Over-functioning and Over-worked: The Hidden Drivers of Maternal Anxiety and How to Break Free

Over-functioning and Over-worked: The Hidden Drivers of Maternal Anxiety and How to Break Free

Many mothers quietly carry the weight of chronic anxiety, perfectionism, and self-doubt—often misattributing these patterns to personality flaws or failure. In this revealing episode, maternal mental health expert Kate Kripke joins The Light Inside to expose the subconscious and physiological roots of maternal anxiety, uncovering how early emotional conditioning, nervous system dysregulation, and internalized beliefs like “I am not enough” shape modern motherhood.

Together, we explore how these hidden forces contribute to cycles of over-functioning, emotional suppression, and the need for control—all while impacting children through subtle physiological cues and intergenerational stress transmission. Kate outlines a science-backed framework to break free: Curiosity, Compassion, and Choice—tools that empower mothers to move from survival mode to secure, embodied connection.

This conversation is a must-listen for parents, caregivers, and professionals seeking to understand the deeper, trauma-informed roots of maternal stress and how to rewire these unconscious patterns for a more regulated, connected life.

Creative Thinking: How Embracing Dumb Ideas Empowers Adaptive Problem-Solving

Creative Thinking: How Embracing Dumb Ideas Empowers Adaptive Problem-Solving

What if the key to innovation lies in embracing the absurd? In this episode, we sit down with David Carson, creator of Dumbify, to explore how “thinking dumber” can unlock powerful creative breakthroughs. Challenging conventional notions of identity and intelligence, we examine how embracing the fear of looking foolish fosters curiosity, adaptability, and deeper problem-solving skills.

Together, we navigate the societal constraints that suppress unconventional thinking, uncovering how a beginner’s mind and unresolved psychological patterns influence creativity. From Montessori classrooms to cutting-edge tech spaces, we discuss the environments that nurture curiosity, allowing us to accept uncertainty and reframe “I don’t know” as a launchpad for discovery.

Expanding beyond creativity, we explore the role of identity, vulnerability, and discomfort in reshaping how we approach challenges. Like an athlete refining their craft, we discover how stepping into the discomfort of new ideas can transform not just our metacognitive processes, but our sense of self. We also examine the balance between humor and harsh judgment, cooperation and competition—revealing how innovation thrives in the middle ground.

Through David’s insights, we uncover a metacognitive approach to creativity—one that celebrates inquiry, welcomes the unexpected, and redefines intelligence as the courage to process differently.

Tune in and discover how exploring “dumb” ideas might just be the smartest move you can make.

Reframing Pathology: Navigating the Journey of Healing Unresolved Psychological Material

In this episode of The Light Inside, I, Jeffrey Besecker, delve into the intricate relationship between our behaviors, emotional patterns, and the unresolved traumas that shape our lives. We explore the concept of pathology—not as a label of dysfunction, but as a way to better understand how our past experiences influence our present actions and emotional responses.

Joining me is Dr. Fred Moss, a seasoned psychiatrist and holistic transformation coach with over 45 years of experience in mental health. Fred shares his insights on how the stigma surrounding mental health can lead to avoidant behaviors and emotional suppression. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing that we are not defined by our past habits; rather, we have the agency to make adaptive choices in the present.

Throughout our conversation, we discuss the impact of subconscious biases and the introspection illusion, which can distort our self-perception and hinder our emotional well-being. Fred highlights the significance of mindfulness and self-awareness in breaking free from these patterns, allowing us to navigate our emotional landscapes with greater clarity and agency.

We also touch on the role of human connection in healing, asserting that genuine relationships can facilitate profound transformations. By fostering a sense of belonging and understanding, we can overcome feelings of isolation and disconnection.

Key Takeaways:

Empower Your Now: You are not a prisoner of past habits; each moment is an opportunity for change.

Connect to Heal: True healing flourishes within human connection and resonance.

Mindfulness Matters: Practicing present-moment awareness helps break negative cycles.

All Emotions Are Valid: Recognize emotions as integral guides to self-understanding.

Discard Rigid Labels: Labeling behaviors restricts growth; embrace context and intent.

From Trauma to Transformation: Rewriting Our Subconscious Stories

From Trauma to Transformation: Rewriting Our Subconscious Stories

In this episode of The Light Inside, host Jeffrey Besecker delves into the complexities of our inner truths and the stories we tell ourselves and others. He discusses how our mental snapshots may not accurately reflect our true selves and how these distorted narratives can obscure our essence.

