the art of surviving cancer, not once but twice

the art of surviving cancer, not once but twice

A raw and unfiltered story of Jagbir Kang, a Punjabi woman, who survived cancer, not once but twice. Not only that, prior to being diagnosed with this horrible illness, she had survived marital abuse.
Sheer resilience is what comes to mind when I think of the amount of struggles she went through one after the other. Her energy and her inner strength shone through every part of her when i spoke to her. It blew my mind that after going through all that she did, how happy she was in the way she showed up.
Despite the storm she went through, she stands tall and proud and owns her story. You've got to tune in!

how she broke the cycle

how she broke the cycle

When you marry someone at will, you step into a life full of aspirations, dreams and desires. But what happens when that marriage slowly starts becoming toxic and abusive? How do you even recognize the signs when you may be in denial? How do you seek help? The thought of getting a divorce and moving forward in life as a single mom is one that is daunting and stigmatized in the community. How do you move past that and see light at the end of the tunnel?

Today I chat with Taneet Kaur, who is a writer and a single mom of two girls, as she tells her story of how she broke the cycle for her daughters.

a mother's womb

a mother's womb

i am a mother’s womb

empty and abandoned

all i want

is to be with my baby

i often dream that he is inside of me

cuddled and wrapped in my blanket

i fear that i will be forgotten by mother

as i am already forgotten

by the life i once created

mother’s heart keeps me up at night

when it beats

it reminds me of him

the one i sheltered for nine months

it was a long journey to conception

and i couldn’t bring him into this world

the way i had hoped

keep me in the sunlight so i can soak in the rays

and take care of me

i am here to nurture and protect mother too

remember me for i gave life to the two

How Wealthy Are You?

How Wealthy Are You?

"Remember that there are many forms of wealth, financial wealth being only one of them. One who has rich relationships and a loving community around her is, in my mind, wealthy. One who has a life of excellent health, adventure, excitement and continuous learning has wealth of a different sort. And one who is deeply at peace and aware of the truth must certainly
be considered to be one who has accumulated yet another form of riches. The crowd - our tribe called Society- has taught us that economic wealth is the only type of wealth we should chase. Not true" - Robin Sharma from the book 'Daily Inspiration - from The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' @robinsharma

Today's post was inspired by this quote from a book I read daily and introspect.

So, How wealthy are you?

A Letter Unwritten

A Letter Unwritten

Many thoughts untold, ⠀
bottled up somewhere deep inside. ⠀
Emotions come to surface sometimes. ⠀
They hide back in fear. ⠀
In fear of showing too much love. ⠀
In fear of being judged.⠀
In fear of tapping into the real self.⠀
In fear of the unknown. .⠀

Writing this letter was the most difficult thing to do. This is the first time in my life, I have put my heart out on the table - for my mother.⠀
.⠀
This episode stemmed from @diatribepodcast Mother's day special where I saw bits of my relationship with my mother in every single story. ⠀
I hope this letter inspires you to share your thoughts and your love with your mother.

Everyday is mother's day but today is special. Happy Mother's Day mamas. .⠀

Calling All South Asian Mamas

Calling All South Asian Mamas

What a time to be launching this podcast!

Hi, I am your host Simi.

.

This totally didn't go as I planned. I have been planning to launch a podcast for months now. I knew WHY I wanted to do this. I wanted to create a support network for South Asian Mamas. I had a vision of what I wanted to talk about and what my show would look like. Things have taken a sharp turn since this global pandemic has creeped up on each one of us and affected our lives in some way or the other.

.

I was going to put this podcast on hold. But then I thought, if there is a time to build a community, a support network for mothers, it is now! Now is when all of us need the most support because things are not normal.  We are going through exceptional circumstances that never existed. We are all going through this together. I decided to still launch this podcast as my reason has not changed. We can still support each other in the toughest of times.

.

I am calling all South Asian mamas to contribute to this podcast.  Please leave me a voice message on the link below and share your challenges and struggles with this COVID-19 pandemic.

.

We got your back Mamas!
