Episode #52: The Lessons From Journey Into Entrepreneurship with Joel Xu

Episode #52: The Lessons From Journey Into Entrepreneurship with Joel Xu

This episode of the Grow2Gether Podcast is taken from our Redefine Your Twenties series where we're joined by community member and entrepreneur, Joel Xu as we discuss his journey into entrepreneurship and business from a young age and how other young people can use this young age to build something. After coming to Canada as a first-generation immigrant, Joel felt as if he was stepping into a whole new western world and felt slightly disadvantaged due to a language barrier. This was a tough challenge to face, but Joel worked hard to leave this disadvantage behind. After feeling like he was starting as an underdog, he utilised the power of growth and thinking, alongside multiple learning techniques to get to where he is currently. During his school years, Joel knew the entrepreneur life was for him so he assembled a plan on the path of business entrepreneurship which would allow him to learn and progress to redefine his twenties.

Today Joel works as a growth marketer with a background in sales, he also is a fellow podcaster with his podcast Model Millennials which helps young people tap into their true potential. Listen in to discover various new learning techniques, how you can thrive on your own reflection of yourself and most importantly, how we can succeed and grow together.

Some takeaways from this episode:

﹥ Comparing yourself to other people can be dangerous to your own mental health. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors, social media acts to show the highlights of peoples lives. You need to take that time to have that self-awareness, you need to make time to reflect on who you really are.

﹥ We are better when we work and grow together. When we succeed together you are adding value to others too. As Joel explains, ‘you can chase money all your life, but you might never get it. But if you chase adding value to others, money will chase you.’ If you have that mindset of giving to others, without thinking about what you get in return, eventually it’s always going to come back to you: A rising tide raises all ships.

﹥ Have that core belief system in yourself and plan your future. Joel offers many techniques in which you have the power to truly harness your belief system. One key technique he explains is to take the time to create an internal growth plan, this helps you to visualise your goals and can make them seem more achievable.

Episode #51: Taking Advantage of Your Youth with Will Holdren

Episode #51: Taking Advantage of Your Youth with Will Holdren

This episode of the Grow2Gether podcast is taken from our Redefine Your Twenties series where we're joined by motivational author and fellow podcaster, Will Holdren as we discuss believing in yourself and how to take advantage of your age at this time in your life. Wills journey into personal development has progressed him onto a path of achievement through realising he needed to connect with like-minded people and truly believe in himself. Once he had a network and this solid belief, he had the motivation to become an author and build a brand to do what he loves by working for himself.

Today, Will hosts his own podcast, has published his Christian motivational book ‘Becoming The Best’ and has his own personal brand, all by the age of 18. His desire to help others onto this journey can be seen in his course he has created which teaches how to build and monetise a brand. Listen in to discover how he has harnessed his passion and mindset to build something with his youth and not waste it.

Some takeaways from this episode:

﹥ Connecting with like-minded people is key to personal development, the internet is a great resource to create a network. Reach out to people that you want to be like and that are the kind of people that you aim to be, they could help you grow by offering advice.

﹥ Young people need to be able to take chances at this time in their life. It’s a period in life where you have the opportunity to take so many chances and risks, it can have huge impacts on your future. By taking chances and trying new things you can end up discovering more about yourself and how you want to grow.

﹥ Once you have a passion or a ‘why’, you can use that motivation to build something that you believe in. If others around you aren’t supportive of you trying to develop personally and mentally then you really shouldn’t care what they think. As Will says “when you have haters, that means you’re doing something that actually matters in the world so I would take that as a positive. Use it to motivate you”.

Episode #50: How I Became The Driver of my Own Life with Justin Phillips

Episode #50: How I Became The Driver of my Own Life with Justin Phillips

This episode of the Grow2Gether podcast is taken from our Redefine Your Twenties Series where we're joined by an entrepreneur and fellow podcaster, Justin Phillips as we discuss his journey into content creation and entrepreneurship. After having a well-established aspiration for becoming a music teacher, Justin was accepted into college and was on the way to achieve his vocational goal. However, after a realisation that this wasn’t for him, he changed his goal, leading him to a small-town grocery store job and falling into the 9-5 routine. Justin soon realised he had a driving passion for podcasting and content creation, this led to the conception of his podcast, JRP Daily. While working hard to produce a podcast every day for a year, he soon realised how to shed off negativity and people in his network that were unsupportive or bringing him down.

