MIND: ADHD and Menopause
Kirstin Bouse is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with nearly 3 decades of experience.
Over the past 15 or so years, she’s found herself working with women as they navigate big transitions in their lives - motherhood, divorce and perimenopause.
Six years into her own perimenopause experience, along with a late-diagnosis of ADHD (after all 3 sons were diagnosed as teenagers and young adults - yep, she was late to the party for them too) and burnout, Kirstin became super frustrated by the lack of recognition of the significance of perimenopause and midlife in general. Let alone the double whammy of perimenopause and ADHD.
In this episode, we discuss:
- what exactly is ADHD?
- the differences in ADHD between the sexes
- the process of getting a diagnosis for ADHD
- why is it that women in perimenopause might start to question if they have ADHD?
- what support can one expect once they have an ADHD diganosis

MIND: Menopause the Natural Way with Kirsty Strowger
“It’s insulting how a supplement brand can pop out ONE product to fix ALL your symptoms - we aren’t about that” Kirsty Strowger
From beauty to colon hydrotherapy to one of Australia’s leading women’s health supplements companies, Kirsty Strowger is the OG hustler, business maven, and health trend spotter.
With long-held passions for inner health and natural healing, Kirsty Strowger started Nature’s Help 2012 as a weight loss supplement manufacturer with over 400 Australian stockists. In 2014 she added to her e-commerce success with the creation of Turmeric Australia, which after a short time was and still is the biggest and most respected online Turmeric range of nutraceuticals in Australia.
In 2020 Kirsty started to work on an idea to get women more engaged with each other around the topic of menopause. The biggest complaint most women had was there wasn’t a dedicated trusted high-quality natural range to go to help alleviate symptoms women were experiencing during this time.
Kirsty then set about doing what she does best. She designed something amazing for the women who created the world's population.

MIND: Body Dysmorphia in Midlife
Body dysmorphia, a distressing psychological condition, manifests as a distorted perception of one's appearance. This internal struggle becomes even more prevalent among midlife women, who face unique challenges in a society obsessed with youth and beauty standards. The pressures of ageing, hormonal changes, societal expectations, and the influence of social media intensify the impact of body dysmorphia during this transformative stage of life. I was so excited to interview Penny Ashton - a New Zealand based, self-employed performer, poet, podcaster, writer and wedding celebrant to discuss our unique experiences with body dysmorphia and how we have come to the wonderful conclusion that we have NO F***S LEFT TO GIVE.
We discuss (in no particular order) porn, Jane Austen, impostor syndrome, diets, Jenny Craig, liposuction, bodybuilding, THAT Gwyneth Paltrow interview, selfie angles, clothing sizes and slut shaming.

MIND: Sanjith Shetty is a man on a menopause mission
Sanjith and I connected over LinkedIn and the topic "menopause". My curiosity was piqued. I'm used to seeing fellow GenX women building resources and advocating for better menopause care at work and home, so to speak with Sanjith who has invested in menopause care, was brilliant. Sanjith is obviously passionate about helping the 150 million women in India in menopause, but he's not planning on stopping there! By 2025, there will be 1 billion women globally in the menopause life stage and there is much work to be done to support them. I'm voting for Sanjith as "Male Menopause Advocate of the Year", joint award with my ever supportive husband, Dave Nuku. You can find Sanjith: LinkedIn Website For Sexy Ageing Resources

* What do women need to know about post surgery care and the onset of menopause?
* How does HRT support surgical menopause and how is it used?
* And what about testosterone?
This is a very in depth episode on this topic and I have been honoured to have the opportunity to speak with Dr Linda and my other guests to learn about this.

MIND: From Trauma to Healing in Midlife
Rebecca E Chandler is an author and survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Her book “It Won’t Hurt None – A Story of Courage, Healing, and a Return to Wholeness” details her journey from the depths of trauma to a place of hope and healing, offering a roadmap for others who are struggling with similar issues. In the book, she shares how she struggled with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and was often misdiagnosed by medical professionals.
However, through years of therapy and self-reflection, Rebecca was able to heal and reclaim her voice and her power.
In addition to her memoir, Rebecca has also written a companion journal called “Hurt No More – Grow a Foundation for Healing”. The journal offers a step-by-step guide to help others process their own trauma and find their own path to healing.

