Some of the key highlights of the electricity sector in the new Act include: - incorporation of integrated energy planning - re-establishment and empowerment of energy entities (Eg. Rural Electrification Authority to Rural Electrification and Renewable Corporation) - activation of the feed-in-tariff system to promote the uptake of renewables - establishment of an electricity market - opening up of the sector to private players (with rules limiting vertical integration) - open access in the transmission and distribution system - adoption of minimum energy performance standards (MEPSs) to promote energy efficiency