The episode explores the transformative journey of unearthing these narratives, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and connection. Listeners will learn about suggestibility, a little-known psychological tactic that can help foster commonality and understanding among individuals.

Our mental snapshots often fail to reflect our true selves, leading to murky and misleading stories about ourselves and others. Today, we explore the transformative journey of unearthing and challenging these narratives, freeing us from constraints that obscure our true essence.

We introduce a little-known psychological tactic called suggestibility, which helps us find commonality and connection with one another. Suggestibility, rooted in behavioral science, cognitive psychology, and social influence research, plays a significant role in shaping individual and group behavior, attitudes, and decision-making.

Our guest, Gareth Gwyn, shares insights on how polarizing social topics trigger our internal world and how inner change can lead to societal reconciliation. Gareth emphasizes the importance of understanding subconscious scripts, which are often shaped by implicit memories and past experiences. These scripts can polarize our perspectives and trigger inherent biases, affecting our relationships on both micro and macro levels.

Navigating Emotional Trauma: Unraveling the Mere Exposure Effect

Navigating Emotional Trauma: Unraveling the Mere Exposure Effect

Exploring the impact of emotional trauma on our decision-making, The Light Inside delves into how buried emotions can lead us astray in life.

The mere exposure effect and subconscious biases play a significant role in shaping our perceptions and emotional responses. As discussed in the podcast episode, the mere exposure effect describes our tendency to develop preferences for things simply because we are familiar with them. This familiarity principle can lead us to favor familiar patterns and misinterpret unrelated events as significant.

Our subconscious biases, influenced by repeated exposure to certain experiences, can skew our perceptions and lead to flawed emotional responses.

For example, if we have repeatedly encountered criticism in the past, our minds may hyper-focus on and react strongly to even the slightest hint of criticism in the present. This hypervigilance is a result of well-worn neural pathways shaped by repeated exposure, making certain triggers feel almost inevitable. Unraveling the connection between cognitive biases and emotional triggers, the episode uncovers the core causes of our unconscious behaviors.

Tune in to discover how to navigate through the subconscious mindfields and address hidden emotional remnants for personal growth and adaptability.

Timestamps:

[00:01:04] The mere exposure effect.

[00:08:23] Parataxic distortions and subconscious biases.

[00:13:44] Unresolved shadow material.

[00:15:30] Offering support during tough times.

To uncover unresolved shadow material and emotional triggers, consider adopting these three empowering habits:

1. Daily Reflection: Dedicate time each day for introspection to recognize patterns in your thoughts and emotions.

  • Use journaling or meditation to explore your feelings and reactions, uncovering underlying triggers and unresolved issues.

2. Emotional Tracking: Keep a log of your emotional responses to various situations.

  • Note instances where you feel intense reactions and examine the context. This practice helps identify recurring themes and unresolved shadow material.

3. Therapeutic Practices: Engage in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy to explore and integrate different parts of your psyche, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge and reframe irrational thoughts. Both practices provide structured approaches to understanding and addressing emotional triggers and shadow material.

These habits, combined with therapeutic practices, can help you gain deeper insights into your subconscious patterns and foster personal growth.

Ready to take the first step on this journey today—your empowered, balanced self is waiting. Reach out! We are here to catch you whenever you feel like you are falling.

To support the summary about the role of subconscious biases, here’s a brief overview of relevant empirical evidence:

  1. Mere Exposure Effect: Research by Robert Zajonc (1968) demonstrated that people develop a preference for stimuli they are repeatedly exposed to, even without conscious awareness.
  2. Confirmation Bias: Studies by Peter Wason (1960) and others show that individuals tend to seek and interpret information in ways that confirm their pre-existing beliefs.
  3. Parataxic Distortion: Research on parataxic distortion by George Kelly (1955) and others indicates that individuals often project past experiences onto current situations, leading to misinterpretations of others' actions based on familiar emotional triggers.
  4. Emotional Regulation and Hyper-Vigilance: Studies on emotional regulation (Gross, 2002) and hyper-vigilance (Mathews & MacLeod, 1985)Show how familiar emotional patterns from past experiences heighten sensitivity to perceived threats, triggering defensive or avoidant behaviors.

From Fight or Flight to Inner Peace: Mastering Emotional Responses

From Fight or Flight to Inner Peace: Mastering Emotional Responses

In this episode of The Light Inside, we delve into the intricate world of emotional triggers and self-regulation. We all experience moments when a seemingly innocuous comment or situation sends us spiraling into an emotional storm. Whether it's a partner's remark or a social media comment, our emotions can distort reality, leading to unnecessary conflict and misunderstanding.

We explore the concept of the autonomic ladder, a metaphorical escalator that represents our emotional states. Our guest, John Eli Gouray, provides insights into how our autonomic nervous system, through a process called neuroception, constantly scans our environment for cues of safety and danger. This system can trigger either a calm, parasympathetic response or an aroused, sympathetic response, often without our conscious awareness.

John explains the three primary states of the autonomic ladder:

1. Dorsal Vagal State: Associated with feelings of shutdown, immobilization, and despair.
2. Sympathetic State: Characterized by activation, anxiety, and a desire for movement or conflict.
3. Ventral Vagal State: The state of safety, social connection, and calm.

Exploring the concept of emotional triggers, this episode delves into how seemingly harmless interactions can escalate into overwhelming emotional storms. From conversations with partners to comments on social media, our reactions can be driven by our emotions, altering our perceptions and leading to unnecessary conflict.

The episode questions why it's challenging to control these reactions and sheds light on the autonomic ladder, illustrating how we can quickly spiral into misunderstandings when triggered emotionally.

The Hidden Influence of the Authority Bias: Navigating the Maze of Expert Influence

The Hidden Influence of the Authority Bias: Navigating the Maze of Expert Influence

Welcome to another enlightening episode of The Light Inside. I'm your host, Jeffrey Besecker. Today, we delve into the intriguing concept of authority bias—our tendency to place undue trust in authority figures and experts, often at the expense of critical thinking and personal judgment.

The Light Inside is a journalistic podcast exploring the journey of everyday people toward beneficial change in their primary subconscious behavioral patterns. These shifts in behavior empower them to live richer, happier, and more fulfilling lives.

We revisit the recurring segment we like to call “Mind Warp” exploring the common cognitive shortcuts and thinking traps that often hinder our best decision-making.

The Appeal to Authority fallacy subtly shapes our choices by leading us to trust expert opinions without critically evaluating their validity, often overriding our own judgment. This cognitive bias can result in poor decision-making, as we defer to authority figures even when their expertise may be irrelevant or flawed.

This episode of The Light Inside explores the balance between healthy skepticism and authoritative feedback in fostering intellectual humility.

We delve into how our tendency to place authority figures on pedestals can lead to confirmation bias and uninformed decision-making. The discussion emphasizes the importance of critically evaluating information while remaining open to learning from credible sources for personal growth and informed decision-making.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling on Belief Perseverance Pt. 2 with Mark Fournier

In this episode of The Light Inside, we delve into the intricate world of belief perseverance and its impact on our adaptability, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Belief perseverance can be likened to painting ourselves into a box, creating a glass barrier that confines our potential and stifles our growth.

We revisit our ongoing series with Limitless Coach Mark Fournier, exploring how deeply ingrained beliefs shape our perception of reality. Mark shares insights on how to break free from these self-imposed confines and step into a world of endless possibilities.

Key topics discussed include:

  • The concept of belief perseverance and its effects on our lives.
  • The metaphor of living inside a glass box filled with sticky notes representing our beliefs and perceptions.
  • The importance of questioning our beliefs to gain a more profound understanding of our personal perceptions and the world around us.

  • The practice of metacognition, or reflecting on our own thought processes, to choose beliefs that best serve us.
  • The seven Ds of willful blindness: denial, distortion, dissociation, dissonance, dilution, delusion, and disillusion.

Mark emphasizes the importance of questioning everything, including our own opinions, to dismantle limiting beliefs and foster a growth mindset. He shares personal anecdotes and practical advice on how to repurpose beliefs and experiences that no longer serve us.

This episode encourages listeners to step out of their glass boxes, embrace new perspectives, and continuously question their beliefs to lead a more fulfilling and enlightened life.