Currently, Justin has expanded from his days of the JRP Daily podcast to follow his calling and found his own business, JRP Creative, which offers services in video/ audio production, graphic design, photography and creative writing. Listen in to discover how Justin got to his current position by putting himself in the driver’s seat of his own life and having that core motivation to redefine his 20’s.

Some takeaways from this episode:

﹥ Don’t feel pressured to have your life figured out by 18, sometimes the best thing to do is let it all fall into place naturally to find your path. Most people when they’re 18 think they have to have their life planned and figured out. You start to realise when you’re older that people who are 40, 50 even 60 don’t have it figured out. As Justin says, you start to find out that adults are just bigger versions of kids, there's nothing magical that really happens somewhere along the line.

﹥ Be in the driver’s seat of your own life. You cannot afford to be negatively influenced by other people in your network who don’t offer genuine support. Negative people can bring you down by trying to take you away from your passions to spend time essentially doing nothing. If you really want to pursue your passion, drop the negative people in your circle that are guiding you in the wrong direction.

﹥ Have trust in yourself. If you pursue your ultimate passion, only you really know if you’re making a mistake. At a certain point, you just kind of have to trust that you're going on the right path. As Justin states, “I believe that everyone knows somewhere inside of them if they're really making mistake or not”.

Episode #049: How to Develop the Leader Within with Lucas Lunzmann

Episode #049: How to Develop the Leader Within with Lucas Lunzmann

This episode of The Grow2Gether Podcast is taken from our Redefine Your 20's series where we're joined by community member and entrepreneur, Lucas Lunzmann as we discuss his journey into entrepreneurship from a young age and how other young people can also accomplish this. After playing sports for years, Lucas picked up a severe back injury meaning he couldn’t play for the remainder of high school. This began to alienate him from his usual crowd and he eventually drifted apart from them. However, once he joined a business organisation at his high school, he began to network with like-minded people. This catapulted him into a much more positive place which resulted in a rejuvenation of his life outlook and the conception of his first company, The Teen Leader.

Today, Lucas’ hard work and dedication are reflected in his regular podcast and position as Nebraska State President of the Future Business Leaders of America. Listen in to discover his perspective on how anyone can become a leader and how young people can enhance their mindset to redefine their 20’s

Some takeaways from this episode:

﹥ Anyone can be a leader, think of It as inspiring others. People make leadership seem complex and difficult when, in reality, it’s not just about running a team and making them commit to what you want them to do. It’s more about enabling them to do what they want to do: Guide them down the greatest path possible. Just because you don’t have that authority title, don’t think you can’t lead, anyone can make an impact!

﹥ Make time to focus on yourself, it’s important. Teens can get caught up in too much, such as sporting activities, extracurriculars, test scores or even the right university to attend. They don’t find the time to focus on themselves and how they can improve. Making the time and developing those personal qualities is key to personal growth.

﹥ For internal progression, a useful habit to get into is constantly learning. No matter your age, this can be extremely beneficial. Constantly learning doesn’t have to mean always reading a book when you have spare time, learning can encapsulate meditation and self-reflection because you are learning about yourself. Podcasts, audiobooks and YouTube videos are also great ways to learn and expand your mind!

Episode #044: My Unconventional Start to Life and How I Changed It with Alex Parker

This episode of the Grow2Gether Podcast is taken from our Redefine Your Twenties series where we're joined by entrepreneur and content creator, Alex Parker who was kicked out of school at 15, had 8 low paid jobs and got fired from 3. After focusing on learning about personal development, meditation, spirituality, and business he is now an SMMA owner and popular content creator on TikTok, Instagram and social platforms.

Some takeaways from this episode:

﹥ Proximity is everything. If you're close to toxic people, you'll absorb it.

﹥ Don't chase the popularity contest, it will damage your mental health if you aren't careful and is the main reason why social media is seen as bad.

Episode #037: What They Don't Teach You In School About Money and How I Had to Learn it the Hard way with Manny Blue

Episode #037: What They Don't Teach You In School About Money and How I Had to Learn it the Hard way with Manny Blue

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by Manny Blue who is a Personal Financial Coach, Philanthropist, Visionary, and Entrepreneur.

