12 Hour Walk With Craig & Em
In this episode, Craig and I debrief our 12-hour walk.
Interestingly, apart from a few similarities, we both had a completely different experience of the same task. It was awesome on so many levels, but the debrief and download we did here has only been the beginning.
It seems the 12-hour walk is not just about your time during the walk, but also the time after. In the days following, we've continued to process what we learnt, observed and thought about, and clarified things on a deeper level, making the walk even more valuable.
We are going to run the 12-hour walk at BASE 3, with a prep and debrief phase attached to it. The walk is scheduled for the 28th of Jan, with a prep meeting this weekend, the 14th. If you'd like to get involved, or if you want more info, contact emily@base3.ae

B3 POD EP 122 : Losing 80kg with Badr Fikree
Welcome back to the base 3 podcast.
For episode 122, I was joined by an old friend, Badr Fikree.
So Badr has lost a bit of weight, and was kind enough to come on the podcast and share his journey with us.
Badr and I go way back, I already knew of this story, but I’m not guna lie, hearing it in detail was inspiring as fuck.
As I said Me and Badr go way back, we’ve have had our fair share of adventures, some of which I’m surprised didn’t make it into the episode, mostly the Burger King drive threw and spinnies cheese puff stories.
Badr actually played a huge part of my very short MMA career, he even managed to get me sponsored for a few fights, and let me use him as a grappling partner.
In this episode Badr shares what he has learned on his journey from over 160kg, to under 80kg.
Badr’s motivation for losing weight was largely due to health reasons and a desire to improve his appearance. But as he explains in the episode, he soon realized the massive emotional and psychological benefits to becoming healthier.
With some sound guidance and support, Badr went from being told he’ll need dialysis just to stay alive, to running a damn marathon.
We discussed what he learnt, why he did it, how he did it, what he actually did, some of his training & nutrition protocols and most importantly his mindset through the mission.
Badr, thank you for sharing your story, coming on and being vulnerable, being a good dude, and for the coffee.
Enjoy episode 122 of the base 3 podcast, with Badr Fikree.

In this episode we broke down the importance of feeling the muscle, and using that as a reference point when trying to use it in a movement.
Think about the way you rglute feels when doing a glute bridge, you want a si milar feeling when your doing a deadlift. Asia breaks this down, and explains how even the most complex movements can be broken down into simpler feelings.
Hope you enjoyed this episode as much as I enjoye dteh conversation, thank you Asia.

B3 POD EP 114 : Meditation & mindfullness w/ Matt Marney
Not only is Matt a great block, but he’s also an absolute force when it comes to the art of training the mind. Matt went in deep on the subject of meditation and answered all of the questions I had around mindfulness and mediation (VERY well).
Matt broke down what it means to practice meditation and helped me understand how it is not much different from training your muscles in the gym.
We then discussed a lot of the science, and how meditation works as well as the benefits of the practice, including how the psychological benefits of meditation and being mindful can have a drastic impact on your physiology.
The concept of equanimity is something that I’ve heard a lot when going in search of a better understanding of meditation, Matt really clearly helped me understand what this meant, and why this is one of the essential foundations of meditation.
Meditation can be a daunting practice to start, but Matt shared some really simple ways you can get started, and really broke down a lot of the almost intimidating walls people commonly face when starting out.
This was a fantastic episode, that I learned so much from, and thoroughly enjoyed.

B3 pod ep 86 : Choose The Hard Option
We're constantly presented with oppotunities to challenge ourselves, in work, in our relationships, in life.
Head Honcho uses training as an example to outline what it means to choose the hard option.
It's easy to choose the comfortable option, the option that allows us an easy pass. By choosing this option, we passing up on a chance to challenge ourselves, and in turn an opportunity to grow.
Choose the option that scares you, seek discomfort, choose the options that challenges you.
Enjoy!

B3 pod ep 84 : Sacrifice, Progress and Longevity with Eik Gylfadottir
Had a great chat with CrossFit games athlete and Icelandic badass Eik Gylfadottir
Eik is a 3x CrossFit Games athlete, so knows a thing or three about working out.
Eik is also a physio and personal trainer and shared some really interesting points on training for longevity and how to ensure your making progress with your training. Not surprisingly a lot of what Eik had to offer was out of the gym work. Making very good points that you're only going to be able to make as much progress as your recovery and lifestyle will allow, and used a really clear cup analogy to explain the importance of recovery in training.
It's always great to speak to really high performers and get some insight into how they operate, and Eik has proved herself amongst the fittest athletes in the world, I really REALLY enjoyed this conversation but I'm a geek for CrossFit.
Thank you Eik for sharing some of your story and knowledge, please, go and enjoy and have an awesome day.
B3 pod ep 83 : Progress Not PRs
All aboard, next stop PR City! Or is it?
How many times have you been pumped to hit a PR on a lift, or a run, or a workout, and then not come close to that number for months?
Then been like, what the hell, I got stronger / fitter didn't I?
That's the problem with hitting a PR, it isn't necessarily indicative of progress in your training, you could have just been having a good day.
There is a difference between striving to progress in the gym, trying to get stronger or fitter, and chasing a PR.
Don't obsess over the number, it doesn't define you, it simply tells you if you're having a good day or not.
Progress is feeling better, moving better, understanding movement, being happy with your training. Chase progress, not PRs.
B3 POD ep 82 : Body image, building a hedge, attitude and mastering the basics
This week on the B3POD the ladies hijacked the show and shared their insights into body image, building a hedge, attitude in the gym, and mastering the basics.
Asia and Em took the reigns for EP 82, and tackled some subjects that aren’t always spoken about particularly amongst the female population.
The girls discuss what body image actually is and where it stems from, and address how having a better grasp of how you feel and if you’re happy being much more accurate indicator of your health versus how you look or what you weigh, and that you need to remember to appreciate your body for what it can do.
They discussed the concept of building a hedge of good health, stacking the odds in your favor by looking after your health.
We all have stories we tell our self, we can’t do this, we’re not good at that, and a lot of the time that is in your head, the girls break down ways around getting out of your head and how you are not always what you think you are.
And wrapped up the show with a reminder that you’re never too good to work the basics.
Have a listen, let us know what you think, thank you for sharing ladies.
B3 pod ep 81 : It Could Always Be Worse
Solo episode with BASE 3 Head Honcho.
Short episode this week, where Craig talks through a lesson he learned recently when his father was diagnosed with cancer.
The whole world has been hit hard with the whole covid lockdown situation, people have lost loved ones, lost work, been separated from families, it has been brutal.
Two things Honcho has taken from this whole situation...
1. It could always be worse.
2. Be deeply grateful, and appreciate what matters most to you.
