Battling the Worst, Awakening the New
Self-Care Down There
The Healing Brown Girl
the art of surviving cancer, not once but twice
Sheer resilience is what comes to mind when I think of the amount of struggles she went through one after the other. Her energy and her inner strength shone through every part of her when i spoke to her. It blew my mind that after going through all that she did, how happy she was in the way she showed up.
Despite the storm she went through, she stands tall and proud and owns her story. You've got to tune in!
she lost herself and didn't even know it!
Join us as I chat with Surabhi, my twin (j/k), over a cup of tea. Surabhi shares her story with us on identity loss as a teenage immigrant and how she navigated her way through these years. She talks about the pressure to 'fit in' and living two completely different lives, all while trying to figure out who you really are.
Surabhi and I share so much in common that even after the recording we talked for hours. So I basically call her my twin!
Be that fly on the wall today, grab a nice cup of tea and hit play!

When you marry someone at will, you step into a life full of aspirations, dreams and desires. But what happens when that marriage slowly starts becoming toxic and abusive? How do you even recognize the signs when you may be in denial? How do you seek help? The thought of getting a divorce and moving forward in life as a single mom is one that is daunting and stigmatized in the community. How do you move past that and see light at the end of the tunnel?
Today I chat with Taneet Kaur, who is a writer and a single mom of two girls, as she tells her story of how she broke the cycle for her daughters.

what's up with the name change? Why not, mamas high on chai?
you are mom, a daughter, a wife, a sister, an artist, a professional… there are so many hats that we wear everyday. then you add culture to mix and life gets even more complicated.
how do you find yourself in the chaos? what is it that makes you… you?
do you sometimes get caught in the viscous circle of keeping up with the joneses. aka. instagram.
you know we look at others and think that they have it all figured out. but in reality no one has. we are all in the process of figuring it out. and that’s whats called life. isn’t it?
so, if this is something you can relate to… you are in the right place my friend.

Arjun: In Search For Life - Part II
a mother's womb
i am a mother’s womb
empty and abandoned
all i want
is to be with my baby
i often dream that he is inside of me
cuddled and wrapped in my blanket
i fear that i will be forgotten by mother
as i am already forgotten
by the life i once created
mother’s heart keeps me up at night
when it beats
it reminds me of him
the one i sheltered for nine months
it was a long journey to conception
and i couldn’t bring him into this world
the way i had hoped
keep me in the sunlight so i can soak in the rays
and take care of me
i am here to nurture and protect mother too
remember me for i gave life to the two

How Wealthy Are You?
be considered to be one who has accumulated yet another form of riches. The crowd - our tribe called Society- has taught us that economic wealth is the only type of wealth we should chase. Not true" - Robin Sharma from the book 'Daily Inspiration - from The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' @robinsharma
Today's post was inspired by this quote from a book I read daily and introspect.
So, How wealthy are you?
You Just Need To Try Harder - Anonymously Truly
How does one navigate through the complexities of culture intertwined with the challenges of infertility. An anonymous story takes us through the journey of a couple who discover their infertility and the barriers they face in the name of misogyny and gender biases. Y'all choosing science is not an option for some but a must. Nevertheless, it sucks every ounce of your mental, physical, and emotional energy out of you. Can you imagine adding a cultural layer to all of this? oh...the things they hear from their families and the society!

Well-Behaved Indian Women (ft. Saumya Dave)
well-behaved indian women, a debut novel by Saumya Dave, is a fictional tale of mother-daughter relationships across three generations. It is a one of a kind story that beautifully portrays the complexities and intricacies of womanhood and motherhood in the Indian culture. Since its release in July 2020, the book has been flying off the shelves and has had remarkable reviews. We meet with Saumya for some chai and learn more about her journey as an author in creating this contemporary piece of art. Saumya talks about how each of the main characters came to life through her writing process and how some parts of the characters that she explored in her book may have come from her own personal experiences. We delve into what it really takes to become an author, who is a woman of colour, in today's modern world. Connect with us on Instagram @mamashighonchai and @saumyajdave

A Letter Unwritten
bottled up somewhere deep inside. ⠀
Emotions come to surface sometimes. ⠀
They hide back in fear. ⠀
In fear of showing too much love. ⠀
In fear of being judged.⠀
In fear of tapping into the real self.⠀
In fear of the unknown. .⠀
⠀
Writing this letter was the most difficult thing to do. This is the first time in my life, I have put my heart out on the table - for my mother.⠀
.⠀
This episode stemmed from @diatribepodcast Mother's day special where I saw bits of my relationship with my mother in every single story. ⠀
I hope this letter inspires you to share your thoughts and your love with your mother.

Everyday is mother's day but today is special. Happy Mother's Day mamas. .⠀

Calling All South Asian Mamas
What a time to be launching this podcast!
Hi, I am your host Simi.
.
This totally didn't go as I planned. I have been planning to launch a podcast for months now. I knew WHY I wanted to do this. I wanted to create a support network for South Asian Mamas. I had a vision of what I wanted to talk about and what my show would look like. Things have taken a sharp turn since this global pandemic has creeped up on each one of us and affected our lives in some way or the other.
.
I was going to put this podcast on hold. But then I thought, if there is a time to build a community, a support network for mothers, it is now! Now is when all of us need the most support because things are not normal. We are going through exceptional circumstances that never existed. We are all going through this together. I decided to still launch this podcast as my reason has not changed. We can still support each other in the toughest of times.
.
I am calling all South Asian mamas to contribute to this podcast. Please leave me a voice message on the link below and share your challenges and struggles with this COVID-19 pandemic.
.
We got your back Mamas!
