Making Successful and Powerful Transitions in Midlife

Getting Fit, Safely and Effectively After 40
There are those people who think that "going hard" is the only way to get in shape effectively.  That might be true for some people, but for women over 40, this is not necessarily the case.  Surprisingly, studies have shown that getting in shape after 40 is less about "going hard" but more about low-impact movement and strength training with consistency.   My guest Shannon Patterson talks specifically about this and gives some great guidance about what we should be thinking about when we make a decision to start working out after 40 ... especially if it has been a long time since you have worked out.  Shannon is the founder of two businesses focused on Empowering Women.   Live Your Truth Women coaching, elevating women’s self-confidence by developing self-awareness & self-acceptance.  She is also the founder of ACHIEVE Multisport Coaching & Personal Training, helping clients achieve health & fitness goals.  Shannon says the only way to truly feel your best is to strengthen both your mind and your body.  That when you do, you are limitless!  Other fun facts… Shannon is a 3X Ironman World Championship triathlete, 43X Marathoner, just remarried at age 48, has 2 fur babies (yorkies), and proudly identifies as a Confidence Crusader, Sisterhood Creator, Life Learner, and Love Radiator. It's important to find a movement that you enjoy doing so that it does become a part of your regular regimen.  Chose a workout plan that strengthens your core, which will help with better posture and stronger joints.  Go for the 10% rule and increase your activities ( walking, strength training, swimming, etc) by about 10% a week. Everything Is Right About You - A Movement Whose Time Has Come
You never know when your "ah-ha" moment might come. It comes when you least expect it, and when the moment comes you are always surprised by the source.   In Dr. Jill Kahn's case, the "ah-ha" moment came in a Clubhouse Room.  Clubhouse is an audio platform, that gives you the opportunity to listen to people's points of view from all over the world.  One of the people in the room was sharing about a tough day that he had.  Dr. Jill found her saying to him even though he had a tough day she told him "Everything is right about you".  The energy of the person who was speaking changed, in fact, the entire energy of the room shifted.  And...there it was the "ah-ha" moment.  Just like that! V.I.B.E. Living Podcast: Episode 3-- Surviving Virus Freak Out
It’s hard to believe that a few months ago my life looked totally different. I was preparing to go on a trip to Costa Rica with a wonderful group of women.  We were on our way to the Wellness Woman 40 and Beyond Self-Care/Self Love Retreat.  A retreat I have been planning for over a year.  My whole goal for this retreat was to give the women a once in a lifetime experience of self-care and self-love.  We were going to do yoga, hiking, ziplining, horseback riding, meditation, heal our souls through essential oils, eat organically, and really spend time discovering who we are as mid-life women.  As one of the participants said, we were going to be “Queenagers” Imagine how it felt to find out that instead of having a beautiful time in Costa Rica getting in touch with my inner self, spending time relaxing and enjoying the beauties of Costa Rica, that I would instead be isolated, spending time in my home, away from my daughter, friends, and other families.  Also, having to be cautious about doing the simplest of activities like going to the store, post office, or even a walk around the block.  What a paradigm shift! I also realized that while we are all trying to stay uplifted, encouraged, and motivated to get through this time, the reality is that many of us have experienced anxiety, stress, and depression. In this episode, I share some information that will help you deal with these feelings so that you can continue to move forward as we work on overcoming these chaotic times.
