PICK UP YOUR CROWN, GIRL!
Coach Naja has a realizarion. After 10 years of being adjacent to a HCBM and an overall unfulfilling stepmotherhood experience, one's spirit can get infected and you all of a sudden realize that you don't like who you've had to become. That STOPS TODAY!" In the PICK UP YOUR CROWN Series, we will be discovering ways to redefine and rediscover our innate selves and get back to WHO we used to be before (all of this messy mess). Let the recovery begin!
This is HOW you give yourself permission to STEP away
Coach Naja explores the benefits and drawbacks of learning how to center yourself when the blended family conflict gets to be too much. Mom and stepmom guilt can run rampant and it can really be tough on your psyche, your relationship, and your whole life. In this episode, we explore ways to give ourselves permission to step back from drama AND how to let your loved ones know that you need a break.
Ask Naja: My partner still vacations with BM and she refuses to meet me!
One of our fellow Stepsistas is having a bit of a conundrum. Her partner of 3 years can't seem to shake his ex-wife. The ex wants her family back but this boyfriend that's playing both sides has assured our sis that he only has eyes for her! What about High Conflict BioDads?
We have many Stepmoms that are biological mothers. And while you deal with an HCBM, many may also deal with undesirable coparenting situations. High conflict biodads are a very real thing and today Coach Naja is breaking down the similarities, the differences, and how to handle an HCBD.
How to HANDLE parentified stepkids (the VIP way!)
Coach Naja discusses child the two types of parentification: instrumental and emotional. Instrumental parentification includes functional responsibilities and physical tasks given to a child that isn’t age-appropriate. Emotional parentification is when one or both parents turn to their child to fulfill their emotional needs. This is considered the more problematic and damaging type of parentification.
She also teaches some best practices and techniques to handle interactions with your parentified child. It is tough coparenting with someone who relies on your child to become their partner. This foul form of manipulation is common for disordered parents to inflict on their children. If you think your child is being parentified, THIS episode is for you!

Vipod 24: Should You Tell Your Stepkids Their Mom is Bad?
Stepmoms that have to deal with high conflict biomoms often feel the need to vindicate their positions and expose the "truth" to their stepkids. The problem lies in the fact that our own personal experiences with these women do not often mirror our stepkid's experiences with their mothers. In this month's VIPod, Coach Naja discusses common challenges for stepmoms who want to help their stepkids "see the light".

When your partner's stuff becomes TOO much
We tend to take on our partner's "stuff" because we love them and we want to see them happy. As stepmoms, the utter helpless feeling of servitude can cause resentment and make you feel outright tired! As Coach Naja (respectfully) compares a Caregiver's role to your role as a Stepmom, you will begin to reframe your perspective.
Vipod: Naja explains EXACTLY how to be an unbothered stepmom
Naja frequently mentions being an unbothered stepmom. In this episode, she breakdown how to go from frazzled to unbothered. The process does not have to be long or arduous but it does take a serious commitment. Grab a pen and paper and prepare to have that heavy weight lifted off your shoulders.

Coach Naja delves into the cosmos and uncovers why certain stepmoms cannot overcome distractions from blended family drama. VIPod 015: How To Help Your Partner Battle Alienation
Parental alienation is something that most blended families will experience at some point. It can extremely intentional or passive. Either way, when a parent tries to negatively influence a child's relationship with their other parent (or the parent's partner and kids), it can not only be detrimental to the parent/child relationship, but the child is left to sift through years of brokenness, resent, and untruths. This month's episode tackles alienation from the stepmom perspective and how we can arm ourselves, our families, and our partners to deal with its' unfortunate effects.

VIPod #12: Girl, You DON'T have to marry him!!!
I recently chatted with one of my mentors and he said, "Ya know young lady, the problem is a lot of people are married to one another that shouldn't be." That was the realest sh*t ever because it's so painfully true. A lot of stepmoms have found themselves in love with a man, so she'll make concessions for all of his "baggage". Ultimately they're hindering their ability to feel truly free and happy. The fact of the matter is, being in a blended family is NOT for everyone. This episode explores ways to determine if you're in it for the long hall or if you pack your bags and tread toward greener pastures. It may hurt to walk away now, but joy cometh in the morning.

4 million women in the US will feel SAD for the Holidays (Stepmom Anxiety Disorder)
The holiday season is usually an exciting time for many Americans. While most are preparing to spend quality time with their loved ones, there is one particular group that is already starting to feel the pangs of frustration, isolation, and depression. There are roughly 4 million stepmothers in this country and 62% express emotional distress because of their roles. Even women in ideal blended family situations can feel uneasy because of shared custody schedules, uncooperative coparents, and financial hardships brought on by holiday spending.
While SAD (Stepmom Anxiety Disorder) is not an official diagnosis, as a Master Stepfamily Coach and a stepmom, I can personally attest that there are feelings that are particularly unique to the stepmothering experience. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health concern in the United States, in fact, an estimated 40 million adults in the U.S. (18%) have an anxiety disorder. General Anxiety Disorder or GAD produces chronic, exaggerated worrying about everyday life. This worrying can consume hours each day, making it hard to concentrate or finish daily tasks. A person with GAD may become exhausted by worry and experience headaches, tension or nausea. The sheer emotional strain attached to being a stepmother is something that many women are ill-equipped to handle in a healthy manner. A lucky few manage to find ways to thrive, but others develop unhealthy thought patterns, recurring feelings of dread and repressed frustrations that ultimately lead to breakdowns in relationships and mental well-being.

03: *New ways to bond with difficult stepkids w/Kirsten Cobabe
I chatted with The Teenager Whisperer, Kirsten Cobabe for my public podcast, “I know I’m crazy.” After we wrapped up the public portion, she and I broke away to discuss stepmom specific tactics. She has a very unorthodox way of dealing with teenagers and I think this will help many of us understand the positions of our stepchildren. Aside from being a therapist, Kirsten was also a stepchild!
