‘With Love Grief Gifts’ With Child Life Specialist, Nicki Elischer

‘With Love Grief Gifts’ With Child Life Specialist, Nicki Elischer

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Nicki Elischer.

Nicki Elischer is a child life specialist, clinical counsellor, and art therapist in Vancouver BC. When working as a child life specialist at a local pediatric hospital, she supported children and families to cope with hospitalization, illness, grief, and loss.

There she met her colleague Amanada Lascelle, and together they created With Love Grief Gifts, a company that creates therapeutic sympathy gifts for children and teens. It was important to them to address the cultural taboo of talking about death with children, and to point out the importance of acknowledging and caring for children’s grief.

Using their knowledge of child development, grief and loss, each gift they design meets children’s need for information, comfort, and ritual. They hope to change the way we respond to children’s grief by offering information, resources, and a tangible way to support children and youth experiencing grief and loss.

‘Butterflies + Halos’ With Founder, Angila ‘Angie’ Hanson

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Angila ‘Angie’ Hanson. Angie shares her story of immense loss — a journey marked by the deaths of her one-year-old son, Garret, her husband, Jack, her brother, Seth, and her sister-in-law, Brooke.  In her own profound grief, Angie Hanson found solace in a mission to change the narrative around grief, to bring light into the darkest moments, and to offer genuine support to those walking the path of loss. She founded Butterflies + Halos in 2022, a greeting card company that seeks to bridge the gap between sympathy and understanding, between condolence and companionship This greeting card company helps create a space for the griever so they feel less alone and show up intentionally for a friend and also help you as a friend send hope into your grieving friend's heart & home. These cards aren’t here to “fix” the grief, but to show you care and you are sharing in the grief journey with your friend.   Angie also is publishing her first book “Chapters of a Resilient Heart” that will be published in May 2024.  She also co-hosts a podcast “From Loss to Light Podcast” touching on all aspects of losses and how people have found their light.   Learn More Angie: Website: ButterfliesAndHalos.com Instagram: @ButterfliesAndHalos Facebook: Butterflies + Halos Etsy: Butterflies + Halos • https://www.etsy.com/shop/butterfliesandhalos?load_webview=1&bid=qxpAwJoDb4slYBbTtbDzRTS9t9ZR Pre-Order Book: ‘Chapters of a Resilient Heart’ • COMING MAY 2024: https://chaptersofaresilientheart.myshopify.com/ Shop Cards: https://butterfliesandhalos.com/collections/new-releases Podcast: ‘From Loss to Light’ • https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/from-loss-to-light/id1695980324 Learn More About DDJF: Website: DDJF.org Instagram: @DeeDeeJacksonFoundation Facebook: Dee Dee Jackson Foundation LinkedIn: Dee Dee Jackson Foundation X: @DDJFoundation Leave a podcast review: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-power-of-love-show/id1282931846 Spotify Podcasts: https://open.spotify.com/show/6X6zGAPmdReRrlLO0NW4n6?si=koXehESfSrSwA-zWi2vf-w Can’t make the live-stream? ‘Admitting Abuse: You Might Not Get Over It, But You Will Get Through It’ With Author, Crista Polich

‘Admitting Abuse: You Might Not Get Over It, But You Will Get Through It’ With Author, Crista Polich

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Crista Polich.

After living for years in a verbally and physically abusive marriage, Crista summoned up the strength to end that unhealthy relationship. She had just launched their youngest child off to college when she and her husband decided to get divorced. She knew it would be a challenging season, but little did she know what laid ahead.

Only three and a half weeks later, Crista suddenly found herself a widow. Her husband committed suicide…

Crista and her children navigated through their grief together, and with the help of professional therapists.

Because she had been a stay-at-home mom for most of her marriage, she found herself completely unprepared and overwhelmed for what life had now presented her.

However, Crista did not sit idle. She began reclaiming her life one step at a time. She started tackling the tough stuff and now she helps others do the same.

Crista is the author of the captivating memoir, ‘Admitting Abuse: You might not get over it, but you will get through it.’ She is a powerful informational speaker where she engages audiences by sharing her emotional stories with unbridled truth and humor. She recently founded her own consulting business helping people be more prepared in the event of an unexpected tragedy.

In addition, Crista is committed to helping widows and widowers less fortunate than she, which inspired her to start a non-profit ministry called ‘Widows Without’ through the non-profit Bridges US.

Crista is candid, encouraging and blunt about how she turned her tragedy into triumph and now she’s committed to helping others do the same.

As she says, “I’m not bashful about telling people, don’t wait to get your sh*t together!”

‘The Grieving Well’ With Family Bereavement Specialist, Ashley Wolfe

‘The Grieving Well’ With Family Bereavement Specialist, Ashley Wolfe

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Ashley Wolfe!

