Self-Awareness: How Aware Of You Are You?
Hello you all! Today we are talking about self-awareness. This is something that has been something VERY important for me to develop. It is not just being aware of me but being aware of how being me impacts other people. Yeh, you read that right. We all have blindspots and need to be aware of them. I found a really cool article on self-awareness in FORBES. You can read it here. It talks about four self-awareness archetypes. Which one would you say describes you? --- DISCLAIMER: This podcast is for informational purposes only and is not equivalent to individual therapy. "Self-Care: Operating on Empty" with Dr Jason Branch
Well, a couple months ago, I viewed a training on self-care for helping professionals by Dr Branch! I reached out to him via Instagram to tell him just how helpful his training was. Dr Branch thanked me for reaching out AND he volunteered to be a guest on my podcast! In honor of June being Men's Health Month, I thought that it'll be a great idea for Dr Branch to talk about self-care for men.
Here's a little about Dr Branch:
When Dr Branch is not counseling, he serves as an adjunct professor, motivational speaker and soon to be author. Currently, he is engaged in professional and scholarly work focused on African American male experiences, mentoring, multicultural issues, and the practice of self-care for helping professionals. In his personal life, Dr Branch enjoys traveling, live music, movies, culinary arts, spending time with my family and various adventures.
Nuggets from this episode:
How Dr Branch became interested in counseling
Why he is so passionate about self-care
How cultural beliefs keep up from practicing self-care
My discussion with him was so good that I decided to break this down into two episodes!
If you would like to learn more about Dr Branch, you can connect with him via his website or on instagram.

How do I deal with a spirit of competition?
Hey ya'll!
Today, I am talking about getting of a spirit of competition.
Its cool to compete when you are playing a sport but not when you are dealing with people in day to day life. I would like to start off by defining what it means to complete - "strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others who are trying to do the same." Basically, competition looks like trying to one up someone or feeling inadequate when you are looking at other people. A good way to get over a spirit of competition is to collaborate with others. The dictionary defines collaborating as "working jointly on an activity especially to produce or create something." I try to encourage my students to collaborate with their classmates as this is necessary to do in the workforce. It is also necessary when we are dealing with other people.
In addition to sharing my personal experience, I am sharing five nuggets on how to get over a spirit of competition. And to give you a hint, one involves being honest with God and the other one involves helping others. But you will have to listen to this episode to hear more about this.
Do you deal with a spirit of competition? What helps you when you notice that you are comparing yourself to others?

"What is good grief?"
Welcome back to season three of Mindful Nuggets Podcast! I launched my very first episode of Mindful Nuggets on February 4, 2022! You can check out my first episode here.
Today's episode is about grief! Someone who I loved a lot died in the last week. And I have experienced grief in a different way. It was peaceful and joyful. That sounds strange, right? It is so interesting how each death hits so differently.
In today's episode, I am talking about how we experience grief differently, how we can deal with our grief and where we can go and get support.
I have a workshop coming up on February 17, 2023 from 6-7:30pm. This will be a safe place for those who are dealing with grief. Click on this link if you are interested:
