Conversing at the scholarly party
Academic scholarship can sound dry and boring and removed from the lives of undergraduates. "Think of it as party," says Sara Scheib, UI Libraries' Head of Scholarly Impact, "where there are multiple conversations happening." Learn how scholars use articles to discuss their research, refine each others' ideas and add to the world's knowledge. We can all be part of the scholarly conversation at the academic party. Understanding how the conversation works and how scholars develop ideas allows undergraduates to process information more efficiently, save time by focusing on the important stuff and make their own contributions.

How undergrads boost their studies through the Libraries
Jenay Solomon specializes in helping undergraduates use the Libraries to enhance their studies. Jenay talks about the resources and services at the UI Libraries designed specifically for undergrads to help them navigate the process of researching a topic for a course assignment. She says her role as a librarian is to meet with students and engage in conversation that can guide them through the research process. Jenay's easy-going, conversant manner includes asking clarifying questions to help students find the essential idea upon which to base their research.