Since 2007 Ashley has worked in hospitals, hospice and community settings as a Certified Child Life Specialist supporting families journeying through some of life's most significant trials. Specializing in palliative and grief support, Ashley has witnessed the importance of developmentally appropriate education and nurturing emotional expression in helping families navigate death and grief together. After completing her Master's degree, Ashley worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice learning about and supporting families in the comfort of their own home around end of life. In 2021, she became an Advanced Grief Recovery Method Specialist offering this evidence based and action oriented practice both in person and virtually. Ashley has been an adjunct professor of Therapeutic Play at Central Washington University and believes that play, as the language of children, is one of the magic ingredients for having difficult conversations about death and grief. In 2023 Ashley completed her training as a Death Doula and is honored to help families in their preparation of death, the honoring and coordinating of their loved ones wishes and the emotional support of their grief all along the way. Children are often excluded from the conversations and decisions made around the natural experience of death. It is Ashley's hope that with appropriate preparation and emotional support, the entire family can contribute in unique ceremony of their loved ones. Ashley embraces grief as our bodies natural response to change. She believes that we don't need to be cured from grief but rather companioned through the unique and personal journey.
Ashley is also the author of “My Journey With The Wind: A Magical Story of Grief,” which helps children and their caregivers have a common language to talk about and express the feelings of grief. Together, through the included therapeutic activities, the readers are able to reflect on their individual grief experiences and find helpful ways to integrate back into their new reality while maintaining connected bonds with their loved ones.

‘Legacy Letters’ With Author, Kera Sanchez

‘Legacy Letters’ With Author, Kera Sanchez

On this episode of The Power of Love Show, we have a special guest, Kera Sanchez—a Chicago-based High School Spanish teacher, wife, and mother of two. Following the unexpected loss of her mother in Italy at 57, Kera embarked on a grief journey, resulting in the creation of the 'Legacy Letters Guided Journal.' This journal enables individuals to craft handwritten legacies of love, advice, and support, ensuring families globally can navigate unforeseen loss with a lasting legacy. Translated into Spanish, the journal led to the release of Kera’s second published work, ‘No Legacy Lost,' a guided memory and grief journal. Kera, who pokes fun at her grief journey with her Instagram community, plans to launch 'Get Griefy,' a grief magazine in early 2024. Ep. 300! • ‘Camp TLC’ With Founder & Executive Director, Caroline Baumis

Ep. 300! • ‘Camp TLC’ With Founder & Executive Director, Caroline Baumis

As we commemorate a remarkable achievement, the 300th episode of The Power of Love Show, we have the privilege of welcoming a very special guest, Caroline Baumis, who is not only part of DDJF's Board of Directors, but also an integral member of our team! Caroline has over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector with an emphasis on youth and families. Caroline began her career at AmeriCares, where she quickly became the Executive Director of Camp AmeriKids, one of the first camps for children with HIV/AIDS in the tri-state area of NY, NJ, and CT. During her tenure as Executive Director, Caroline participated in several relief missions across the globe, including the Albania Refugee Crisis in 1999. Caroline decided to get her master’s degree in social work from Fordham and went on to work in the field of social work at the Westchester Institute of Human Development. Caroline quickly realized that social work wasn't for her and felt that healing came from alleviating feelings of isolation, and she went on to lead several small grassroots organizations until she founded her own charity….Camp TLC (Together Living a Challenge), a program for families living with a medical or life trauma. Since its inception in 2011, Camp TLC has run over 40 programs in five states, including the challenging region of Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. Recently, Caroline also joined the Alzheimer's Association and serves as Program Manager, where she lends her skills to develop educational programs for Nevada. Caroline joined the Board of DDJF in 2019 because she believes in the healing power of music therapy and is working to help expand our programs in the state of Nevada. ‘Draw Your Feelings’ With Artist, Educator & Author, Rukmini Poddar

‘Draw Your Feelings’ With Artist, Educator & Author, Rukmini Poddar

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Rukmini Poddar.

Emotions add color and depth to our lives and create meaning. Taking the time to sift through our personal emotions can teach us about ourselves and help us process big feelings when they arise. Artist, designer, and educator Rukmini Poddar understands this well and through her artwork she began to realize that “what is most personal is most universal”.

And now, readers can dig deep into their own emotions in a creative way with DRAW YOUR FEELINGS, a mind-opening and beautifully illustrated guide filled with watercolor art and meticulous detail. It is both a beautiful and practical tool for a journey of self-discovery.

From her work as an artist depicting a wide range of emotions, Rukmini has amassed a following of others seeking the same journey. Her growing platform has touched the lives of nearly 100k followers all seeking her online content and also the courses she teaches on drawing emotions, which are extremely successful.

Rukmini's creative passion lies at the intersection of emotional wellness and creative storytelling, which this journal embodies. It gently encourages readers to reflect on themselves and the world around them through lines, shapes, colors, and more. With exercises tailored to
beginners and experts alike (no drawing skills required!) readers will learn basic drawing skills and take them all the way to mapping their emotional landscape and empower them to give visual language to their feelings that were otherwise indescribable with words.

