First impressions are so important. Many times recruiters will use the internet to find out more about you before they call you in for an interview.This session is a SUPER 5 selection. 5 things to stay away from when selecting your profile pic, then we will double back and look at 5 ways to have the very best type of photo to attract your audience. Are you ready for this? Of course you are, right after this.
If you are using LinkedIn as a part of your Career Campaign strategy, be careful not to fall into the following pitfalls.
- Make sure that your photo speaks to your personal brand. Stay away from off brand or cropped photos.
- Aged out
- Can’t see your face clearly
- Squeezed In or stretched out (maintain that aspect ratio)
- Slightly Blurry or poor quality
Make an investment in yourself and have professional photos taken. I hear you talking, You're saying, Tonya, i'm not ballin like that. If cost is an issue do some research on how to take a good photo and have a friend take one of you. There are a LOT of great cell phone cameras and just as many photo editing apps available now that you can use to make sure your image is suitable for the size and shape necessary for the site. With a little effort you can make a great impression. Make sure to incorporate the following:

Is a way to prepare for an interview by creating organized notes so that you will have something to refer to just before the meeting. These notes will have all of the necessary phrases, scenarios, and anecdotes at the tip of your tongue.
The Orange Sticky consists of: Company Name, Recruiter Name, Address, Building Location, and Phone number. Green Notes - General - Notes that contain general information and remain the same for any interview. They contain the questions and answer stems that would be common for any type of job. Think Common Questions and Behavioral scenarios. Blue Notes - Specific to the job.

- Find a Skype buddy and practice

Did you realize that having a really good answer to that question can be just what you need to have a strong OBJECTIVE statement on your resume,? And ultimately lead you to a great career. Find out all about how to answer that question and how to craft a WINNING objective statement.
Formatting Tip: You don't actually need to type the words “ OBJECTIVE” or “SUMMARY” Keep your content limited to 3 to 5 lines and speak directly to the message you are trying to convey.

- Take some time to evaluate what you want to BE when you grow up.
- What does the pinnacle of your career look like in your minds eye? 6 months from now at entry level, 12 months from now, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years.
- Where to you want to be just before you retire? When do you want to retire?
If you are at the beginning of your career you may need to do some research on how to get from point A to point Z in your career.

SAO 1 - Your Resume Just might be TRASH!
This is not a podcast, this is a pod class for serious applicants who want to see serious results. Today let's take a look at the most important marketing masterpiece that you have to help you get your foot in the door, Your Resume. But wait. Guess what? Have you looked at your resume lately? You know what? Your resume just might be trash.
Your resume might be trash if:
- Typos - use the settings of your text editor with spell check or use Grammarly
- There are 25 bullets on the first page - or any subsequent page - please stop killing me with all those bullets
- You use the phrase “References Available Upon Request” - don't you think I know that
- Use of Txt or Chat Abbreviations in your phrases. I wnt 2 wrk 4 u. ikr
- Used the same adjective more than twice: Helped, Helped, Assisted, Assisted, Assisted, Provided, Provided, provided. Maintained, maintained, maintained, organized, organized, organized. etc.
- Times New Roman is your favorite font
- Vague Buzzwords
- Outdated facts and or Irrelevant skills - Microsoft Office, typing, use of fax machine, shorthand
- It contains the phrase ‘Objective Statement’ or ‘Summary Statement’
- If it hasn't been updated, changed, corrected, modified, or customized since your last job
Trash to Treasure Tips:
- Make sure your heading contains your contact information.
- Name, Location (city and state), phone number, email address
- Email should reflect your personal brand, simple, elegant, professional
- You don’t need to include the street address - save it for the new hire paperwork
- A better use of space would be your LinkedIn address, personal website, or Github for coders
- Name, Location (city and state), phone number, email address
- The most relevant and updated content should be near the top third of the first page

- Industry specific - target skill sets and experiences for a certain job
- Transition - Last ten years highlighting your strongest attributes yet featuring new skills and training
- If you must use a template - make sure to change the color scheme and fonts to make it unique.