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs: Adaptive Thinking for Personal Growth

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs: Adaptive Thinking for Personal Growth

In this episode of The Light Inside, we dive into the profound influence of belief systems on our self-concept, relationships, and perception of the world. Our beliefs shape our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, creating a framework through which we interpret our experiences and interactions. We explore how subconscious and unconscious patterns impact our belief systems and logical reasoning, introducing the concept of semantic analysis as a dialectic thinking model. This model encourages critical thinking and the integration of diverse viewpoints, fostering a dynamic and evolving understanding of the subject matter.

Beliefs are fundamental in shaping our self-concept, influencing our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. In a podcast episode, Mark Fornier explores how our belief systems act as filters, shaping our perceptions and experiences in various ways. He shares a personal story about his upbringing and how his mother, despite facing challenges, instilled in him the power of the mind through books like Psycho-Cybernetics and Think and Grow Rich. This early exposure to the idea of shaping one's reality from within had a profound impact on Mark's perspective.

By challenging our shared perspectives, Mark and I also parse out the concept of semantic analysis, which involves examining and interpreting the meaning of thoughts, associations, words, and phrases within their context. By considering multiple perspectives and relationships between concepts, semantic analysis encourages critical thinking and the integration of diverse viewpoints. This process enables us to challenge and reshape our adaptive belief systems, leading to a more dynamic and evolving understanding of consciousness and the world around us.

Active Listening and Emotional Intelligence: Keys to Deeper Relationships

Active Listening and Emotional Intelligence: Keys to Deeper Relationships

In this illuminating episode of The Light Inside, we delve into the intricacies of effective communication and the unseen barriers that often hinder our ability to connect meaningfully with others. Our focus is on understanding and overcoming parataxic distortion—a cognitive bias where we replace the intended meaning of someone's words with our own preconceived notions.

We are joined by psychologist and relationship specialist Fred Talisman, who shares his expertise on the subconscious patterns and cognitive biases that can alienate our conscious connections. Fred provides practical strategies to become more aware of our filtering distortions and emphasizes the importance of active listening, empathy, and emotional intelligence in fostering deeper connections.

Key takeaways from this episode include:

Active Listening and Responsive Communication: These are essential for fostering mutual understanding and empathy in relationships. Being truly heard and understood helps us feel emotionally, physiologically, and psychologically safe, allowing us to open up in meaningful ways.
Emotional Regulation: Addressing each other from an emotionally regulated state, rather than reacting from past wounds or traumas, allows for healthier interactions. Developing conscious awareness around emotional triggers and practicing gratitude can help create a regulated space for discussions.
Establishing Core Values and Vision: Having open discussions about non-negotiable needs and the qualities we wish to embody in our relationships is crucial, especially early on. This alignment helps in co-creating a shared vision for the future.

Fred also shares practical tips such as the power of respectful appreciation and gratitude, inner child healing practices like journaling and visualizations, and the importance of creating mutually satisfying agreements in relationships.

Gain insights on navigating the fine line between love and manipulation in narcissistic relationships.

Key Topics of Discussion:

Toxic Behaviors in Narcissistic Relationships

  • Love bombing, gaslighting, and devaluing are toxic behaviors commonly seen in narcissistic relationships.
  • Love bombing involves overwhelming a partner with excessive affection and praise to manipulate and control them.
  • It is crucial to recognize that love bombing is a manipulative tactic, not genuine love.
  • Gaslighting manipulates a partner's perception of reality by denying their experiences, leading to confusion and self-doubt.
  • Devaluing undermines a partner's self-worth through criticism and belittlement, aiming to exert power and control.

We explore why healing from narcissistic relationships involves healthy ego development, rebuilding a sense of self, setting boundaries, and prioritizingconscious-care. Understanding the difference between healthy esteem and narcissism is crucial.

Heroes: A Tribute To Courage

Heroes: A Tribute To Courage

Heroes.
Are they born - or made? They touch our hearts, fill us with admiration, and make us reconsider our world view. As we look at the plethora of superhero movies these days and you can see how much our society values and loves its heroes.

-Just what makes certain people take heroic actions in the face of great danger?

According to the Heroic Imagination Project (HIP), a non-profit organization that focuses on teaching people to become heroes in their everyday lives, heroism involves a behavior or action on behalf of another person or for a moral cause.

While many of us cower to the challenge of fear, heroes, those in the truest sense - rise to serve others. Beyond our conceptualization of superpowers, exceptional talent and true ability -lies something other. Genuine courage in the compassionate discernment of a loving heart. A love that sacrifices all - so that others may themselves rise again, to see another day.
We set aside the coming weekend to honor and thank our veterans, let us be mindful that we should do this every day of the year and not just this one. As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words; but to live by them .
In honor of those whose sacrifices have been many, we take this week to pause … and hold reverence.
As you enjoy the love and leisure of family friends and acquaintances this weekend. May we fondly remember those who gave it all, so that we may continue to see the coming light of a new day.
To our active duty friends, service people and veterans. To all who served, sacrificed and especially to those who gave their lives — their all. A most sincere ‘thank you’ from all of us at The Light Inside Community. Because of you we may each enjoy this time to ourselves- a time of reflection and relaxation. May we always hold you in our hearts, and never forget.

The Transformative Power of Gratitude in Challenging Times

The Transformative Power of Gratitude in Challenging Times

This episode of The Light Inside reflects on the power of gratitude in the face of challenges, such as surviving a devastating tornado. The host, Jeffrey Besecker, expresses deep appreciation for the safety of their community and the support received during the aftermath.

The Light Inside revisits a conversation with author Steven Crane about how gratitude helps us move beyond cynicism. Despite challenges like severe weather and prolonged power outages, the podcast will return with a new episode next week, thanking listeners for their ongoing support and encouraging them to embrace gratitude in their lives.

Building a Solid Sleep Routine for Health and Longevity: ABC’s of Healthy Sleep Pt. 2

Building a Solid Sleep Routine for Health and Longevity: ABC’s of Healthy Sleep Pt. 2

In this episode of The Light Inside, host Jeffrey Besecker delves into the crucial topic of sleep and its impact on our health with neuroscientist and sleep research expert Chelsie Rohrscheib.

They explore the staggering statistics of sleep disorders globally and the significant long-term effects of sleep deprivation on overall well-being and longevity.

Chelsie highlights the importance of building a solid sleep routine focusing on consistency, regularity, quality, and quantity to promote optimal health. Tune in to discover valuable insights on overcoming sleep procrastination and prioritizing quality sleep for a healthier life.

Key Points:

Consistency, regularity, quality, and quantity are essential factors for achieving quality sleep, as discussed in the podcast episode.

1. Consistency: Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule is crucial for regulating the body's internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day helps the body anticipate and prepare for sleep, leading to better overall sleep quality.

2. Regularity: Establishing a regular bedtime routine can signal to the brain that it is time to wind down and prepare for sleep. Engaging in calming activities before bed, such as reading or listening to relaxing music, can help create a sense of routine that promotes better sleep.

3. Quality: Quality of sleep refers to the depth and restfulness of the sleep stages experienced throughout the night. Factors such as reducing exposure to blue light before bed, creating a comfortable sleep environment, and practicing relaxation techniques like meditation or controlled muscle relaxation can contribute to improving sleep quality.

4. Quantity: The recommended amount of sleep for adults is typically 7 to 9 hours per night. Ensuring that you get enough sleep each night is vital for your overall health and well-being. Lack of sleep can lead to a range of health issues, including cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, and mental health disorders.

Synesthesia and Self-Perception: A Colorful Insight

Synesthesia and Self-Perception: A Colorful Insight

n this thought-provoking episode of The Light Inside, we dive deep into the fascinating world of human psychology, ego processes, and synesthesia with our guest, Heather Eck. We begin by drawing parallels between the traits of ravens and the human psyche, discussing how these birds reflect our own intelligence, wisdom, and duality.

As we navigate the complexities of the ego, we consider how it can be both a hindrance and a source of insight, depending on our perspective.

Our conversation then shifts to the mystical and cultural significance of ravens, touching on their roles as messengers, tricksters, and symbols of transformation across various traditions. We explore how these birds embody adaptability and resilience, serving as guardians and guides in both the physical and spiritual realms.

Heather Eck brings a unique perspective to the discussion with her experience of synesthesia, a condition where sensory perceptions overlap, creating a vivid and colorful world that most of us cannot perceive. We delve into the implications of synesthesia on understanding our processes of ego and gaining new insights into our personal perspectives.

We examine the role of art as a therapeutic tool and how it can sometimes serve as a coping mechanism rather than addressing underlying emotional issues.

