The MOBILE MENTOR
By THE MOBILE MENTOR by Alix Blanx

S7: The Downsides Of Empathy (Story time: Family Drama)
Welcome to another episode in season 7 of The Mobile Mentor pod, and an episode on a topic that's SUPER important to me: Empathy. This was brought about by some family friction this recent Christmas (because, duh!).
I chat about said family friction, how it affected me, and what I realised about myself and my defaults as a result of other people's situations and emotions. And tbh, I wasn't totally happy about it. Moving forward, I'm considering how to adapt my empathy. You'll find out why...
Themes in the episode:
-Empathy in relationships of all kinds
-The different types of empathy (there are 3!)
-Why too much empathy isn't a good thing
-Toggling empathy for the right relationships and moments
-Extending empathy to oneself
-Compassion vs. Empathy
-Childhood trauma, coping strategies, and why I am how I am
-People pleasing
-Emotional management

S7: NOT New Year's Resolutions 2025 - An Alternative Approach
Welcome to season 7 of The Mobile Mentor pod!! I thought I'd mark 2025 with a brand-new season. Thank god 2024 is over... It was a tumultuous and very fast-moving year. I am happy to move on to more pleasant, stable, and peaceful pastures.
This episode, I share how I start every new year in a softer, self-compassionate, and less strict way (I am not a fan of the old 'new year's resolutions' lark and its connotations – you'll find out why). I 'theme' every year! We've all gotta find what works for us, right? Have a listen and see what comes up for you with this approach.
Themes in this Ep:
-Words to live by (as opposed to vision boards)
-Living in your heart and body vs. living in your head
-Following your intuition
-Staying flexible as opposed to fixing goals
-Use personal reflections to inform what's ahead
-When to do this exercise
-Knowing and living by your values

S6: Handling Change is Harder in My 30s - A Series of Unfortunate Events *AUDIOVLOG*
I AM BACK after 4 months out! I missed being here, but tbh I just wasn't ready. 2024 may have knocked me a lot harder than ’23 (!!?)–because boy was it full of change and uncertainty–so much so, I took time off podcasting to refocus on getting well and clear. So here's my life update. The theme is: Rejection + Reflection = Redirection.
The end of the year is usually the time for taking stock of impactful events, so here are mine, my self-observations along the way, and what I’m taking into 2025.
Themes in this episode:
-Being laid off work
-When it rains it pours (a series of unfortunate events)
-Having an unexpected healing period and starting again in my early thirties
-Living in alignment with my values
-Life choices... What did this period teach me?
-Knowing yourself, your limits and capacity – and when to ask for help!
-Doing what feels authentic, not doing what you “should” do
-Reframing periods of ‘not achieving’ to something that's kinder to yourself
-Living from a place fear vs. from a place of love
-Taking a new work direction and considering a career change
-Change hits harder the older I get…
-Self-compassion

S6: From Existing to Living–Therapy, Health & The Benefits of Being Alone
Hi Hi! Here's your July episode. This is a VERY personal one...
If you feel a bit lost, are going through change in yourself or are seeking some advice on how to feel better about who you are, this episode is for you.
I've had a decent stint diving into 'Self' lately, relearning who I am now. The end of 2023/first half of 2024 saw me going through a lot of change and uncertainty; in life, moving, relationships, work and visiting back home. I felt overwhelmed and pessimistic. So, after a fair but of personal work, here are my 3 'AHA!" moments that have brought me back to VIBRANCY.
In this episode:
-What being alone has taught me
-The benefits of being alone
-Meeting myself again at 33
-Resurfacing from a low period into optimism
-I started therapy AND coaching...and boy, is it connecting the dots!
-My holistic view on health and self-care
-Acknowledging my boundaries
-A new mantra I now live by (great for any recovering people-pleasers!)
-Shifting my philosophy from thinking ahead (worrying) to being present (feeling)

For anyone who is thinking of moving abroad, wants to understand what you might learn, is curious about Canada, or who has moved abroad and wants to feel a bit seen, this one's for you. It's like a vlog (with no 'v'), plus 4 major learnings.