DRAW YOUR FEELINGS will stretch creative muscles you didn't know you had. At the end of the journey, you will transform the way you interact with yourself and the world.

Rukmini is an artist, designer, illustrator and educator. She is also a 100 Day Project artist and author of the book 100 Days of Obscure Emotions.

‘Surviving Siblings’ With Author, Brittany Day

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Brittany Day. Brittany Day is a surviving sibling after the tragic loss of her brother, Eric, during her childhood. Experiencing grief at a young age proved to be confusing with limited resources for support. It wasn't until the death of her twin daughters, Sophie & Ruby, who were stillborn that she started to understand and embrace grief.  Realizing the still-limited resources for siblings who are grieving, she co-wrote a book with her daughter, Eliza, entitled ‘I’m Still a Big Sister’, explaining stillbirth and providing a glimpse at life after. They donate copies of the book as well as sibling bereavement memory boxes to their local hospitals and others by request. On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Charlene Lam.

Charlene Lam is a certified grief coach, curator, speaker, and the founder of The Grief Gallery. She helps grieving people to navigate the practical and emotional aftermath of losing a loved one. And when they’re ready, to transform their pain, loss and grief into something beautiful so they can move forward with living their own fullest lives.

With degrees in mass communication and design, and over a decade of experience as a content strategist for creative brands, she turned her story-finding instincts and narrative crafting skills to grief work after the sudden death of her mother in 2013.

She speaks about the power of art, creativity, storytelling and narrative development for healthy grieving and post-traumatic growth, and shares her accessible and inspiring Curating Grief framework for processing grief with grit and grace.

She helps busy professionals, entrepreneurs and overburdened grieving people to navigate the practical and emotional aftermath of losing a loved one so they can emerge with their health, livelihoods and relationships intact.

As curator of The Grief Gallery, she presents exhibitions and events exploring death and grief with particular focus on the belongings of loved ones lost during international design events and festivals, including NYCxDESIGN, DesignTO (Toronto) and the London Design Festival.

She’s the author of the forthcoming book Curating Grief: A Creative Guide to Choosing What to Keep After a Loved One Dies.

‘Boxed Up Project’ With Founder, Milan Coraggio-Sewell

‘Boxed Up Project’ With Founder, Milan Coraggio-Sewell

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Milan Coraggio-Sewell.

Milan is an 18-year-old recent high school graduate who will be attending UPenn in the fall. Milan is also the founder of ‘Boxed Up Project’ — a youth-led nonprofit organization that creates grief boxes for kids and teens struggling with grief and loss. These boxes are donated to partner organizations and underserved communities throughout Arizona and across the country. Each box contains carefully selected items picked in partnership with accredited grief experts for two separate age groups: 5-12 and 13-17.

Milan launched this organization after struggling with her own unresolved grief due to the loss of her best friend and grandparents at a young age. Milan always wished she had someone to talk to and help her work through her emotions during that difficult time in her life and that wish is what fueled the idea for launching ‘Boxed Up Project’. She wanted to create a space where kids can express their feelings and learn to heal; a space to show them that they are not alone.

‘Finding The Words: Working Through Profound Loss with Hope and Purpose’ With Author, Colin Campbell

‘Finding The Words: Working Through Profound Loss with Hope and Purpose’ With Author, Colin Campbell

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Colin Campbell. Colin Campbell has many roles in life including Husband, Theater Artist, Filmmaker, Author, Teacher, Friend, Brother & Son…but the role he identifies with first and foremost is Dad. So, when his two teenage children, Ruby & Hart, were tragically killed by a drunk driver in 2019, Colin’s life and very identity were shattered and he was left to navigate his overwhelming grief and life without Ruby & Hart. After their deaths, Colin would often hear the phrase that many fellow grievers have encountered after a loss: “There are no words”. Although a very common phrase in the grief world, Colin believes that we MUST give words to our loss. Words to articulate our grief and words to share memories of our lost loved ones. In his own grief journey, Colin has found that voicing his feelings, verbalizing his grief and having his community bear witness to his loss were the keys to him moving towards acceptance of his new reality. In his book, ‘Finding the Words: Working Through Profound Loss With Hope and Purpose’, Colin puts words to the experience of losing his children and outlines concrete actions a person in grief can take to help them in their struggles. At end of each chapter Colin offers not only these concrete actions, but also journal prompts — that act as a resource rather than a mandatory assignment — and mourning rituals to help spark imagination and inspire readers to create rituals to honor their own grief and lost loved ones. Colin will be joining us to share more about his journey and his book which has been described as a “profound, honest, pragmatic & comforting field guide for each of us searching for a way to live with loss. More about Colin: Colin Campbell is a writer and director for theater and film. The short film he wrote and directed with his beautiful and talented wife, ‘Seraglio’, was nominated for an Academy Award. Campbell teaches screenwriting at Chapman University and theater at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MFA from Columbia University. He is currently developing a solo performance piece titled ‘Grief: A One Man Shit-Show’. ‘Hello, I’m Grieving’ With Founder, Dr. Julie Shaw

‘Hello, I’m Grieving’ With Founder, Dr. Julie Shaw

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Dr. Julie Shaw.

