#092 Swift Strategies: Appreciating Your Clients and Your Team Part 2 with Krista Dicks, RMT
This is Part 2 of 2 Focusing on Keeping Great Massage Therapists in your practice
Check out Part 1 for Client Retention: https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/d0EmO8jIwJb
Today, we are diving into the world of client retention and therapist retention, drawing parallels between two seemingly unrelated worlds: massage therapy clinics and the music industry.
In this episode, we'll unravel the intriguing connection between Taylor Swift's bonus strategy for her Era’s tour team and the power of appreciation in retaining massage clients and massage therapists. We'll uncover valuable lessons that massage therapists can learn from Swift's approach to rewarding dedication and loyalty, and how these insights can transform the way massage therapy clinics engage with their clients and their team. We also compare the reasons why it's better to retain great massage therapists than it is to always seek new ones.

#091 Money Nuts and Bolts for Therapists in Private Practice With Linzy Bonham
You thought that being a massage therapist was going to be all about giving great massages right? If you are a solo practitioner you may have quickly realized that there is a lot more to running your own business (yes- you are a business) than you originally thought. From maintaining a workspace, marketing, scheduling, admin, networking, and yikes- managing your money!
Fear not! Linzy is here to give you the nuts and bolts of how she helps therapists in private practice feel calm and in control of their finances.
In this episode Linzy helps us understand why we feel money overwhelm, our experience with money shame, the difference of feeling money guilt, and how we can improve our mindset and money beliefs. She shares practical advice for saving for taxes and how much you should be paying yourself!
I hope you enjoy this episode with Linzy Bonham!
About Linzy Bonham:
Linzy Bonham is a private practice therapist turned money coach who helps private practice owners and health professionals feel calm and in control of their finances through her coaching at Money Nuts & Bolts and her podcast Money Skills for Therapists.
It all started when she saw her extremely skilled colleagues struggle with the money side of business. Some had even left private practice, or were avoiding starting one, because the financial side was too stressful.
So Linzy decided to help therapists and health professionals develop peace of mind about their money. Since so many were never taught these skills, she focuses on the “how” of making the business side of private practice doable, and even super satisfying.
Check out Linzy's free, on-demand training that will empower you to feel calm and in control of your finances.
You will learn how to make peace with money and thrive in your private practice — without burning out, skipping a paycheque, or sleepless nights worrying about debt.

#083 Hope For The Best But Then Plan For The Worst with Thomas Thorne, Investment and Insurance Broker
As a massage therapist, have you ever been asked if your hands are insured? Have you thought about how you are going to save for retirement as a self-employed massage therapist? How long could you survive on your savings if you received a life changing diagnosis?
On this podcast I want to bring you the topics and guests that will help you become the best version of yourself- to show you the ways of a radical massage therapist and how to work smarter, not harder. Protecting yourself, your career, and your loved ones is part of being a radical massage therapist.
Introducing Thomas Thorne, investment and insurance broker to the podcast has been a priority of mine for awhile. Having him explain the differences between insurance- life, disability, and critical illness as well as discussing the variety of ways we can and should be saving for our retirement may seem overwhelming in the moment but, I hope this episode sparks a curiosity and a desire to have more of these conversations with the right resources.
I hope this episode curbs any skepticism and helps you develop a plan for your future.
About our guest Thomas Thorne
Tom is president of Thorne Financial Solutions and is a seasoned Insurance and Investment Broker serving his clients since 2006.
His passion is to help families and business owners protect their greatest assets – their earning potential, families, business and employees. #077 "Let Their Curiosity Rage On" is a Terrible Plan for Your Marketing: With Krista Dicks, RMT
This is not an episode about what you "should" do in your marketing but, it is a cautionary tale about what not to do when marketing for your practice or techniques.
Providing vague information or buzz words will send your client to the depths of Google. We all know how helpful as a tool Google can be- but, is it the best option for your potential client trying to decide if your practice, your technique, or you as a practitioner are right for them? #069 How To Give Yourself Vacation Pay As a Self-Employed Massage Therapist with Emilie McKay, RMT and Coach
This is a recording of a coaching call between myself (Krista Dicks, RMT) and Emilie McKay, RMT (@Thermtpreneur). I was getting ready to leave on holiday and I have been purposely saving to give myself time off to alleviate my financial stress while on holiday. Talking to Emilie gave me clarity and helped answered my questions.
You are not alone in navigating a successful massage practice while being self-employed. We often over complicate or overwork ourselves when it comes to taking time off and we may even daydream about what it's like to have paid vacation days if we worked with the government or a larger company.
I hope this episode answers your questions and encourages you to to write your own cheque while you are enjoying some much needed rest and recovery as a healthcare provider.
Emilie and I discuss:
- How much do you really need to set aside for 1, 2 or 3 weeks off?
- Do you calculate on gross or net income?
- Best options for savings accounts to maximize growth
- Why time is on your side
- Why trying to make up the hours will lead to burnout

