From Scientist to Professional Trumpeter, Laura Garwin (Part 1)
This week, Kristin talks with Laura Garwin, who turned professional trumpet player at the age of 52.
Laura went from physics to geology to journalism, with a Rhodes scholarship along the way, but finally found that she was ready to make trumpet her full-time career. In this episode, we hear about her humble musical beginnings, her resistance to study physics in the footsteps of her famous father, and why geologists are more fun than some musicians.

From Journalism to Multi-Faceted Theatre Maker, Sabrina Richmond
As a performer, Sabrina explores, amongst other things, identity, home, and female sexual pleasure. This week's episode is about more than just a career change- Kristin talks with Sabrina about the discomfort around talking about racism, where we find home, and learning more about your body and how it experiences pleasure after 35. They talk about Sabrina's "obsession" with the questions about desire and ultimately, Sabrina talks to Kristin about how racism and an economic downturn silenced her voice- and how she found it again.
For more about Sabrina and her Right to Pleasure project, follow her on Twitter @Lifeof_Bree. Email with interest to: events_lifeofbree@yahoo.com
More about the Right to Pleasure project from Sabrina:
Clitoral stimulation remains a taboo topic of conversation in majority of society. I am writing about my right to pleasure as a woman in a world where my desire has been taken out of my own hands and marketed back to me through products. How can my desire be outside of me? I would also love to discuss with men how the expectations on men to perform and 'provide' pleasure impacts the understanding and pursuit of the journey of desire and how bodies function.

From Corporate VP to Filmmaker at 65, Melissa Davey
This week on The Second Chapter podcast, Kristin talks with Melissa Davey, a documentary filmmaker who, after a career in non-profit, then as a high-level exec in the corporate world, left to become a filmmaker at 65. After a unexpected encounter with filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan inspired her to follow her dream, Melissa spent a year planning and went on to film Beyond Sixty Project™, a documentary feature film initiative about women over the age of 60.
The original voice of Siri, the Madam CJ Walker biographer and the sculptor of Lady Gaga’s Fame perfume carriage are among the inspirational stories revealed in this compelling documentary. From a very early age women are made to believe that our relevance has an expiration date. Showing us the power of resilience, defiance and the wisdom of experience the Beyond Sixty Project will challenge the way we think about aging and the value of our own stories. Melissa is living her own beyond sixty project!
She was the perfect fit to talk about her own Second Chapter- and may inspire some of you to turn your own next page.
