Are mixing & production tutorials making music boring?
Bland, homogenised, copycat music does nothing for me. I hear a lot of artists who all sound very similar. Are music production tutorial the problem?
I’m conflicted. I've definitely learned skills from YouTube and have even have made content that you could classify as tutorials, but the idea of someone thinking it's 'the right way' to do something, really isn't what I think.
So I recorded a rant about it on my sofa last night. Here it is! What do you think?? Music: Fill In The Gaps by Champion Fever
Does AI understand the Independent Artist's Struggle?
I asked Google Bard to tell me about the challenges faced by independent solo artists.
In this episode, I show you what it said and break it down a bit further.
What do you think?

Liz Ikamba - Crowdfunding Tales & Tips
Thanks for listening!
In this series of episodes (of which this is the first) I want to discover and share stories from artists who have successfully run crowd-funding campaigns to support the production and release of their music. Hopefully you will find Liz's insight and experience to be valuable. I certainly gained a new perspective on what this involves! https://www.facebook.com/lizikambamusic

EP4 Touring a house & Immersive Zoom gigs with Sam Walker
The Curious Producer podcast - Episode 4 - Sam Walker part one.
Sam is a good pal of mine but he's also a song-writer, multi-instrumentalist musician, performer, session drummer, poet, film-maker, candlestick maker and energy-provider currently based in Ashburton where he's now got a studio and has quickly become part of the creative community in that part of the country.
We could have chatted for hours and there are a lot more things we could have covered, but this is a great meandering conversation that I thoroughly enjoyed. Sure you'll also enjoy it! Recorded in mid June 2020 after some time in lockdown when Sam had recently completed an extensive tour of his new home - one date (the kitchen) featuring yours truly on guitar!
Part two of our conversation happened in mid February 2021 and will be out asap!

EP3 Red Wine, Synths & Stories with Ed Chivers
Recorded AGES ago when I first decided to start chatting to musical people I know to MAYBE do a podcast, Ed Chivers and I chatted for three hours and polished off a good amount of red wine whilst we did!
Ed is a good friend of mine who I first met when our old bands played together (when his band split, our band recruited their keyboard player Johanna, Ed's now wife) and who I remember seeing with AK/DK on maybe their second ever gig.
One half of synth/drums/noise duo AK/DK and drummer/co-producer/mixer in Fujiya & Miyagi, Ed also is an educator, composer, synth-maker and all round legend so it was an obvious choice for someone to ease me into the process of recording a conversation.
Hope you enjoy the chat!

EP2: The sense of Awe & the Instinct to Explore with D AKA Wounded Gods.
This episode was edited down from over two hours of rambling conversation with songwriter, singer and thinker D AKA Damianosis F AKA Wounded Gods.
When we hang out, we always have great chats - often deep and meandering but always an exchange of ponderings that is really fun! Hopefully you'll enjoy the flow.
Wounded Gods music is available on all streaming platforms with a hugely diverse album of songs expected in the not-too-distant future; recorded, produced and mixed by me.
EP1: Posh Chord Aversion & Cooking Analogies with songwriter John Seaton
Episode One of The Curious Producer podcast. For this inaugural episode, I set up a Zoom video call with singer-songwriter John Seaton for whom I've been producing and mixing his new album (first single came out Friday 22nd May 2020). I hope you enjoy our chat and if you do, why not subscribe?