All of these questions and more are answered in this episode with Melissa Pierson, RMT and owner of The Online Wellness Institute.

#067 What might I put in place to allow me to go off the grid for 4 to 8 weeks, with no phone or email? (17 Questions That Changed My Life: Tim Ferriss) With Krista Dicks, RMT
Hello Radical Massage Therapist!
I journaled daily on these 17 questions as shared by Tim Ferriss and I wanted to share my answers with you.
The question in this episode is: What might I put in place to allow me to go off the grid for 4 to 8 weeks, with no phone or email?
How could this relate to your massage career and how could it relate to your personal life?
We can all benefit from exploring this question even if you never plan to go off the grid for any amount of time.
Systems are sexy and if you don't have them you will quickly find out where there are bottlenecks in your practice, how much you micromange , and how quickly things can fall apart if you aren't around. That's not what we want.
One goal of starting business (including a massage practice) is to enjoy time freedom away from it! So why make things difficult on yourself by gatekeeping?
In this episode I share my top tips for creating systems in my practice, how I build trust with my colleagues, and ways I am still improving.
I hope you enjoy!

#063 Go With the Flow and Sync Your Schedule with Samantha Storozuk, RMT
Jumping right into today’s episode we are discussing cycle syncing and how we can work with our bodies instead of against them. If you are a person who menstruates or you know someone who does, you will recognize that not everyday is amazing and in fact some days feel absolutely terrible. Over the course of a month you can feel different physically, mentally, and emotionally every single day. My guest Samantha Storozuk has a fascination with this topic and I am super excited to speak with her on how we can “flip the script.” Instead of powering through the month accepting it is what it is- we can take power to understand our cycle and schedule our month to optimize the highs and choose rest on the lows. The benefits of this career is that we have independence and we are in charge of our own bodies, and our own schedules. I hope you enjoy this episode with Samantha!
ABOUT OUR GUEST
Samantha Storozuk, RMT is a Registered Massage Therapist since 2016, she now co-owns Marchdale Massage in Ottawa, ON.
Sam has an eclectic mix of topics she's passionate about, that she applies to her own personal practice and Massage Therapy in general. Want to see her really light up? #62 What If I Couldn't Pitch My Product Directly? (17 Questions That Changed My Life: Tim Ferriss) With Krista Dicks, RMT
Hello Radical Massage Therapist!
I journaled daily on these 17 questions as shared by Tim Ferriss and I wanted to share my answers with you.
The question in this episode is: What If I Couldn't Pitch My Product Directly?
How could this relate to your massage career and how could it relate to your personal life?
Did I lose you with the word product? Stick around because I have some ideas as it relates to our service based business!
The thing is- we worked really hard to become massage therapists and earn a professional title but, your title doesn’t help explain what the benefits are of what it means to be a massage therapist.
We often list the certifications of our job title, the skills, and techniques we have but, what people actually want to know about are the success stories as a result of those skills! They want to know about the results.
We forget that it’s the unique person behind the title that helps us stand out from the other massage therapists.
How can we educate about massage therapy without it becoming a lecture?
Check out this episode for ideas on how you can pitch yourself as a massage therapist without actually talking about massage therapy.
I hope you enjoy!

#61 What's The Least Crowded Channel? (17 Questions That Changed My Life: Tim Ferriss) With Krista Dicks, RMT
Hello Radical Massage Therapist!
I journaled daily on these 17 questions as shared by Tim Ferriss and I wanted to share my answers with you.
The question in this episode is: What's the least crowded channel?
How could this relate to your massage career and how could it relate to your personal life?
What the heck does this question mean anyway?
Well, here's how I applied it to this exercise...
Since massage therapy is so wonderful- we try to share massage therapy with everyone!
We can treat it all so why not list everything we do and every modality?
Our practice is located in a city with a large population - why shouldn't I advertise everywhere?
Well, when you consider these areas may be very crowded with other massage therapists doing the same thing- you may not stand out.
Check out this episode for ideas on how you can access the least crowded channel and find the right clients for you and the right massage therapists to work with!
I hope you enjoy!

How would it feel if you told your team "I Trust You." ?
As a clinic owner I share how I have implemented the $100 or less rule to give my colleagues the power to make decisions on behalf of the clinic. It helps to give me the freedom I am seeking as a business owner too. Because the last thing you want when you're on holiday is a text message that says "we're out of toilet paper."
I hope you enjoy!

#58 What are the worst things that could happen? Could I get back here? (17 Questions That Changed My Life: Tim Ferriss) With Krista Dicks, RMT
Hello Radical Massage Therapist!
I journaled daily on these 17 questions as shared by Tim Ferriss and I wanted to share my answers with you.
The question in this episode is: What's The Worst That Could Happen? Could I Get Back Here?
How could this relate to your massage career and how could it relate to your personal life?
We all know what Goal Setting is and how to map out a plan to achieve the goal but rarely do we consider breaking down our fears surrounding the goal and often the fear paralyzes us into not taking action and it also gives us some pretty good excuses to keep us safe from taking risks.
Enter Fear Setting.
Tim has a simple pen to paper method for mapping out your fears surrounding a particular goal that helps you to see your fears not as mountains but as mole hills. I lay it out in this episode and share some of my own examples.
I love this exercise and I have used it a few times in my career and personal life which has given me the confidence to take risks and move abroad and also open my own massage practice.
I hope you enjoy!

#050 Working Abroad As A Massage Therapist. With Krista Dicks, RMT

If you are wanting to work anywhere else but where you are now this episode is the best way I can introduce you to the first 3 things I did in order to get started on working abroad. Massage therapy is a profession with freedom of work location and maybe that's why you chose this career in the first place. Consider this part one and if you want more- let me know! I'm so excited to share this episode with you and I hope you send me a postcard from your own paradise! XO

Your brick and mortar space is an extension of you and it represents the expertise your ideal patients are looking for. If you wonder why patients aren't rebooking or referring even though they tell you it was an excellent massage- what's going on? In this episode you will discover that your physical location has even more of an impact on how your patient feels over the great work you do as a massage therapist! ABOUT CAROLYN BOLDT
Thirty years ago, Carolyn was faced with a hard decision: doctors wanted to remove her
daughter's tonsils, but she was hesitant to have her two-year-old daughter undergo surgery at such a young age. Today, thanks to chiropractic care, Carolyn’s daughter still has her tonsils. The impact of that care on her daughter’s life would make Carolyn a lifelong advocate of holistic healthcare. In 2004, Carolyn and her husband co-founded CrossFields as a design-build firm in Atlanta, and in 2011 they changed their focus to improving the public’s perception of alternative medicine, and highlighting the power of holistic healthcare. CrossFields has helped hundreds of
practitioners across the country expand their practices and reach higher levels of success by maximizing space, attracting and retaining patients, and saving money.
#047 Should You Take Courses In Your First Year of Massage Practice? Krista Dicks, RMT
If you are a new massage therapist and you are beginning to discover all the amazing courses, modalities, techniques, trainings, retreats, workshops, seminars etc that you can take to enhance your career- I bet you feel like you want to take them all now. Like, right now! Maybe you have something in mind in order to work with a specific population, you want to go deeper on a technique you learned in school, or you have seen something that "looks cool" and you want to try. On the other hand, maybe you are feeling overwhelmed by all the options and since continuing education plays a big role in maintaining your practice you are willing to take anything just to earn the credits and maintain practice standards. Either way I have some thoughts on whether or not you should take courses in your first year of practice. If you are beyond your first year in practice I would love it if you shared your feedback!