-What 'diversity' and 'culture' means here
-How I feel NOW and. what's next for the rest of 2024

S6: How to Listen to Your Intuition & TRUST Yourself
Intuition. It is SO important. And the older I get, the more I realise this. In the Western world, we aren't taught how to connect with it aka listen to ourselves. So, when I was younger I kinda went around 'thinking' a lot; doing what 'I should' do and what is 'valuable' (in society's terms). I guess I was ruled by the dominant culture and the 'norm' like many of us. BUT, here's what I have been doing for the last decade to LISTEN TO MY INTUITION, connect to myself, and decide what I want for my life! Happy listening.
In This Episode:
- What is intuition? How to feel it
- How I got better at listening to it, by...
- Spending time alone
- Walking
- Journaling
- Talking out loud to myself
- Acknowledging the importance of sleep
- Gathering 'data'/insights to help my process
- Seeing how I respond to types of news (listen to find out what!)
- Deciphering who NOT to listen to...
I hope you feel like you can align with yourself a lot more after this episode.

S6: AI Could Eradicate This Key Thing That Makes Us Human – From an Optimist
ORIGINAL LINKEDIN ARTICLE: We will lose the imaginative, mindful, beautifully-unpredictable process of creating now AI is here. (From an optimist)
___________
Hi, folks! So glad to be back. This topic's a little novel for me but still relevant in my Mobile Mentor meanderings, nonetheless. If you're a designer, writer, carpenter, photographer, creator of any kind (digital or otherwise), or just HUMAN, listen to this episode!
It's definitely been a ride watching the fuss around AI grow alongside experimenting with it myself. I approach this episode from a social scientist's POV. Think: if someone was to research how our phone's have changed the way we think and do things since their arrival. This episode is my thinking BEFORE human behaviour shifts all over again thanks to AI. Generative AI, anyway...

S5: In a life rut - Happiness starts in our heads - Big 'AHA!' moments
HI HI HI. Welcome back! So I'm just going to say it – I think I'm having another life crisis..? But this time, not quarter-life. I'm 31, feeling in a rut, under a grey cloud, uninspired and less vibrant. Is it my day-to-day, line of work, feeling the shift with peers in different stages, a bigger change in self that needs to be addressed?
With this, I've spent some time solo to listen to my inner voice and uncover what is REALLY stirring. I've also turned to the stories and experiences of others to help find some clarity... Some, in particular, came from this very insightful podcast episode; Mo Gawdat's second conversation with Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO on Happiness. Therefore, this week I unpack those top themes and key 'AHA!' moments. Big thinkers, this episode is for you!! Everyone else – I hope you get your clarity if you're going through anything similar!
In this episode:
- - Living in a state of flow: following intuition and curating life truly FOR YOU
- - How to know when you're not in flow state state...
- - Why time is our only real currency and how to use it...
- - The key to effective dating and relationships
- - Why we're all living under illusions... (FAVE SUBJECT)
- - Knowledge bomb: WHY WE ALL NEED TO EMBRACE THE FEMININE! And no, this is nothing to do with gender...

We've reached the 10th EPISODE of Season 5, homies! Welcome and welcome back to bit of a new episode style...come venture London with me! It's sorta like a diary entry (ike vlogging on Youtube...but audio). I find this type of content comforting when I have free solo time or feel a bit off, so I made some of me own. This week...
-Hungover rants / Why my headspace is in doomsville
-The world is in chaos and I'm feeling it
-What I do when I feel like I'm losing control
-A very special knowledge bomb – it's not factual, but IT IS helpful. In fact, it's helped me through some really tough times! LISTEN.

