Dr. Karen Eastman is serving as the Interim Dean of Math and Sciences at Chattanooga State Community College. In 2002, while Dr. Eastman was a practicing chiropractor she began her journey in higher education as an adjunct faculty member teaching Anatomy and Physiology. In 2004, Dr. Eastman became a full-time faculty member working her way to a fully promoted and tenured Professor in the Life Sciences Department. She has subsequently taken on more leadership roles over the past 19 years, serving as Lead Teacher of A&P, Department Head of Life Sciences, TBR faculty subcouncil representative, Faculty Senate President and Interim Dean of Math and Sciences.
Karen has served on the board for a non-profit organization, MOMentum; volunteers with Hope4One and Flourish Foster Closets, the Tres Dias community and ChristWay Community Church. She and her husband, Chris, have been married for 10 years and are foster parents to 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl.
LEADING TRANSFORMATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION: Perspective from External Stakeholders
David Gregory, former Chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents, served with the Tennessee Board of Regents as the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Facilities Development for 20 years. As vice chancellor, Gregory oversaw government relations, institutional advancement and facilities development. In that role he spoke to the interests of TBR and its institutions as the key legislative liaison to the Tennessee General Assembly and represented the system to the executive branch of state government. A veteran public administrator, Gregory joined the TBR in May of 1998 after serving as director of government affairs for Blue Cross Blue Shield for three years. He held leadership positions in state government for 15 years prior, including terms as chief of staff for Governor Ned McWherter and chief of staff for Lieutenant Governor John Wilder. He is a graduate of Lipscomb University.
Maria Saab is a Senior Manager for Public Policy at Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s cloud computing business. Her portfolio is focused specifically on the Southeastern United States. Prior to working at Amazon Web Services Maria served as a Senior Policy Analyst at Deloitte. Maria holds a J.D. from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, and received her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies at Virginia Tech.

LEADING TRANSFORMATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION: Perspective from Student Affairs Professionals
Dr. Michael Stokes has served as the Vice President of Student Services at Cleveland State Community College since 2006. Prior to assuming his role as vice president, Dr. Stokes had worked in a variety of student affairs roles at Cleveland State since 1992. With 36 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Stokes also has experience in admissions, student affairs administration, and student life at two-year colleges and universities in Georgia and North Carolina. As one the longest serving Tennessee Senior Student Affairs Officers, Dr. Stokes has participated in system-wide efforts on college completion, was actively involved in Cleveland State’s full-scale adoption of Guided Pathways. In 2020, Dr. Stokes was honored by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society with the Distinguished College Administrator award.
Stephen Thomas currently serves as Director of Student Life at Dyersburg State Community College. As a new student affairs professional, he has served in this role for five years, but has previous as a Teachers Aide for Dyersburg High School. Stephen has participated in system-wide efforts related to student government and leadership training and is actively engaged as a volunteer with his church. Stephen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin.

LEADING TRANSFORMATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION: A Presidential Perspective
Dr. Anthony Wise Jr. has served as President of Pellissippi State Community College since July 1, 2011. In the 12 years prior to assuming the position as President. Dr. Wise held a variety of academic roles at Pellissippi including vice president of academic and student affairs, vice president of learning, Dean of the Liberal Arts Department, and faculty member. Now in his 23rd year at Pellissippi State, Dr. Wise also serves on several national boards like the National Alliance of Community and Technical Colleges, the Southern Regional Education Board, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Locally, he also has served on the boards of the Great Schools Partnership, Project GRAD, and Knoxville Chamber among others. Dr. Wise earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Brian Noland has served as the ninth president of East Tennessee State University since January 2012. Prior to assuming the presidency, Dr. Noland served for six years as the Chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and has held a variety of positions at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. President Noland has guided the long-term visioning processes for many initiatives at the university as well as the creation of a decentralized budget structure that aligns strategic planning and budgeting. He is a board member for the American Council on Education, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Ballad Health, and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Dr. Noland earned a PhD in political science from the University of Tennessee.
