When an Abusive Partner Becomes a Mass Killer - Vanessa Burns of the James Smith Cree Nation
In September 2022 Vanessa Burns’ partner Myles Sanderson became one of Canada’s most infamous mass killers. He took 11 lives and injured 18 others on the James Smith Cree Nation and nearby town of Weldon Saskatchewan on the morning of September 4. Two of those lives he took were Vanessa’s father Earl Burns Sr. and his own brother Damien Sanderson. Myles even tried to kill his own son and niece. After the killings he went on the run before being ran off the road by police 3 days later. Shortly after being captured he died of an intentional overdose. Vanessa was kind enough to speak with me about her experience as a domestic abuse victim, what she went through that tragic day and the days following, as well as the complexity of grieving the loss of her partner, father of her children, her fathers killer and her abuser. May the victims of this tragedy never be forgotten: Thomas Burns, Carol Burns, Gregory Burns, Lydia Gloria Burns, Bonnie Goodvoice-Burns, Lana Head, Christian Head, Robert Sanderson, Wesley Petterson and Earl Burns Sr. Topics in this episode include abuse, murder, suicide, addiction, generational trauma Please consider buying me a coffee here!

I discovered Lindsay and her family on TikTok as she shares her journey. Not long ago Lindsay had a happy marriage with her loving husband. Together they were raising 6 kids. Can you be in love with someone whose character you barely recognize? What self care practises get her through the hard times? Follow Lindsay and her family on TikTok @lindsaywadmankelly

Lisa's idilic family was devastated when her 18 year old daughter was taken in a car crash. Grieving the loss of a child seems like an impossible task. How did Lisa manage to be a wife to grieving husband and mother to a grieving son and still be able to process her own emotions? There were little or to no external supports for her so Lisa has created a support to help others. Today Lisa Boehm is an author, speaker, grief mentor and podcaster. You can find her book, Journey to HEALING: A Mother's Guide to Navigating Child Loss, her podcast Rising Strong: Mental Health & Resilience and her services on her website https://www.lisakboehm.com/

Growing Up Abused and Unwanted - Brad Keck
Brad Keck grew up in a broken home. He was bounced back and forth between his parents, grandparents and extended family, eventually ending up in a foster group home for children. What happened in all those homes? Why did no one make him feel wanted and how did that affect his adult years? I went to school for a couple years with Brad and always wondered about him. Then one day I saw his name in an article in my local news paper 'Man severely burned in house explosion doubly punished'.
Topics in this episode include abuse, trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation
