#060 Creating a Winning Storytelling Formula
By crafting compelling narratives that resonate with the emotions and experiences of your target audience, you can create a lasting impression and build a loyal customer base.
Section 1: The Problem
Every great story begins with a problem. It's the challenge or pain point that your audience is facing. Your audience should immediately recognize and connect with the struggle, which will pique their interest and captivate their attention. Remember, the problem should be relevant to your audience's needs or aspirations.
Section 2: The Emotional Rollercoaster
A successful story takes your audience on an emotional journey. It's essential to portray the highs and lows of the problem, allowing your audience to empathize with the characters and feel a personal connection. By tapping into their emotions, you can create a deeper engagement and make your story memorable. Allow your audience to experience the frustration, fear, or desperation that the characters are feeling, as well as the hope or relief that comes with a potential solution.
Section 3: The Solution
After taking your audience on an emotional rollercoaster, it's time to introduce the solution. This is where you showcase your role as the service provider and how you can address the problem. Clearly communicate how you can help your audience overcome their challenges and achieve their goals.
Section 4: Conclusion and Call to Action
In the conclusion of your story, wrap up the narrative by reinforcing the positive outcome or transformation that your solution brings. Finally, provide a clear call to action, directing your audience to take the next step, whether it's visiting your website, contacting you for a consultation, or subscribing to your newsletter.
Make it easy for them to engage with your brand.
Summary
Storytelling is a powerful marketing tool that can differentiate your brand, engage your audience, and drive them to action. By following this storytelling formula, you can craft narratives that resonate with your target audience and leave a lasting impression. Remember to identify the problem, take your audience on an emotional rollercoaster, highlight the solution you provide, and conclude with a compelling call to action. Incorporate this formula into your marketing strategies, and watch as your storytelling muscle strengthens, driving your business towards success.

#051 Leveraging Speaking Opportunities: Part 1
In this series of episodes we cover Speaking Engagements. Here are a few take-aways from the first episode in the series:
- Grab the audience's attention with a powerful quote or statistic related to the impact your topic can have on your target audience. Start with a BANG! That gets their attention. This could be a story, a stat, a funny example, an epic fail, etc.
- Introduce the topic by highlighting the importance of what you’re speaking on and how a lack of this can create a situation your audience does not want to be in.
EX: When you don’t have an effective communication strategy you are literally throwing content against the wall and praying something will stick. You are wasting time and money, 2 resources that once they are gone, you can’t get them back!
- When you correctly leverage speaking opportunities, business owners can enhance their personal brand, establish credibility, and unlock new business opportunities.
- Define the audience: Identify the target audience for speaking engagements and why it is crucial to tailor your message to their needs and interests.
- Identifying the right platforms: Research various types of speaking opportunities, such as conferences, industry events, webinars, and podcasts, and how to select the most suitable ones for your goals.
- Captivating the audience: Explore techniques for engaging the audience through dynamic delivery, powerful body language, and effective use of audiovisual aids.

#050 Communications Strategies: The Sandwich Method
This episode is about Communications Strategies from an internal perspective. Giving feedback is an important part of any internal communication strategy and as a business owner you need to have a few tools in the tool bag.
This is NOT a one size fits all situation. You need to have different methods of communicating at your disposal. Today we focused on the sandwich method. It’s not right for all situations or for all people. You have to know when to use it, who to use itr with,a nd most importantly, you have to know when NOT to use it. Here are a few tips I found useful about this method:
Pros:
1. Maintains a positive tone: By sandwiching the criticism between positive comments, you create a more balanced and supportive environment, which can make the feedback easier to accept.
2. Encourages receptiveness: The positive comments at the beginning and end can help the recipient feel more open and receptive to the constructive criticism in the middle.
3. Motivates improvement: By focusing on both strengths and areas for improvement, the sandwich approach can motivate individuals to work on their weaknesses while leveraging their strengths.
Cons:
1. May dilute the message: Some argue that the sandwich method can dilute the impact of the constructive criticism. The recipient may focus more on the positive comments and not fully grasp the seriousness of the issue being addressed.
2. Can come across as insincere: If the positive comments feel forced or insincere, the recipient may perceive the feedback as disingenuous and may not take it seriously.
3. May create confusion: Sandwiching the criticism between positive comments can sometimes confuse the recipient, as they may not fully understand the seriousness of the issue or the urgency to address it.
Find the method that works for the situation and the team member you are wanting to give feedback to.