BODY: Surgical Menopause: a personal story
Emilie Joyal is a French Canadian living in New Zealand. Faced with a diagnosis for endometriosis and pre-cancerous cells on her ovaries, Emilie was advised to have a hysterectomy at 40. Emilie shares her experience and advice for women considering having a hysterectomy and we discuss, at length, the effects on woman’s hormones and the inevitable acceleration into menopause.
Emilie's experience was confusing and traumatic, as it often is for women when they don't have the full information they need to go through surgery, recover well and feel supported as they enter forced menopause. Emilie is the Founder of Surgical Menopause New Zealand and has set up a Facebook Community for other woman seeking evidence-based content and support.

BODY: Menopause for the South Asian Woman
In this episode, I'm starting with South Asian women and I interviewed Dr Shashi Prasad, an Indian Hindu national living and working in the UK.
Dr Shashi is a very experienced GP, British Menopause Society accredited Advanced Menopause Specialist and Board- Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician.
She has worked in the NHS and privately for many years providing a high standard of care to her patients. During her work as a GP, she noted a huge unmet need for good quality menopause care. This motivated her to start her journey as a menopause specialist and complete her training from King’s College Hospital, one of the leading menopause centres in the UK.
In this episode, we discuss:
* Dr Shashi’s motivation to train as a menopause specialist
* The differences for women in ethnic minorities accessing information, having conversation and support from their doctors.
* Dr Shashi’s personal experience with menopause and the incidence of South Asian women seeking her help.
* The higher risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes in South Asian women and how menopause symptoms affect midlife health.
* The complete lack of resources in Hindi language - is there a menopause symptom tracker for other languages?
* The main menopause symptoms of South Asian women.
I'm looking forward to speaking with more women on the topic of Race, Culture and Menopause for a more inclusive conversation.

MIND: My Menopause BFF - everybody needs one!
Becks McCulloch is 46 and had perimenopause symptoms for 7 years before knowing what they were. She just suffered. I want to highlight at this point that Becks was 39 at the time of starting menopause. I often hear from women “I’m too young to be in menopause” and believe me, I thought that applied to me too! When you speak to someone who’s symptoms start in their late 30’s, it’s a bloody wake up call!
In this episode, we:
* compare symptoms and perimenopause experiences
* discuss the struggle to get motivated
* talk about feelings of isolation
* unpack the role of a menopause support coach
* decide if menopause is "trending"
Becks is a trained and practicing physiotherapist, an accredited Menopause Support Coach and helps other women going through perimenopause with her knowledge, skills and lived experience.
Wishing all the listeners a very Merry Xmas!

BODY: Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Resistance and the effect of Oestrogen on Cognitive Function
I know the title of the podcast might seems a bit confronting but I believe it's important to understand that there is a lot to unpack when it comes to menopause, weight gain in menopause and overall women's health for longevity. My guest is Carys Sonnenberg, a NHS GP and Women's Health and Menopause Specialist. She is also the Founder of an online resource, Rowena Health, which provides facts and information for women in menopause.
In this episode, we unpack a lot
- We discuss some of the new marketing messages to women in menopause - the use of the words “meno-belly” “meno-weight” “fix your hormones” "rebalance your hormones”
- Her own experience with perimenopause as a doctor - recognising it in others but not in herself.
- What is metabolic syndrome? What is insulin resistance? What is the relationship to menopause?
- How does metabolic syndrome impact on health and longevity?
- Weight gain vs HRT vs motivation
- The role of oestrogen in cognitive function.

SPECIAL EPISODE: Periods and Perimenopause
The "period" talk in my teen years wasn't exactly positive. It was a bit taboo and I remember feeling awkward and embarrassed. Ironically, in my 50's, I am now having conversations where there is a level of awkwardness discussing perimenopause!! BUT, this is not the case with my teenage daughter, Jazz Maia (17) who freely speaks about periods with her friends and our family and knows A LOT about perimenopause.
I hope you enjoy the candid and unedited podcast episode - Let's Talk!
(No harm was done to animals or children in the making of this episode LOL - Jazz was a willing and happy participant - lucky me!)

Chapters 11 & 12: Stress, Mood Swings and Anxiety
In this deeply personal episode, I share how the perimenopause change impacted my stress and state of mind. When others may view you as a "motivated, confident go-getter" and you are having massive anxiety in your day-to-day work and home life, there is also a lot of shame with sharing that you might need help. I didn't know these emotions and experiences were linked to menopause - I wish I had known. I also got to speak with Clarissa Kristjansson who shares her story in my book "My Menopause Memoir"

SOUL: Dying to Live
When was the last time you spoke about death? And do you know how you would want your life to be celebrated? Do your loved ones know?