Manny Blue got a taste of entrepreneurship at a young age selling his unwanted toys to his friends at school. As a teenager he pursued a career in music during which time he traveled nationally and Internationally on tours and promoting his music. Manny now dedicates his time to helping families understand the importance of financial education and securing their financial future which is something close to his heart, as 5 years ago he nearly "lost it all" and is now passionate about sharing the information he got his hands on and learned with others.

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • Using and building credit is a key part of financial education but most people don't know how to use credit to their advantage and leverage it. Instead, they use credit to buy dumb stuff and splash out on every given sale - like Black Friday.
  • Self-confidence and money are linked and this is why most people find it hard to talk about money because they don't have self-confidence and feel like money defines them.
  • One of the greatest things the next generation can do is to seek education and knowledge outside of the state/traditional education system as there are a lot of things that you can learn like financial education which they don't teach you at school.
  • There's never going to be a "right time" to do something whether that 's to start a new venture, go traveling, or start securing your financial future. Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger and just do it.
  • Plus, much much more!

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • There isn't a right or a wrong path to being an entrepreneur and building a team. Most of entrepreneurship is trying new things and through trial and error finding out what works for you and doubling down on that.
  • It's easier to build a business when you're younger as you don't have as many responsibilities as a house, kids, or any other of the traditional responsibilities that may stop you from building a business so you're able to take more calculated risks.
  • Building a business around the use of a team of VA's is a great way to build a freedom-focused business where you can work anywhere in the world and don't have the overheads/cost of having an office or any other of the costs to having employees.
  • When hiring a team of VAs it's important to bear in mind there are 3 main types of VA's that you can choose from which include the "followers" - there to follow your systems and processes, the "doers" - there to do certain tasks like graphic design etc. and the "experts" who bring their own processes and systems to help you grow your business.

Episode #035: How I Overcome Anorexia and Built More Self Worth with Presence Tse

Episode #035: How I Overcome Anorexia and Built More Self Worth with Presence Tse

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by Presence Tse, a Student and community member here at Grow2Gether who shares her journey through life so far including her battles with Axorexia, self-worth and overcoming bullying and negativity.

Born and raised in the UK, Presence moved to Hong Kong when she was 9 years old where she faced a complete culture shock especially at School where she was bullied. This caused Presence to go from being a very outgoing person to very introverted, socially anxious, and trying to fit in.

Presence faced Anorexia when she was just 12 years old, due to trying to fit in and developed Alopecia a few years later where she fell into depression for the second time. But, coming across personal development has helped Presence to rewire her mind and change her perspective of life. We dive into this and more during this episode.

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • Sharing your story and being vulnerable is the key to unlocking courage, building community, and connecting with like-minded people who will help you to grow. It will also help others, who can relate to you, to realise they aren't alone and inspire them to keep going.
  • Everything great starts from having a little hope, belief in yourself, and taking action towards where you want to be. ⁣
  • No matter who it is, you can't change someone who isn't willing to change. Even yourself - if you aren't willing to change, nothing will happen.
  • When facing bullies or haters, it's worth remembering that they're not going to be in your life forever. Focus on the long-term and where your heading. Set and focus on your goal.

Dani utilizes resilience and grit to navigate her journey through life to heal from childhood trauma. Through the power of yoga and meditation, mindset, and psychotherapy techniques, she has been able to shift herself from a survivor to a "thriver" and during this episode, we dive into the steps Dani took to do just that and overcome a victim mindset.

  • One of the most important things is to try and catch negative self-talk. Through developing this awareness you're able to notice triggers and reframe your negative self-talk and thoughts to something that'll actually serve you. ⁣
  • Through Yoga and meditation, we're able to put our bodies into a state of calm so we can work on developing our mindsets and do the work needed to overcome the limiting beliefs and things holding us back.
  • Change never comes from a comfortable place, and that's the whole point - to change, evolve, and grow rather than stay the same. Developing your mindset helps you to see this for yourself so you can start to embrace change.

Episode #032: My Journey to Being a Model Millennial and Going Against the Grain with Joel Xu

Episode #032: My Journey to Being a Model Millennial and Going Against the Grain with Joel Xu

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by community member and founder of Model Millennials - Joel Xu as we discuss his journey of being a Model Millennial (as in role model) and why and how he has gone against the grain!

Joel left University when he was 19 years old to become an apprentice for a social entrepreneur.  He wanted to get real experience after discovering that he wasn't learning any practical skills like he thought and wanted to by going to traditional school. Coming from an Asian background, Joel says he felt like he was the black sheep of the family without a degree so worked hard to compensate.

He was fortunate enough to make a six-figure income in digital marketing sales by the time he was 22 years old, and that process introduced him to the digital marketing world which is now his vocation alongside working on his passion project: Model Millennials - a blog and podcast dedicated to helping people in their 20's and early 30's navigate adulthood.

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • If you feel like and be an underdog and still create something pretty amazing. In fact, you can use that of being an underdog to your advantage.
  • The clearer your vision becomes, the more likely you are to stay focused. Don't just say you want to change the world... start with why you want to change the world, then get clear on what that looks like and feels like for you.
  • It's all about building a good foundation so you can ultimately go and do bigger things with your life that are in alignment with your vision. That's what personal growth, self-mastery, and leadership give you and the earlier you start the better!
  • If you were to take someone from the 1900s and put them into the 2000's they wouldn't recognise anything in the world but the one thing they would recognise is the education system which just goes to show how outdated our education system really is. This is because it's built on the Greek model of remembering information instead of a more practical model based on the Hebrew model.

Episode #031: How I Created An Extraordinary Life Without Regret and How You Can Too with Jamil Sayegh

Episode #031: How I Created An Extraordinary Life Without Regret and How You Can Too with Jamil Sayegh

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by Dr. Jamil Sayegh who is an international transformation coach and strategist, integrative naturopathic physician, Master NLP Practitioner, and the author of 20 Steps to Your Next Breakthrough. Jamil works with leaders and high performers from all walks of life including world-champion athletes, best-selling authors, entrepreneurs, business professionals, and more to create an extraordinary life without regret.

Dr. Jamil has a deep passion to end suffering for as many people as possible by reconnecting them to what’s real, and challenging them to live and love fully. He is a true healer at heart who loves to motivate, empower, and inspire others to take responsibility and action in their lives so they can influence more effectively, expand their contribution, embody their greatness, and make this world a better place because they were here. And, in this episode of the podcast, we discuss what all of this means and how to use it to create an extraordinary life!

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • An extraordinary life without regret is what we all deserve and we get to determine what that looks like and means for us.
  • Happiness is never found outside of us. Not in an item, experience, or in money because it's an emotion and an emotion is an inside, out phenomenon.
  • In life, you have two types of people. The ones who rush through life to get to the finish line. And, the ones who love the journey. What we fail to comprehend, is the finish line is death! Love the journey, love the process, and focus on getting better every day.
  • Our career and the work we do is such a big part of our lives that when we live for Friday and hate Monday, we're really only truing living 6 to 8 times per month - the weekend! If this is our life we face a really big challenge, as we're going to face a lot of Mondays in our lives. This is where passion comes in, and actually doing something you're passionate about - even if it means "living within your means" for a period of time.

During this episode, we dive into Erika's self-love and self-worth journey including how she changed career paths - an unpopular decision amongst her friends, family, and co-workers and how finding a mentor and the use of affirmations helped her to overcome limiting beliefs.

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • If you're feeling unfulfilled and lost in life, it's important to do some self-reflection and ask yourself... who are you currently pleasing in your life? If you're currently pleasing everyone else but not yourself - that's something you've got to address.
  • Whatever you choose to do for yourself and your life being able to learn to love yourself and determine your self worth will dramatically change your life for the better.
  • Having accountability and somebody to guide is you especially when pursuing your goals and dreams (whatever they maybe) makes all the difference and this is what finding a mentor gives you.

Episode #028: What You Need To Know About The Brain with Jewel Hohman

Episode #028: What You Need To Know About The Brain with Jewel Hohman

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by Jewel Hohman who is a Mindset Coach who uses brain-based coaching for self-discipline and emotional resiliency instead of avoidance, overwhelm, and self-loathing. During this episode with Jewel, we dive into her personal growth and entrepreneurial journey so far, the challenges she has faced, and what you need to know about the brain.

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • Our brains want to protect us, they want to keep us safe and one of the best analogies is thinking of our brains as cavemen who want to keep safe in their caves. Through developing emotional resiliency, self-awareness, and the right mindset we can start to change this and unlock our personal power.
  • The best way to live life is, to be honest. Honest with yourself, honest with your family, friends, co-workers, and the people in your life. In the long term without being honest, it leads to judgement, resentment, and overall living an unfulfilled life.
  • Understanding is power! From understanding yourself to understanding others it's one of the building blocks to creating anything you wish to create in your life.
  • Finding a system and what works for you is part of the journey. Whether it's a goal-setting system, personal routine or reflection exercise (all of which we discuss in this episode) raising your level of self-awareness to find what works for you propels your growth and you shouldn't judge yourself for not doing something, that everyone else appears to be doing.