Dr. Julie Shaw is an educator, grief wellness advocate and experienced griever committed to building an inclusive community of grievers who are curious, ready to explore and moved to find ways they can integrate grief into their lives and continue to thrive.

After the loss of her sister and journey of infertility, Dr. Shaw became inspired to change the perceptions of grief as sorrowful, isolated, and constant heartache, to one where grievers and others can see this as a human experience. One where there can be passion, enlightenment, growth, and even a vibrant life after loss.

Dr. Shaw has a gift of bringing an authentic and sociable style when educating others through interactive creative and engaging community experiences, online education, and facilitated dialogues. Her work motivates grievers to “say hello to grief” inviting them to acknowledge their own grief while being an active participant in the grieving process.

She is the founder of ‘Hello I‘m Grieving’, a community where grievers can find support and support one another. Through Hello, I’m Grieving, Dr. Shaw creates unique and creative ways to explore grief in community through virtual and in person events. In 2022, Dr. Shaw launched the Hello I’m Grieving Grief Hike event that brings together grievers from diverse backgrounds to explore their own grief wellness through physical activity, guided reflection, and transformational dialogue.

Additionally, Dr. Shaw has her doctorate in Leadership and is the co-founder of Lead Different Consulting where she works with global leaders in diverse industries and facilitates sessions on leadership development, DEI, and grief education. Dr. Shaw has an extensive athletics background as a former professional basketball player, collegiate women’s basketball coach for 15 years helping lead teams to championships and the NCAA Sweet 16, and served as Billie Jean King’s Director of Education.

She has invested her time volunteering with ‘Our House’ working with bereaved children and is also a certified grief educator with David Kessler. Recently, Dr. Shaw was selected to participate in the PAUSE Starlight Business Residency program, led by Alica Forneret geared towards offering support and programming for POC business leaders in the end of life and grief fields.

Dr. Shaw has been sought out to speak on panels with David Kessler and Empathy.com, she has been a guest speaker on several podcasts such as Grief Out Loud hosted by The Dougy Center, and her story will be featured in the upcoming grief documentary Meet Me Where I Am.

‘Good Grief’ With Founders, Melissa Jenski & Kristin Mortensen

‘Good Grief’ With Founders, Melissa Jenski & Kristin Mortensen

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guests, Melissa Jenski & Kristin Mortensen. Melissa Jenski is a design professional with over 10 years of experience in specialty retail and wholesale. While the highlights of her career include overseeing the retail operations at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, designing jewelry for Sundance Catalog and creating the merchandise assortment for a world-class spa, they were merely stepping-stones on her way to realizing her dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. As Co-founder of Good Grief, Melissa is the Chief Inspiration Officer and is in charge of fulfillment and inventory management.  An autoimmune diagnosis in her 20's, followed by infertility and a miscarriage in her 30's inspired Melissa to start ‘Good Grief’. When she’s not busy working, you can find her daydreaming about her next business idea, planning her next big vacation or obsessively Marie Kondo-ing an untouched area of her house. She currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her two favorite people – her husband and daughter. Kristin Mortensen is a marketing professional with over a decade of experience helping other brands tell their story, engage with customers and, above all, make money.  Burnt out from the corporate grind and pandemic fatigue, she wanted something to call her own. In 2021, she joined forces with her sister as the Co-Founder of ‘Good Grief’ and is responsible for the marketing and e-commerce side of the business.   Her love for traveling catapulted her to Europe shortly after graduating from ASU, and she's made the UK her home after being abroad for over 13 years. But it hasn't all been smooth sailing. It's been a whirlwind of divorce and heartbreak, learning to love again, and more recently, the happiest moments as a new mom sprinkled with postpartum depression and anxiety. She lives with long-term partner, Adam, and they recently welcomed a new addition to their family in September 2022. When she's not juggling work and motherhood, you can find her traveling, hiking or most likely a little bit of both. ‘Good Grief’ is an online gifting platform that sells curated care packages for life's twists and turns - loss of a loved one, cancer, mental health, miscarriage and beyond. Filled with equal parts heart and humor, each Good Grief box contains a selection of practical tools for healing and self-care and is packed to perfection with a handwritten card. ‘When Career & Caregiving Collide’ With Jessica C. Guthrie, M.Ed

‘When Career & Caregiving Collide’ With Jessica C. Guthrie, M.Ed

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Jessica C. Guthrie. Jessica is an only child and the full-time caregiver of her mother, Constance Guthrie, who is living with Alzheimer’s Disease. Jessica, a single millennial, started caring for her mother at 26 years old and has navigated the journey alone all the while balancing the building of her career, caring for herself and preserving her mother’s dignity and legacy. For the first four years of this disease Jessica was a long-distance caregiver traveling from her mom in Virginia to her home & job in Dallas, Texas and in 2019 she made the difficult, yet necessary decision to move back home to fully support her mother as she began to decline in her disease. Jessica created “When Career & Caregiving Collide” to openly share the realities of what it meant to be a young person starting in their career all the while being thrust into the responsibility of caring for a parent...and how to balance both. When she started her journey she didn’t see leaders, groups, organizations of people that looked like her nor were they sharing a similar experience so she desired to uplift her story so many others could feel seen and affirmed on this unique journey too. Jessica is now a senior executive non-profit leader and grew her career while caring intensely for her mom. It’s possible to have both a thriving career and thrive as a caregiver. Her mother experienced a significant decline in her disease at the beginning of 2022–no longer ambulatory, fully incontinent, weight loss, diminished speech and unable to feed herself. On May 16, 2022 Jessica enrolled her mother into Home Hospice with the strong belief she would pass within six months or less. Today, May 31, 2023 Jessica’s mother is still living, she has graduated from hospice and is thriving in the current stage she is in. Jessica attributes her mother’s strength and energy to fight to the love and care between the two of them. She intentionally slowed down, got super proximate and present with her mom, and prioritized all the moments. Jessica is grateful for what she calls “magic time” and makes the most of each day! When she’s not at home singing with her mom, meal prepping or transporting her mom using the hoyer lift you can find Jessica at the local YMCA teaching a dance fitness class. ‘Grief is an Origami Swan’ With Filmmaker, Artist & Poet, Michèle Saint-Michel

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Michèle Saint-Michel.

Michèle Saint-Michel is an artist, filmmaker and author. Designed to promote healing, her genre-bending works encourage healthy coping and recovery from difficult experiences.

Often incorporating pressed botanicals, preserved insects, seeds and leaves, her works examine the overlap between the environmental, the cultural, and the emotional, creating a conditional and reactive multi-temporal space where new futures can be imagined. Saint-Michel’s films take influence from poetry filmmakers, experimental filmmakers and free jazz movements.

Her moving image work and poetry films have been official selections by the Prismatic Ground Festival, Manchester International Film Festival, Cadence Poetry Film Festival and many others. Her installation films have been exhibited in galleries and digital arts festivals worldwide.

She is the author of two books, a coloring book and three journals. After the heartfelt reception of ‘Grief is an Origami Swan’, Michèle released the highly experimental poetry collection, ‘Saint Agatha Mother Redeemer’, and the accompanying ‘Saint Agatha Mother Redeemer Coloring Book’. She has also released a set of journals based on the poetry of Walt Whitman.

Saint-Michel's artistic journey has taken her from the rolling hills and river bluffs of Missouri to the bustling streets of London. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Saint-Michel's work is about creating a space where new futures can be imagined. Through her films, installations, and writing, she invites audiences to engage with their emotions and surroundings in a way that fosters healing and growth.

‘Navigating Job Loss & Overcoming Career Grief’ With & Co-Founder of Bear Recruiting, Kevin Kilday

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Kevin Kilday. Kevin is an entrepreneur and Co-Founder of the recruitment firm, Bear Recruiting. Currently, Kevin lives in Delray Beach which is located in south Florida. Outside of running his business, Kevin enjoys all aspects of health and fitness and spending time relaxing at the beach. Kevin grew up in Northern Virginia and after high school, was recruited to play Division 1 basketball at Radford University in Virginia. Ultimately, he made the decision to not play basketball, but instead focus fully on his education. After graduating from Radford University with a degree in Marketing, Kevin began his career in sales. After a couple of years, he got into the medical sales field, where he enjoyed assisting doctors in helping their patients by providing better clinical outcomes. Eventually, he transitioned into a completely different industry to further develop his skillset and knowledge as a sales and business professional. In 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Kevin and a colleague by the name of Keith Lee, decided to partner up and launch their company. Today, Bear Recruiting primarily serves the healthcare industry, by partnering with companies to help them find and hire top medical sales talent of all levels. More recently, Kevin and Bear Recruiting began helping job seekers to market and brand themselves more effectively on LinkedIn, which is the largest online business networking platform. For Kevin, one of the most rewarding things in his business is being able to help others succeed with a very important aspect of their lives — their careers. ‘National Grief Awareness Day’ With Founder, Angie Cartwright

‘National Grief Awareness Day’ With Founder, Angie Cartwright

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Angie Cartwright.

Angie has experienced the pain of profound loss many times in her life starting with the loss of her baby sister when Angie was just a small child followed by the loss of her newlywed husband from a tragic car accident at the age of 21, and finally the devastating loss of her mother from an accidental overdose in 2010.

Following these deeply personal experiences of loss, Angie found herself paralyzed with grief. Learning the hard way that grievers are often misunderstood, Angie decided to channel her grief into action and is now dedicated to raising awareness about bereavement and helping those experiencing grief to heal.

