Although it is never made explicit in the text, when we read the Gospels as story, we can picture a Jesus who, for most of the time, walked through life in unhurried peace and calmness. So unrushed was he that two people in need of his healing died because he would not allow himself to be dictated by circumstances. God received greater glory through Jesus, later raising both Lazarus and Jairus’s daughter from the dead. But in a busy world full of need, poverty, and sickness, Jesus walked through first-century Israel with apparent ease. He desires us to live in the same way.
But how do we do that in a demanding and stressful, modern world? How did Jesus manage it? Much of the answer lies in Jesus’s personal prayer life and his relationship to the Father.

Express you gratitude to God for His love, His grace and His presence with you this past year.

Notice: How has God grown you the most in this past year?  Look back over the year and bring your awareness to a point of personal transformation…I came into the year this way and I am finishing in a new way.

What is my favorite moment with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit over this past 12 months and why?

What is your personal response to God for these moments with Him?

What am I grateful to God for as I reflect on our journey through this past year?

In my journey through the year an I aware of any area of my life where God is inviting me to seek forgiveness, wisdom, patience, joy, love or any other word God wants to give me as we review our year together?

How do I walk away from this past year? Notice any feelings that you have sensed through this prayer and take time to ask God what He wants you to know about them? Notice the positive and notice the negative. Both are valuable as we come before God in prayer.

Claudia Campbell is a fine artist, educator, spiritual director, and retreat facilitator. Her art training included study in New York, Florence, Italy and Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. She spent most of her career as an art educator in public as well as private schools. She continues to offer private classes in her current community. She received her theological education and certification in spiritual direction from Springhill College, (a Jesuit school). She is trained in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.
