The Self-ish Life is a new concept that Jacki (certified personal trainer, nutrition and lifestyle coach) and Toby (MD, family medicine with a speciality in diabetes) derived to focus on self-betterment in any aspect of your life that you feel could use some help. No one is perfect but together, we feel with our very different backgrounds and experience, but like-minded life goals, will be an integral part of a team that includes YOU in a quest involving life coaching, fitness, nutrition, health and happiness. Why We Need Physical Activity

Let’s talk about physical activity shall we! There are two types of physical activity; unstructured and structured. Unstructured physical activity refers to movement that expends energy however not typically structured or planned, rather, it represents natural movement throughout a person’s day. These activities include a typical workday, walking the dog, lawnwork and cleaning the house. Structured physical activity is planned and intentional movement or exercise that are normally scheduled, with a predetermined date and time, have a set duration, may use fitness equipment and are led by someone with a certification or a degree in physical or sports education.

Both types of physical activity are important however, to lead a healthy lifestyle and to decrease our risk factors for acquiring chronic diseases, it’s crucial to participate in structured physical activity.  Jacki and Toby will talk through the statistics, the negative and positive impact of physical activity and provide you helpful tips to getting you on track!

Losing Time? Start Planning, Prioritizing and Preparing for Success!

People often cite lack of  “time”  as a barrier to focusing on our health and wellness.  In today’s society, we have been socialized to be “pleasers”, “role players”, and/or “servants”, giving others our time and attention (family, relationships, work, community, etc.).  Many find it hard to make time for ourselves, or identify and advocate for our own needs.  We subscribe to the notion that we will have “time” in the future, leaving us to either recover, reverse, or prepare for medical intervention for the lack of attention to our personal needs.  So just to summarize, if we don’t make time, time will be taken from us.  That includes the time needed for building our health, fitness and nutrition-related skills and behaviors.  Possibly impacting us financially, our personal quality of life, and even our lifespan on Earth.  We can have the life we want however it takes work, being intentional and strategic, in these areas of our life.  But it starts with “self”, ensuring you are fit and healthy to perform.  To do this, you must plan, prioritize and prepare to achieve success.  Join us in this discussion as we explore the importance of planning, prioritizing and preparing for success!  Supporting documents can be found at www.theself-ishlife.com.   Need a coach?  Contact me on our website or at https://procoach.app/jacki-weaver.

Introduction to the Self-ish Life Part 2: Stages of Change Model

Join Jacki and Toby for their first podcast discussing the Self-ish Life Program and how to improve overall health and fitness.  You'll love the way these two characters share their views on helping others develop their own personal journey toward change.   Toby (medical doctor) and Jacki (certified personal trainer and nutrition coach) will provide information, guidance and support to viewers, setting them up for success.  This is part  2 in this series.   In this episode we will discuss the Stages of Change Model.  Before you set out on your journey to improve your overall health or join the healthy lifestyle club, you must first understand where you are beginning.  Medical and fitness professionals use multiple tools to discover an individual’s readiness for change.  Surveys, intake forms and lengthy discussions help us better understand the needs of the individual so we have a starting point to begin a corrective course of action.  One tool that is often used is the Stages of Change Model, also called the Transtheoretical Model (TTM).  It describes the process of behavior change as occurring in stages.  Jacki and Toby will discuss this model and help you discover your starting point.