Angie is committed to help change how our culture understands and views grief. Through a
change.org petition asking President Biden to recognize August 30 as National Grief Awareness Day, Angie is doing her part to help end the stigma surrounding grief and help thousands of grievers find solid footing once again.

By reaching out to thousands of grievers on social media for the past 20 years, she has found that healing can only take place when grief is not shamed, rushed or tabooed. This is how she herself found her own healing.

‘empowerHER’ With Founder & CEO, Cara Belvin

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Cara Belvin. Cara Belvin is a social entrepreneur known for her role as Founder and CEO of empowerHER, a nonprofit organization for children and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent.   Cara is an energetic and visionary leader and has expanded empowerHER from a local grassroots movement to an international nonprofit. Inspired by the loss of her own mother, Kit, at the age of 9, Cara formed empowerHER in 2013 to support and connect girls and young women who have experienced the loss of their mothers.   Today, the organization serves boys, girls and nonbinary youth in a non-therapeutic, community-based, volunteer-driven model with one mission, two programs—events and 1:1 mentorship. All programs are free of charge to the family and strive to help teach the girls that loss is survivable. Cara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and a Masters of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. Cara began her career as a School Psychologist working with children with disabilities and transitioned her career into nonprofit management and philanthropy. Cara frequently presents on issues surrounding adversity, grief and loss, women’s empowerment, and social entrepreneurship.   As the founder of the only nonprofit in the world dedicated to mentoring children who have experience the loss of a parent, Cara’s efforts have been featured on The Today Show, CNN, PBS NewsHour with Judy Woodruff, and more.  Cara is also the lead producer of HBO’s The Conversation: Stories that Matter. ‘Alex Level Joy’ • Checking in With Amelia Green

‘Alex Level Joy’ • Checking in With Amelia Green

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Amelia Green. There are many ways to describe Amelia Green, but how she HOPES she is seen is as a light that reflects all the joy that life contains — in even the darkest moments. Through a lifetime of troubles and traumas, Amelia has found that her strength comes from every single triumph — no matter how small — that she experiences and finding the ability to truly see and appreciate the good in life. Amelia is a true believer that there is always SO much good…when you look. Even right here on The Power of Love Show, Amelia’s journey of triumph & love can be evidenced over the last two years in her previous appearances. On her first appearance, she spoke of the intense love and joy her son, Alex, brought to a world that had trouble accepting and understanding his Nonverbal Autism and Epilepsy. When she lost Alex in March 2021, Amelia lost her world and her gravity — but found a voice, once again, on The Power of Love Show to share how the #AlexLevelJoy her boy brought to this world would never fade, nor would his memory. After losing her mom, Tina, in October 2022 Amelia again found herself searching for the joy and meaning in every day. It was only then she realized that it was finally time to take care OF herself, FOR herself — not so she could be who others needed her to be. Amelia has spent every day since losing Alex making memories with Cameron and Bradley, Alex’s brothers and keepers of his memory & love as well as finding & creating ‘Alex Level Joy’ everywhere they go. By utilizing this platform here with us, Amelia has found even more purpose in her journey of grief and a new & unique way to spread ‘Alex Level Joy and Love’ to the world, as well as ‘Tina Level Peace and Compassion’. ‘Turning Pain Into Purpose’ With Motivational Speaker, Fabi Powell

‘Turning Pain Into Purpose’ With Motivational Speaker, Fabi Powell

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Fabi Powell.

Fabi Powell lost her Army Ranger husband, Josh, to Synovial Sarcoma cancer at 29 years old. She started the Josh Powell Foundation in his honor to help encourage newly diagnosed patients and fulfill the wishes of those running out of time.

At 33, she started IVF to have her late husband’s baby. Two years later, still no baby, but by the grace of God and an incredible team of doctors, she’s still fighting for their dream.

She shares her story to give others hope—reminding them that joy does coexist alongside unimaginable pain, and that it can, and will, exist for them too.

She believes there is still beauty to be found in life after earth shattering loss; that there is extraordinary love on the other side of debilitating fear; and that impossible dreams can become reality with enough faith and resilience.

Fabi believes, “Life is hard, but it’s too short to let the hard outweigh the beauty. And when we learn that, we must pass it on.”

‘The Farewell Library’ With Creator & Curator, Jade Adgate

‘The Farewell Library’ With Creator & Curator, Jade Adgate

On today’s episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Jade Adgate.

Jade Adgate is and has always been a caregiver, a nurturer, a helper and a wide-eyed companion to her elders. Serving her own aging family members alongside her growing babies, Jade developed a reverence for the bookends of the human experience, birth and death. This perspective forms the stance Jade brings into the work she now does as a death midwife: the belief that sacred, holistic and dignified death is a right every human being is entitled to.

Jade has served as an active hospice volunteer since 2018 and as a death midwife since 2020.

Farewell Fellowship was created in 2021 to expand the practice of contemplative death companionship to the wider Nashville community.

