Her Story! The Virtual Clinician
Melissa shares with us her journey on becoming the Virtual Clinician and where she is now!
Melissa Douglass is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board Certified Tele-mental Health Provider whose goal is to merge quality mental health care and technology to advance communities through wellness and equitable care. She is the founder of Goal Driven Counseling, a virtual multi-state group private practice. Melissa also coaches busy professionals on how to prioritize self-care and personal wellness, she consults with mental health professionals and organizations on how to incorporate tech based services in their practices, and serves as an Adjunct Professor where she teaches a graduate course on integrating technology and social work practice at the University of Missouri-St Louis.
Melissa is passionate about self-care, normalizing mental health by increasing access and decreasing barriers for marginalized populations, and is an advocate for community-based education. To date, she has shared her knowledge with platforms such as National Public Radio, Blackdoctor.org, KPLR News Channel 11, the National Association of Social Workers, and various other conferences, podcasts, and trainings. As she wears many hats, Melissa asserts her most rewarding roles are lovingly that of wife and mom of three incredible individuals.

Today we had a conversation with Victoria Rizzuto, MS and Dr. Rachel Altvater about using Apps in Practice!
Victoria is a third-year doctoral student studying Clinical Psychology at Loyola University in Maryland. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh with a minor in Communication and a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University in Maryland. Victoria has previously provided outpatient individual therapy as well as administered Psychoeducational Assessments at the Loyola Clinical Centers. As part of her master's practicum, Victoria trained at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's Intensive Outpatient Program using expressive-based therapies with preschoolers and their families. She has experience providing therapeutic care to individuals, groups, and families. Victoria's approach to therapy focuses on creating a therapeutic space in which a person feels safe, accepted, authentic, and empowered to create their own happiness by growing at their own pace. She believes that emotional healing truly begins when a person feels heard and accepted. Her clinical interests include the preschool population, child-centered play therapy, trauma-informed care, technology's impact on child development, and working with underserved populations. Virtual Reality With Dr. Jessica Stone Ep.16
Dr. Jessica Stone is a licensed psychologist working in a private practice setting in Colorado. She has been a practitioner, professor, presenter, and author for more than 25 years. Dr. Stone’s interest in digital tools, specifically using virtual reality, tablets, and consoles, has culminated in clinical mental health use and research for mental health, medical, and crisis settings. She is the co-creator of the Virtual Sandtray App for iPad (VSA) and the Virtual Sandtray for Virtual Reality (VSA-VR). The VSA and VSA-VR programs have been developed for therapeutic use in and with a variety of settings and clientele. In mental health settings, VSA and VSA-VR assist with assessing psychological concerns, treatment planning, and implementing interventions. Medical setting use focuses on distraction and palliative use while yielding valuable emotional and psycho-social information in a highly motivating, fun, therapeutic way.
Dr. Stone has recently launched her edited book, Integrating Technology into Modern Therapies, and Game Play and Digital Play therapy in process for 2020. She is also a senior personnel member on the advisory board for the University at Buffalo Neurocognition Science Laboratory’s Educational Technology Goal Two project,EVRSTSR: Effects of Virtual Reality on Student's and Teacher's Self Regulation.
