive episode from June! With the approach of Midnights, we wanted to give Taylor Swift's poetry the recognition it deserves by revisiting poems she wrote as a child: A Monster In My Closet and Lindsey Claire, as well as the three poems she wrote during the reputation era: The Trick To Holding On, Why She Disappeared, and If You're Anything Like Me. Along with doing queer analysis of each poem, we discuss the reincarnation of Emily Dickinson through Taylor and her flower-decorated pages.

The Gaylor Rolling Stone article: https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/gaylor-taylor-swift-gay-rumor-midnights-1234585574/
After an INSANELY EVENTFUL two weeks, Madyson and Katie react to all of the major Taylor news: the VMA’s, Midnights, the Gaylor (and Archers-coded?) Rolling Stone article, the Evelyn Hugo-ness of it all, and manifestations for the Gaylor community. They read the prologue for Midnights and discuss the heartbreaking lines (i.e.: “self made cages”). They reflect on the meaning of Daylight, and the Lover album’s original title track in contrast to Midnights. Finally, they take a look at every lyric of Taylor’s about midnight(s) and nighttime in general, and dream up possibilities for the album.

In The Archers' third song deep-dive episode (following The Archer and New Romantics' Queer analyses), Katie and Madyson read the haunting and cold lyrics to Cowboy Like Me line by line and discuss a mosaic of Queer interpretations of the story. They mention how the lyrics connect to other Queer songs referencing cowboys, and connect the song's first line to Lorde's "Tennis Court". They connect the song to Taylor's themes of bearding and closeting, and prove why the song is one of her most Queer songs in her discography. What is a Sagittarius if not a Cowboy on a horse?

When Taylor wrote Folklore & Evermore she crafted a world where girls fall in love with each other everyday; a world with purple pink skies, salt air, flushed cheeks, the golden sun & sweet tea. In Season 1, Katie and Madyson realized how crucial the folklore and evermore prologues were for their understanding of both albums. So in this episode, they read through the prologues/forewords of each of Taylor’s albums AND included her foreword for Carolina. Breaking down these forewords in retrospect, they notice references to tolerate it, mirrorball, daylight, and many more prolific moments (as per usual). At the end of the episode, they discuss their favorite lyrics from Carolina.

Katie & Madyson deep dive into the rabbit hole that is Taylor Swift's debut, particularly five of her biggest hits from her self-titled album. They find bait-and-switches, bearded pronouns, storytelling that mirrors folklore, religious guilt, and sapphic themes. Listen to them discover the demo lyrics for Picture To Burn and Teardrops On My Guitar, and find out that Taylor was inspired by lesbian singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge. Along with queer lyrical analysis, the archers decode cryptic lyrics that listeners were puzzled by. What's more queer than windows, wrecking plans, rhinestones, mental illness, and honey?

Madyson and Katie are joined by Renaissance and Sunny from The Lavender Menace Podcast, two fellow gaylor podcasters who also have a lot to say about one of Taylor Swift's most underrated albums: Reputation. Each of them do a lyrical deep dive into a song from reputation: Sunny proves why "Dress" is sapphic text, Madyson compares "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" to Taylor's themes of secrecy, Renaissance questions why Taylor doesn't see her boyfriend in "Gorgeous, and Katie's virgo moon gives a critical reading of "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things". The four gaylors share their journeys of being queer Taylor Swift fans and reflect on both sides of the Kanye fued in an attempt to contextualize TIWWCHNT, and end up theorizing that it could be about someone else.

Since this was originally a Patreon exclusive episode, we edited out all of the juicy gossip to share our thoughts on The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo with our main feed listeners (check out our Patreon to hear the full 2 hour episode!). In this episode, we go through the book and point out quotes that eerily resemble Taylor Swift and/or her public persona. We also discuss how Evelyn and Celia's relationships to the male gaze, and the expectations of women in Hollywood, were their ultimate demise. Listen to us unpack PR relationships, homophobia in Hollywood, relationship anarchy, compulsory heterosexuality, and the possibility that Taylor Swift herself had a hand in the writing of this book.
Disclaimer: Any talk of Taylor Jenkins Reid is never intended to discredit her work or her writing! We just think it's fun to theorize that Taylor could have contributed to ghost-writing the book.

Katie and Madyson pick apart New Romantics from 1989 with a queer fine-toothed comb, as this is the first Taylor Swift song to directly reference Stonewall (yes, there's more than one). Madyson shares where the term "new romantics" originated from and Katie theorizes about Taylor's ongoing train metaphor. They disprove Genius' lyrics interpretation of the song as "satire", explaining how Taylor is actually celebrating the danger of being young and discovering who you love. While decoding the metaphor of Taylor's "castle", they connect the song to other songs like Holy Ground, Call It What You Want, Willow, and Champagne Problems. Somewhere in the episode, they also outline what a Gaylor nation would look like: a land of lawless heartbreak (basically NYC).

In the second part of The Archers’ Evermore queer analysis, Katie and Madyson continue to explore the queer invisible string that connects happiness (0:00), dorothea (12:23), coney island (28:27), ivy (38:15), cowboy like me (50:15), long story short (1:03:51), marjorie (1:08:56), closure (1:12:38), evermore (1:18:07), right where you left me (1:27:14), and it’s time to go (1:37:16). They explain how dorothea connects to the folklore love triangle, and their theory that dorothea and augustine skipped prom together. Madyson connects coney island to All Too Well (10 minute version); Katie explains why hoax and right where you left me are basically the same song. And of course, the significance of invisible string and cowboy like me both being track 11.

Part I explores: willow (21:03), champagne problems (36:06), gold rush (52:04), 'tis the damn season (1:04:07), tolerate it (1:16:00), and no body no crime (1:29:44). Katie names champagne problems a Bell Jar song; Madyson explains why it (kind of) connects to Ed Sheeran and Vance Joy. They describe how the cycles of grief run through the album like a thread, and Katie explains the plot line of no body no crime to Madyson...concluding that Taylor should end up with the mistress.

As we approach the two year anniversary of the release of Taylor Swift's documentary, "Miss Americana", Katie and Madyson asked Queer Film, Television, and Media Scholar Sean Donovan to share his analysis after watching it for the first time. Firstly, Katie reveals that Shakira is a lesbian. Sean offers a less biased perspective on the film's themes of isolation and its unfinished nature. They discuss the irony of Taylor craving privacy while being on camera, and how the film contradicts itself more than once. Katie and Madyson sprinkle in some queer analysis of the song Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince.

Katie and Madyson share their queer analyses on the songs Cardigan, August, and Betty, the love triangle of fictional/non-fictional characters on the album Folklore. They dissect all the ways that these stories might connect to Taylor Swift's personal life, and reflect on the queer innocence invoked in these songs. Referencing Taylor's 'hetsplanations' from her Folklore Long Pond Studio Sessions, they theorize how it may have been influenced by PR. Then, Madyson gives Katie a rundown on 'Grammygate', a term coined by Gaylors who are suspicious of William Bowery's identity. Trying to see the situation from every angle, they summarize their personal feelings towards Grammygate and why it was so impactful for Gaylors, specifically.

After the whirlwind release of Red (Taylor's Version), Katie & Madyson unpack the deeper meaning of the All Too Well short film, the now infamous rhyme scheme of The Very First Night, the extremely gay music video for I Bet You Think About Me, and the astrology of the Red re-release. They share their personal thoughts on the newly released vault tracks, dissect a couple of the disturbing, heteronormative theories that Swifties have come up with and explain how these theories are colored by the patriarchy.