An avid reader, Jade began The Farewell Library as a curated virtual home for her death and grief themed book reviews, the site of the virtual monthly death and grief book club and a death midwifery education platform.

In 2023, Farewell Fellowship is expanding to include the Farewell Apothecary which will offer gifts and herbal support for people who are ill, dying, grieving and their caregivers.

Blankies4MyBuddies With Founder, CEO, Author & Grief Activist, CJ Matthews

Blankies4MyBuddies With Founder, CEO, Author & Grief Activist, CJ Matthews

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, CJ Matthews.

CJ Matthews' inspirational story began when his family experienced a pregnancy loss when he was five years old. His grief sparked an idea. CJ wanted to help other kids who might be dealing with similar feelings of sadness. The idea led to creating a charitable project called "Blankies 4 My Buddies," which has since grown into a globally recognized organization that brings small tokens of comfort, like cozy blankets, to children dealing with traumatic situations from grief and loss to chronic illnesses and homelessness.

Now 15 years old, CJ has received numerous awards for his service, including the 2019 YOU Awards International Community Service Honoree, aired on WSB-TV Atlanta, and named a Baskin Robbins Pint-Sized Hero July 2020 for his efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. He received the President's Volunteer Gold Service Award in 2020. CJ is a founding member of the Giving Tuesday Sparks, a youth leader in the global generosity movement.

In November 2021, CJ released his first children's book, "And Then There Was One: A Story to Help Kids Cope with Grief and Loss," but he was already a published author. His award-winning poem, "I Am Great," appeared in Inklings Book 2019 (Society of Young Inklings, Inc), and he also contributed an essay about social justice to "In Their Own Words: Relevant Essays from Brilliant Young People In The Year 2020." CJ plans to write more books.

CJ was born in Charleston, SC, but his family moved to Atlanta when he was seven. He is the proud big brother of Kollin, who is six years old and is following in his footsteps. CJ plays football, rugby and is on his school’s varsity wrestling team. He enjoys anime, music, video and board games, and hanging out with friends and family.

‘Love Is The Gift’ With Author, Joanna P.A Moore

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest & author, Joanna P.A Moore. Born in 1974 and raised in London, England, Joanna is a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, or BACP-qualified and registered Therapeutic Counselor and runs her own private practice in Fulham. Joanna also has over 18 years of experience working in inner-city areas as a youth worker and program manager with young people ages 8 to 21, supporting their development and life skills through informal learning. Joanna was inspired to write her book, “Love is the Gift: Supporting Children Through Bereavement”, after the death of a very significant and influential person in her life in 2017. Christina was like a second mother to her. Additionally, living with a rare, life-threatening condition known as ‘Addison’s Disease’ since 2009 and having two small children of her own, Joanna felt that there was not enough literature out there to support her own children through the difficult feelings surrounding death. Wanting to create a tool that could help her own children and others, she embarked on creating the beautiful and poetical story about Alana, the mermaid. URhino Project With Entrepreneur, Philanthropist & Rhino Rescue Leader, Tony Knight

URhino Project With Entrepreneur, Philanthropist & Rhino Rescue Leader, Tony Knight

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Tony Knight. Tony Knight is an Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, & Rhino Rescue Leader. Tony is admittedly a bit of an idealist and visionary striving to impact positive change for our endangered wildlife and our environment. He does so through radical conscious consumerism and mentoring businesses on how small changes in their daily operations can not only save them money, but also help them free up cashflow which can be allocated towards helping to impact positive change for our animals, our planet and ultimately us & the future generations to come. Tony’s career path has been unexpected. He studied Supply Chain Engineering in South Africa and was offered a job with Terex (Construction Machinery engineering) in the UK in 2003. He unexpectedly switched careers in 2005 landing himself in the advertising technology space in London for 5 years before being transferred to Toronto where he eventually started an advertising tech agency in 2010. During these years he was leading wildlife conservation projects in his spare time and leading tourism & travel initiatives to raise funds for the nonprofit projects — specifically rhino rescue projects — he was helping which ultimately lead him to a shift from the for-profit space to the non-profit space. Tony’s journey from for-profit to non-profit was not without bumps and bruises along the way. It has been a journey of growth, enlightenment, blood (literally), sweat and tears. This transition started to accelerate after his first visit to Burning Man back in 2015 where he made a radical life decision to take active steps to transform his for-profit businesses into platforms to help fundraise for the wildlife/environmental conservation projects he was actively involved with. This came at a pivotal time when rhino poaching attacks were on the rise in South Africa and having been witness to the brutal suffering and trauma rhinos undergo at the hands of poachers he knew he needed to fully invest himself and his time into nonprofit projects — specifically geared to protect rhinos from poachers. He blended his many years of experience leading wildlife conservation projects, leading tourism & travel initiatives and running an advertising tech company together to make his goal of helping to protect vulnerable animals & wildlife a reality. This lead him to co-founding the Upmost Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization. ‘Grief 2 Growth’ With Life Coach, Grief Partner, Author & Podcast Host, Brian D. Smith