- Trouble in paradise? Some handy tips on managing tough times and expectations in relationships, whilst honouring personal boundaries and avoiding 'people pleasing' (from experiences in short-term connections)

HERE'S TO THE NEW SEASON OF THE MOBILE MENTOR PODCAST:
It's been a LOOONGGG time – I've been lapping up my return back to London/UK and living as presently as possible in pandemic times. Apologies for the delay in getting back to it (I vouch to be more consistent now that I've figured out a routine).
ALSO, there's a brand-new episode format: every two weeks I'll be sharing a few of the most prevailing, niggling and personal experiences and situations that arise in life, attempting to make sense of them and figure things out in real-time with you. Also, expect the regular Knowledge Bomb section to round off each release; a learning or nugget I've come across that helped me and might help you – a bit like my Guru Moments IGTVs (if you know, you know). S4: On Being Bisexual
**DISCLAIMER: Contains sexual themes. All views are my own :)**
Hiiii! I hope you're staying safe, sane, and well. This episode is about my personal experiences and understanding of, bisexuality. I haven't spoken on this openly before, but after 29 years and further understanding myself in the context of society and the LGBTQ+ community, it was the right time. Listening to other people's stories (on Youtube, podcasts, TV shows & IG) REALLY helped validate my own, so I hope this can do that for you! Also great if you're just a curious cat or working on your allyship. THANKS FOR LISTENING :D

S4: Your AHA! Moment—How Woke Are You?
A quote to frame this episode; ‘Your Brain and Culture Are Aspiring Against You.’ —Thinking Wrong (book). Here I offer a SUPER fun, short, and insightful exercise to help illuminate how you think and what to do with what you learn. You'll be surprised... Nowadays it's crucial for EVERYONE to look inward at how they're programmed and make changes...

S4: Check Your Thinking, Ego & Racial Biases

S4: Being Biracial, Covert Racism & Becoming Anti-Racist
This is a pretty personal episode... I wanted to provide some insight into being a person of colour in the world today. At first, I didn't feel I was 'black enough' to share my experiences with racism, but I'm hoping it can be a space of learning and help those who are unaware of racial biases, injustice or benefit from white privilege, to know what to detect. This is such a heavy time; it's been heartbreaking and exhausting processing events in the news and what's surfaced personally for me—straddling my privilege and being half black. So I wanted to share some of it...
__________
It's not enough to stay silent and 'accept' what is. We have to be actively ANTI-RACIST. And it starts by looking at ourselves and then acting with greater awareness. (It's not just the job of people of colour.) Let's have the hard conversations about race, talk to people who live through it, share what we know and learn, and get used to being uncomfortable. Because it will be. Thanks so much for being here—please share this episode with ANYONE who needs to hear it. BIG love—especially to my BIPOC friends.
Follow me on @a_blanx for resources + personal thoughts. 🙏
__________
Covert racism= not openly acknowledged or displayed, subtle
BIPOC= Black, Indigenous, People of Colour
Biracial= being of two racial groups
Anti-racism= "The active process of identifying and eliminating racism by changing systems, organizational structures, policies and practices and attitudes, so that power is redistributed and shared equitably." - NAC International Perspectives: Women and Global Solidarity

S4: Growing Up Biracial—White Mum, Black Dad - ep9/MM
**NB. I discuss some physical aspects of parenting and punishment, so if this is triggering for you please come back another time :).** Hiiii, ALL! I believe that it's pretty key to learn about each other in order to have richer relationships, be more sensitive to different experiences, and become more inclusive. So, here's a step towards that! 🙏 Due to 234523 days in self-isolation and counting, I've been introspecting A LOT. Part of this has been looking at what I believe in the context of my upbringing; I'm biracial and bicultural growing up with a white, English mum, and a black, African dad in the UK. This is only part of my story, but it has helped me grasp WHO I want (and don't want) to be in the world today. I chat: gender roles, financial responsibilities, cultural traditions, and differing parenting styles (pre-divorce era FYI). THANKS FOR YOUR EARS & TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES!! ------- Message me on IG at @a_blanx! Hi all! Hope you're taking care of yourselves and loved ones in these uncertain times. With more time to slow down and reflect during this unprecedented pandemic, I've been putting my creative energy into a new project, Stories of Isolation. My experience of #selfisolation is different to yours, different to my neighbours, which is different to the family's abroad... So instead of separating us more, these differences could actually bring us closer together (if we share them to educate one another and grow our worldly compassion).