Unveiling the Subconscious: How Past Lives Shape Our Current Reality

Unveiling the Subconscious: How Past Lives Shape Our Current Reality

Explore the hidden layers of existence in this episode of The Light Inside with host Jeffrey Besecker. We unravel the impact of past lives and parallel experiences on our present reality, challenging the notion of life as linear.

Join guest Alara Sage, a shaman, as she uncovers the subconscious belief structures inherited from our past lives and family dynamics. Discover the multi-dimensionality of life and how these insights shape our growth and transformation.

Embracing the Simultaneity of All Perspectives

In the podcast episode, the conversation delves into the concept of embracing the simultaneity of all perspectives and experiences. The host and guest explore the idea of allowing for the coexistence of seemingly opposing beliefs and emotions, highlighting the importance of being present in the moment and open to diverse viewpoints.

Key Points from the Episode:

  1. Unity Consciousness: The episode emphasizes the idea that all perspectives and experiences can coexist within the framework of unity consciousness. By recognizing the interconnectedness of all things, individuals can embrace the diversity of beliefs and emotions without judgment.
  2. Simultaneous Truths: The conversation touches on the notion that multiple truths can exist simultaneously. It's not about choosing one perspective over another but rather acknowledging the validity of different viewpoints and allowing them to exist harmoniously.
  3. Tension and Relaxation: The episode discusses how tension in the body can hinder one's ability to accept opposing beliefs and emotions. By relaxing into the present moment and releasing tension, individuals can create space for a more expansive and inclusive understanding of reality.
  4. Feminine, Masculine, and Child Energies: The trinity of feminine, masculine, and child energies is explored as a representation of the different aspects of consciousness. Each energy brings a unique perspective and contributes to the overall tapestry of human experience.
  5. Complexity and Simplicity: The episode reflects on the balance between complexity and simplicity in life. While the universe may present itself as radically complex, there is also a vast simplicity that underlies all existence. Embracing both aspects allows for a deeper understanding of the interconnected nature of reality.

Embracing Uncertainty: Overcoming the Subconscious Fear of New Experiences

Embracing Uncertainty: Overcoming the Subconscious Fear of New Experiences

In this thought-provoking episode of The Light Inside, we explore the complexities of neophobia—an unhealthy fear of the unknown—and how it can paralyze us from embracing new experiences and opportunities for growth.

Change-leading catalyst Jamie Meyer joins the conversation to unravel the psychological mechanisms that underpin this irrational fear and how it can hinder our ability to form new routines and perspectives. Throughout our conversation, we examined the processes necessary to embrace new possibilities and open our minds to the richness of our diverse experiences.

Jamie, and I discussed the subconscious bias of the comfort zone, as coined by business theorist Alasdair White, and how it can limit personal growth by keeping us rooted in familiarity. The episode touched on mental heuristics like the status quo bias, which drives our preference for consistency and an adverse fear of risk, and how these subconscious patterns can become liabilities to our well-being.

Jamie Meyer shared her insights on the importance of recognizing and engaging with healthy fear and risk to move beyond reluctance towards new experiences. She emphasized the need to navigate the distress often felt during uncertainty and how her work helps clients through this process.

Tune in to gain insights on transforming unhealthy fear and embracing more diverse pathways to change.

From Inner Voice to Inner Peace: The Power of Psychological Distance in Emotional Regulation

From Inner Voice to Inner Peace: The Power of Psychological Distance in Emotional Regulation

In this enlightening episode of The Light Inside, we unravel the concept of emotional uncoupling and the importance of establishing a healthy psychological distance to better understand and process our emotions. Our guest, Veronica Rottman, founder of Waking Womb, shared her expertise on somatic-based healing and the role of the nervous system in emotional regulation.

We began by discussing the challenges we face when our emotions become entangled with our experiences, leading to a web of complex reactions. Veronica explained the textbook definition of dissociation and its role in emotional regulation, emphasizing the body's inherent capacity for healing and balance.

Throughout the conversation, we explored the idea of neuroception, the body's perception of safety, and how our past experiences can influence our present emotional responses. We highlighted the importance of compassion towards our own dissociative responses, recognizing them as protective mechanisms rather than signs of brokenness. We also touched on the concept of overcoupling, where our nervous system associates certain stimuli with past threats, and how somatic practices can help us untangle these associations.