‘Grief 2 Growth’ With Life Coach, Grief Partner, Author & Podcast Host, Brian D. Smith

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Brian D. Smith. Brian holds many titles including, but not limited to, LIFE COACH, GRIEF PARTNER, AUTHOR & PODCAST HOST. Brian’s life journey has given him a unique perspective on the human experience — with an appreciation for both the joys and the sorrows he’s encountered along the way. With his wife of 30 years, he raised two beautiful, competent, compassionate and independent daughters. In June of 2015, however, his youngest daughter, Shayna, suddenly and unexpectedly passed from this life into the next life at the tender age of 15. With Shayna’s passing, Brian experienced the most profound loss anyone can suffer. He had to learn to survive his grief for the sake of his wife and his oldest daughter. Having been deeply scarred by toxic religion as a young man, Brian had instilled in him an intense fear of death… a fear that he would have to learn to overcome with a lifelong spiritual quest. After Shayna’s transition, his spiritual quest intensified, prompted by the extraordinary visions and messages he received from her after her death. As a result of those experiences, he immersed myself in researching concepts of the afterlife, taking a scientific, as well as a spiritual and philosophical approach to it. With his life coaching & grief work, Brian’s mission is to help people rediscover WHO they are and WHY they are here. In those two questions lie the secrets to not only surviving this life, but thriving. Brian believes that if you’re feeling “stuck”, it’s most likely because you have forgotten the answer to one or both of these questions. Brian’s vision is to create a world where everyone has a sense of purpose and fulfillment. If we know the “why”, we can endure any “how”. He wants to remind everyone of their true nature and their reason for being. He has studied the nature of life and death and how to progress through grief of all kinds from a job loss to divorce to illness and the death of a loved one. Brian speaks from experience on all of the above examples of grief. As a grief guide, Brian aims to provide a safe space where you can safely share what you are experiencing. He shares techniques that he discovered and developed after his devastating loss and, perhaps most importantly, he helps his clients understand that death is not goodbye and that your relationship with your loved one can continue. He believes that any ending is a new beginning. Shortly after Shayna transitioned, Brian discovered Helping Parents Heal, a non-profit peer-to-peer support group for parents of children who have passed. He volunteers with Helping Parents Heal and is a member of their Board of Directors. He has worked with hundreds of parents who have lost children. Brian is the author of “Grief 2 Growth: Planted. Not Buried: How to Survive and Thrive After Life's Greatest Challenges” as well as the host and creator of the Grief 2 Growth podcast. ‘Emerald Awakenings’ With End-of-Life Guide and Grief Companion, Nicole Comach

‘Emerald Awakenings’ With End-of-Life Guide and Grief Companion, Nicole Comach

On this episode of The Power of Love Show, we welcome special guest, Nicole Comach.

Nicole is an End-of-Life Guide and Grief Companion. She assists people in planning their final days and advocates for people’s end-of-life wishes and preferences.

As a death educator and empath, she guides others in finding a sense of ease and comfort in times of immense sorrow and fear. Her intuitive spirit and compassion for the human condition has always allowed her to speak openly about the feelings and emotions that transpire from death.

Giving to her community is one of her biggest passions and parallels her natural response to hold space for people experiencing death, loss, and grief.

Her interest in death work formed organically and began just after the death of her grandfather in 2001. In 2002, she began working as a Funeral Attendant and Mortuary Assistant in a family-owned mortuary in Northern California. The handful of years she spent assisting families who had lost a loved one was life changing.

Death is raw, heavy, and often feared. Her experience in this setting paved a path of wonder, fully allowing her to ponder two big questions: “How do you want to live?” and “How do you want to die?”

The years following her work in the funeral industry, she found herself giving her time and heart to the field of Education. Upon moving to Oregon in 2004 she worked as an Early Childhood Education Teacher for almost 10 years. Children are magic, and they have always sparked so much joy and wonder in her life. Nicole transitioned into the world of Social Work in 2013, working with houseless families in Portland and advocating for children in the foster care system. While in this position, it became clear that her flair for helping others comes straight from her heart source and loss and grief support has always been her calling.

In April of 2020, she completed her first Death Doula training. Since then, she has acquired dozens of hours of training and mentorship on topics such as advance deathcare planning, holistic funerals and ceremonies, green burials, ambiguous loss and speaking with children about grief. Her education does not stop here, and she is committed to furthering her knowledge through real life experience and speaking with other death workers in her community. Her network of supporters and mentors continues to grow every day and she is grateful for all of the guidance she has received from some of the biggest pioneers in death work.

Nicole believes that becoming a death worker and educator is a gift and a calling in this lifetime. With compassion and grace, her hope is to help others remove the taboos surrounding death and close the gaps of isolation and extreme discomfort. Her experience is forever evolving, and she trusts that the process will shine its light.
