Gifted to Serve
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote discusses how there are lots of great causes and important ministries, but no one can do all of them. Our gifts and the help of our community can help us discern the paths of service to take. 1 Peter 4:10-11 is one lens to help us choose how and where to serve.

Easter and Embodiment
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote considers how Easter includes good news for our bodies.
These words from John 20:27 are among the texts he considers to help make this point: "Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”"

Curiosity and Witness
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote looks back at his first job and considers how a healthy curiosity about others can be a gateway to prayer and witness. He connects this to the following statement from the ACNA catechism, particularly the lines about witness and service:
Q: How do you live in God’s kingdom?
As a citizen of God’s kingdom, I am called to live in obedience to
God’s Word and will, in loving witness and service to others, and
in joyful hope of Christ’s return.

"He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end."

Remembering the Plot
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote considers the words of Jesus and how they serve as a reminder that confusion and bewilderment are not the final word. There is much evidence that may suggest that the big story ends with distress and conflict, but Jesus has other ideas.
The section of Scripture for this episode is found in John 16:33, particularly the words "...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote considers familiar language about Jesus and Mary in the Apostle's Creed and uses that as an opportunity to look at some obvious things in life. This is a great opportunity for gratitude.

Taking It Slow
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote uses James 1:19 as a window into a brief reflection on taking more time before sharing his opinions and views. Views and opinions should be shared, but Dr. Bacote knows his sometimes should spend more time baking in the oven before being brought to others.

Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. You can find the historical review here: https://www.wheaton.edu/historical-review-task-force-final-report/
This month, our doctrinal statement is about sanctification and comes from the National Baptist Convention, with a particular emphasis on these words:
"....that it is a progressive work; that it is begun in regeneration; and that it is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, the Sealer and Comforter, in the continual use of the appointed means especially the word of God, self-examination, self-denial, watchfulness, and prayer."

"God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed."

Taking a Look at Scandal
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote considers what we do in the face of scandal and how the doctrine of sanctification is one lens that can help us have a version of "Christian realism" that is both honest and hopeful.
This month's statement of doctrine comes from the National Baptist Convention, USA:
"We believe the Scriptures teach that Sanctification is the process by which, according to the will of God, we are made partakers of his holiness; that it is a progressive work; that it is begun in regeneration; and that it is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, the Sealer and Comforter, in the continual use of the appointed means especially the word of God, self-examination, self-denial, watchfulness, and prayer."

Focusing Anew on Easter
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote invites us to look again at what is often overly familiar to us at Easter: the cross of Christ and His resurrection. Christ's great suffering and the resurrection's great victory can help us be the most realistic and most hopeful people in a world where we encounter tragedy and horror.
Here are the excerpts from the Evangelical Free Church of America Statement of Faith:
"He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate."
"His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation."

Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote discusses looking at the world in light of the truth about human sinfulness.
The statement of doctrine in today's episode comes from the catechism of the Anglican Church in North America:
"How does sin affect you?
Sin alienates me from God, my neighbor, God’s good creation,
and myself. Apart from Christ, I am hopeless, guilty, lost, helpless,
and walking in the way of death.
(Genesis 3:14–19; Psalm 38; Isaiah
53:6; 59:1–2; Romans 6:20–23)"

The Politics of Christmas
Welcome to THE LINK - Bridging Faith and Life with Dr. Vincent Bacote! Every month, Dr. Bacote will introduce listeners to ways they can build connections between faith and life in their ministries and personal lives. This month, Dr. Bacote discusses how the Nicene Creed helps show us that we cannot escape politics. Christmas is "inescapably political."
Here's the section of the Nicene Creed quoted in the episode with the featured phrases in bold:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.
Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

Here's Converge Worldwide's statement mentioned in the show:
Christian Conduct
We believe that Christians should live for the glory of God and the well-being of others; that their conduct should be blameless before the world; that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions; and that they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in Christ.