#047 How to Be A Great Boss
In this episode I share some insights I gained along the way on how to be a great boss. This is a moving target. I hope that I am always improving in everything that I do. As a small business owner who is in a growth stage, I see several entrepreneurs struggle with this very topic, so I thought I'd share my experiences and a bit of what I learned along the way.
Being the boss is never easy, there are always tough decisions to make and you become the accountability 'police'. This is another thing that makes entrepreneurship a lonely place to be. #042 Using Press Releases to Promote Your Business: An Interview with Mickie Kennedy
Today we’re talking with my friend Mickie Kennedy about navigating the media for the benefit of your small business.
Mickie Kennedy is an expert at helping small businesses, authors, and startups increase their visibility and credibility. 24 years ago, Mickie founded eReleases after realizing that small businesses desperately need a press release service they can afford. Mickie created eReleases to give small businesses access to the media and to a national newswire – all with a personal touch.
#041 Credibility Marketing
In this episode we talked about Credibility Marketing.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CREDIBLE?
To first understand what is credible, we can understand what is not credible. It is not credible to pay someone to talk about our brand in most cases.
“If you pay a lot of money to have a famous person talk about how Don Miller is the best person in the world who has written the best book in the world, that’s not real. Real credibility is putting it in the hands of the customer, of the client, of people you’ve worked with, who don’t have a financial incentive to say nice things about your book, and who have really experienced your services or worked with you.
Business owners should find customers who love the brand enough to write a review or testimonial simply because they want to. All you have to do is ask them. The person who does not have bias (is not paid or incentivized) is going to be perceived as being much more credible. To be credible, we have to be honest and real.
Some other great credibility-marketing tactics include:
Endorsement quotes by industry influencers and customers
Customer case studies or customer logos on your website
Publishing of white papers with valued content
Sponsorship of industry events or surveys
Product and company awards
Participation on panels at industry events
- Membership/activity in key industry professional organizations

#038 Are Networking Groups Worth the Effort?
This episode is all about networking and how it can help you grow your business. Here are some of the high points about joining a networking group and how they help you grow your business.

#028 The Buying Process, Part 3
As a marketer my job is to help my clients guide their customers through the buying process. Some people could think this is completely random, but I am here to tell you there is a formula. And when used correctly, l can help my clients see immediate and measurable results in their conversions and ultimately their sales.
Today I want to walk you through this formula and really hone in on one component of the formula.
Step One: Identify the problem
Before a customer is ready to think about a purchase they need to have a legitimate reason for the purchase. Or they want to be at point D, but they are stuck at point B, and they have no idea how to get themselves to point D. THIS IS THE PROBLEM YOU ARE GOING TO SOLVE.
Ask questions of your ideal client community:
- Where do you want your company in the next 6 months?
- Secure the IP my company owns
- Larger office space for a growing team
- What are 3 obstacles preventing you from achieving this?
- What are your sales goals, new client contract goals, etc for X timeframe?
Step Two: The Information Search
The next component in the formula is INFORMATION. My job is to position my client as an authority on the subject. Take steps to establish yourself as an authority in this field. Set yourself up to be the ‘go to’ person in your industry. Create awesome and engaging content that makes your audience smarter!!
Step Three: Detail Your Unique Selling Proposition
Lay a foundation of why your service or product is better. Or why your potential customers need to buy from you. What makes YOU unique. Set yourself apart from the competition, to the extent your industry allows.
Step Four: The Purchase Decision
Send encouragement to your potential clients. Give them assurance they are making a solid decision. Do this by sharing testimonials from some of your best clients! And you have to ask for the testimonials to get them.
Also, this is a time to pay particular attention to people who abandon carts, delayed in paying a depositor signing a contract. You send them an email reminder, make a phone call. Reinforce why you or your company is the best choice.
The next steps in the buying process are about the actual purchase decision, the purchase experience, and the post purchase follow up. Our time won’t allow for us to dive into this, but you can tune into my podcast to hear my tips on these steps in the process.
Step Five: The Actual purchase.
Make sure the process of making the purchase is simple and easy.do they pay online, by check, or cash. Make sure your system of invoicing is easy and appropriately branded.
Step Six: Post Purchase Follow up
Did the customer have a great experience? Ask them for a review. Offer them information about other products and services you offer that they may be interested in. Offer discounts for additional purchases. Main point, if they had a good experience with you or found a good value in working with you, invite back into your sales cycle.

#025 Control The Narrative
So here’s the challenge for you
- I want you to find the link to our FB group, Marketing Backed By Data. Once you get to the group, I want you to finish the statement, “I am someone who…..” This is YOUR narrative!! Copy this down on a sticky note on your computer or on your notes app on your phone. Go back as often as you need to say it out loud.
- I want you to next find a post from some one and encourage them in the comments on their post to the group.
- The next thing I want you to do is, invest in yourself. Buy a book, hire a business coach, or buy a training course

#024 Community Connections
Be sure to follow up with interesting people you come in contact with!
Be bold and ask them to join you for a cup of coffee one day. There is soooo much value in connecting with people in a comfortable and casual environment. This is truly an opportunity to get to know the other person. Ask them questions like:
- How did you get started in your business?
- How long have you been in this industry
- Is there anyone you are wanting to meet / connect with?
- Tell me what excites you most about your business!
As you are getting ready to add this to your monthly business growth routine, here are 3 things you should do:
- Write out a base email introducing yourself and asking to meet with them. Include why you are interested in meeting with them. Don’t be salse-y
- Make a list of the people you would like to meet with and add them to a spreadsheet.
- Add a simple graphic to the header of the email that has a picture of you.
- Include a link that makes it easy for people to schedule a meeting with you
- Just for kicks, be prepared to buy them their cup of coffee 😊 ☕️.
Thanks for listening today. Tell a friend about this podcast, and leave us a 5 star review, (if you think we did a good job, of course!)