Episode #026: The Life of a Polymath with Denis Murphy

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by Denis Murphy who is an author, software engineer, and podcaster from Ireland. Dennis describes himself as a polymath at heart and on his podcast 'The Happy Mindset' shares the knowledge he has obtained and his interests that span across many different fields including linguistics, philosophy, psychology, and software engineering.

For a long time, his experience with the traditional education system had suppressed his natural curiosity and love of learning. It was only in his early 20’s when he stumbled across language hacking and faced some serious mental health issues that he rediscovered what he had lost. In this episode, we discuss all of this and more including what life is like as a polymath!

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • The life of a polymath is to ignite your interest and passions and not be redefined by labels and find ways of merging all that you love together so you're living a truly authentic life.
  • When you go through hard and challenging times there are always lessons to be learned to help you move forward and grow. Whatever challenge you're facing right now keep the faith and find the lessons.
  • Social media in general and particularly podcasting gives you the opportunity to share your story and experiences with like-minded people and people who can relate to your story from all over the world to help build community and know you're not alone.

Episode #025: How Changing My Mindset Changed My Life with Cole Kirkpatrick

Episode #025: How Changing My Mindset Changed My Life with Cole Kirkpatrick

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by Cole Kirkpatrick who is a 23-year-old entrepreneur from Woodstock, GA. Cole is the founder and CEO of Blueland Marketing. Blueland is a full-scale digital marketing agency that helps companies brand, generate sales, and grow brand recognition. Cole is also a much-valued member of the Grow2Gether community and in this episode, we discuss how changing his mindset has changed his life.

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • When pursuing a goal or venture, most people give up after a relativity short period of time comparing to how much time they actually have in the macro. Creating something meaningful takes time, and realising we're all running our own race is key.
  • Money doesn't make people happy, doing the internal work does. Money, however, is an enabler to obtain the things we want in our lives and this isn't a bad thing.
  • The key to growing social media is to use it what it was intended for and that is to be social. Reach out to people, make connections, and be real. It seems like everyone is looking for validation online but when you are social and being real with people social media can be a great place.
  • Connecting with nature is a good way to change your mindset as you're able to reflect, see what really matters, and just be in the present moment. Get outside, take a walk, and connect with nature.

Episode #024: Should You Take The Entrepreneurial Path and What You Need To Know with Mike Ficara

Episode #024: Should You Take The Entrepreneurial Path and What You Need To Know with Mike Ficara

In this episode of the Grow2Gether podcast, we're joined by CEO of The MAGS Group and Business Consultant Mike Ficara. Mike finds great joy in coaching and mentoring high achieving business leaders, entrepreneurs, and corporate executives looking to take their organization to the next level.

Teamwork and self-motivation are something that is important to him and his team at The MAGS Group. Together they have taken several ideas their clients created and turned them into competitive products in their space, along with taking existing businesses and allowing them to see massive growth and stability through a variety of techniques.

During this episode with Mike, we discuss entrepreneurship, side hustles, making money and so much more and ask the question should you take the entrepreneurial path and build a business doing something you love to do.

Some takeaways from this episode:

  • If chasing money is the only or primary factor for starting a business, and you don't generally want to help people the likelihood is you won't get very far. Of course, there is always the exception but for the average entrepreneur leading with a strong why and passion for helping people will get you much further.
  • Ask yourself 'why' do you want the money, the big house, and the fancy car. These are some of the reasons people get into entrepreneurship and chase the next big thing whether that's crypto, blockchain, or network marketing. These material things are just a means to an end and if it's because you want people to like you or get the girls (or guys) then these aren't going to make you happy in the long-term, deeper inner-work is required.
  • Social media and the internet have opened up so much opportunity to build a business, a side hustle, and allowing people to start their entrepreneurial journeys. The mistake many people face though is neglecting their own back yards and leaving so much money on the table in their own communities because they're just focusing on utilising the online world.
  • Making multiple streams of income is a great idea. However, most people are chasing this without having one STRONG income stream that they can build from.
  • Plus, much much more!
