Yemen

Yemen

In Yemen we see the largest humanitarian crisis of our time unfolding before our eyes.
Why is it so hard to keep the momentum on Yemen and to face the extent of human despair?
In this episode, I was lucky enough to talk to a political scientist, a UNHCR aid worker, and a Yemeni woman and founder of an NGO aiming to empower women and children in Yemen to explore some pressing questions.
This episode is dedicated to Yemen. To all the people in Yemen trying to survive, all the aid workers who work tirelessly to alleviate some of the distress on the population and everyone undertaking efforts to spread the message and help people within this forgotten war.

Where are you from? Exploring Cultural Identity with Sabina McKenna

Where are you from? Exploring Cultural Identity with Sabina McKenna

Where are you from? is a question that holds a magnitude of assumptions and often deprives people of their sense of belonging. Often, Black People and People of Colour are being asked this question, especially when they are navigating in a predominantly white landscape.
I was lucky enough to connect with the curator Sabina McKenna who is putting this question in the spotlight and addressing the emotional depth of cultural identity.
On June 29th the online exhibition 'Hair by Where Are You From' is launching, featuring 26 stories written by BIPOC womxn exploring the experience of having textured, curly and coily hair.
'The series aims to build pride and identity for women with textured hair by celebrating all of its beautiful variations.'

Turning the Page after ISIS – How Literature is Reviving the Spirit of Mosul – Fahad Sabah, Book Forum

Turning the Page after ISIS – How Literature is Reviving the Spirit of Mosul – Fahad Sabah, Book Forum

After three devastating years under the occupation of ISIS, Mosul's cultural scene is starting to blossom again.

The smoke of the war had not yet vanished from the city, when Fahad Sabah and his partner Harith Yaseen Abdulqadar started their mission to revive the spirit of Mosul – by creating a safe space for men and women alike, open for political debates, celebrating the literary minds of local writers and readers.

I talked to Fahad about this incredible achievement, the risks, and struggles of cultural projects in a post-war society and his visions for the future of Mosul and its people.

How does Climate Change affect International Security? with Bogna Cekus

How does Climate Change affect International Security? with Bogna Cekus

Dear Listeners,

How does Climate Change affect International Security? What are the fragility hotspots in the world? What will happen with all the displaced people?

My friend Bogna and I recorded the first episode for TUMULT!

Bogna studies for her Master in International Relations in Warsaw and we were in the same class for our exchange in Madrid.

She has an amazing way to make International Relations more approachable and I knew she would be a great guest on Tumult.

Tumults' mission is to bring students and young professionals into the focus of discussion and create a platform for people to have casual, yet important discourse about current affairs, culture, science and more.

Thank you Bogna for trusting and believing in this mission. I am so happy that we got to do this.

The recommendations mentioned are linked below.

I hope you enjoy it and I am looking forward to your feedback.

Take care x
