c & A Podcast

By Aubrie Howell and Kathleen Rawlinson

Two unlikely friends came together and found that even though they have polar opposite belief systems they actually like each other. The former Christian, Aubrie asked Kathleen, a known atheist to join her in a fun podcast idea. Through the years of producing content, they've found their groove with sharing stories, having authors on, and exploring different belief systems together. There is a fun aspect with the Morning Shows that shares our lives and in season 2 we added Mormon topics because Kathleen grew up Mormon and she tells us everything we wanted to know and didn't know we needed.

Exploring God: Judaism

Exploring God: Judaism

Have you ever wanted to know more about the Jewish culture and what is Judaism? Aubrie and Kathleen sit down with Rabbi Jasper and have a very relaxed conversation about the similarities and differences of Christianity and Judaism. We get to touch on what Judaism says about LGBTQ+ and how they combat antisemitism.

This is a great episode that we enjoyed getting to create for our listeners. We can't thank Rabbi Jasper and Temple Israel in Tulsa, Oklahoma enough for allowing us to record this episode and opening their doors for us to experience Sabath with them.

This recording was recorded before the bombings of Israel that happened in late 2023.

Morning Show 43: Stoned Waiters, Jehovah Witness Funeral, and Communion without Christ

This episode is jam packed with so many things we couldn't put it all in the title. Kathleen's wild experience at a pizza place where everyone was high as a kite is one we laughed way too hard at. Aubrie has an interesting interaction at a Jehovah Witness funeral with some of the church goers as well as having a run in with some past church friends at a kid's birthday party. She also took her first non-evangelical communion. We also talk about the tough decision Aubrie and her husband had to make when they walked away from sponsoring kids in a Christian mission project. We end the episode with a blooper of Kathleen's rant on Tom Cruise. Never ever mention his name around her.

Defying Dogma: Unpacking Atheist Marginalization in the US

Our guest, Professor Kristina Lee, leads an open dialog on the marginalization of atheists in the US, along with discussing the term "theistnormativity" that she coined, and its significance. Aubrie, who leans more spiritually/Christian found the conversation intriguing and Kathleen, as the atheist, had amazing questions. Please note, Dr. Lee is expressing her own professional opinion, not those of USD or the South Dakota Board of Regents Want some awesome TC&TA merch? Morning Show 34: Endowment Ceremonies and Christian Women's Conferences

Ever wonder what goes on at the temple? There is a thing called an Endowment Ceremony that Kathleen walks us through the different concepts of what that means. Before we dive into that fun we hear from Aubrie about the women's conference she attended and how that went. Kathleen had some feelings about how that works and we ended up putting a whole 10 minutes of that at the end of the episode for those of you that want to hear it. It's a literal riot, we talk about Stacy Eldridge's Captivating Core retreat, being romanced by God, and going on a date with God. The whole time Kathleen is expressing her feelings about it, and we found ourselves laughing way too hard. Enjoy

Seth freaking Andrews! We get the honor talk with Seth about the title of his latest book, Christianity Made Me Talk Like an Idiot, as well as how hesitant Aubrie was to have him on the show. There was a rough first impression/conflict between Aubrie and Seth. Hear how it went down and how Seth reacts. We want to thank Seth Andrews for taking time to come to our studio and spend time with us to create this really wonderful episode. Seth Andrews is a former evangelical and Christian broadcaster who now hosts The Thinking Atheist…one of the most popular podcasts and online atheist communities in the world. The Thinking Atheist is not a person. It is an icon encouraging all to reject faith and pursue reason and evidence.

Seth has authored five books, including his latest offering, “Christianity Made Me Talk Like an Idiot.” He also hosts a second podcast, "True Stories with Seth Andrews."

With a mix of humor and heart, Seth Andrews has spoken for audiences large and small in the U.S, Canada, Europe, and Australia about his former faith, the promotion of science and skepticism, the importance of Humanism in this often crazy world, and why we should all pursue a personal relationship with reality.

Morning Show 33: Mormon Tithe and Breaking Mormon News (it's not good news)

Morning Show 33: Mormon Tithe and Breaking Mormon News (it's not good news)

Ok, you know when you hear about something and the person who is telling it is trustworthy and wouldn't lie about what they are talking about but the thing they are talking about is so wacky you have to pull in another source who knows just as much about it to confirm the insanity you just heard? That is what this episode is!

Kathleen's husband sits in the room with us to help give insight to the topic of Mormon tithing and the breaking headline. You don't get to hear his voice but he's like an advisor throughout the episode. It's super interesting for those of us that don't know much about Mormonism to hear how the LDS do tithing and how they have handled the tithing.

We hope you find today's episode informative. If you are part of the LDS and find yourself defensive when people talk against the Mormon Church then we encourage you to listen but if that's too much for you feel free to check out our other episodes. We mean well and don't want to cause harsh feelings to be stirred up.

Next week we will be posting another Book Club with the words largest Atheist Podcast host, Seth Andrews. He was an absolute joy to have on the show and we are so excited to finally drop the episode.

Book Club: Unbelieve

Book Club: Unbelieve

Welcome to the second episode in our Book Club series! A few months ago, we sat down with Marla Taviano, the author of a wonderful book of poetry called Unbelieve. We learn about her upbringing as an evangelical Christian, her deconversion process, and what she believes now, all through the lense of a series of incredibly touching and sometimes hilarious poems.  Marla Taviano is into books, love, justice, globes, anti-racism, blue, gray, rainbows, and poems. She reads and writes for a living, wears her heart on her t-shirts, and is on a mission/quest/journey to live wholefarted (not a typo). She's the author of unbelieve: poems on the journey to becoming a heretic and jaded: a poetic reckoning with white evangelical christian indoctrination, and lives in South Carolina with her four freaking awesome kids. Find out more at marlataviano.com. To purchase Unbelieve, along with the next book in Marla's series, visit her on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marla-Taviano/author/B001IQX7OG?ref=ap_rdr&store_ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true

Morning Show 32: Mormon Afterlife, Halftime show, and how we deal with death differently

Morning Show 32: Mormon Afterlife, Halftime show, and how we deal with death differently

This episode, as Kathleen points out, is a little unhinged.  We start with how fun it was to find out Rihanna is pregnant via the halftime show. Then, Aubrie brings up a topic that is giving her anxiety and she wonders if Kathleen ever finds herself feeling similar or if she deals with things differently. Finally, we go into the rabbit hole of how Mormons view afterlife. It's full of information and opinions from an ex-Mormon so if you find yourself particularly sensitive to hearing potentially negative things pointed towards the Mormon belief system then we advise you to skip the topic. We will be going into Book Club: Unbelieve by Marla Taviono so if you want to read the book of poems in preparation of next week's episode you can find it on Amazon or you can get a signed copy from Marla herself, just look her up on Facebook and shoot her a message.
