Dont Panic about Anxiety - CBT with Dr. Paul Deasy
Dr Paul Deasy, local GP with a Masters in CBT introduced us to the idea of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for dealing with mental health problems like Anxiety. It was one of our most popular talks of the year and with good reason. He covers both how it can be used personally and with patients. The podcast will leave you feeling calmed soothed, and well informed!
The Welfare Officer also mentions a resource for CBT available through UCC called participate - find it here!: https://ucc.participateonline.net/
Recorded 6th November 2019
What I Wish My Doctor Knew - 28th January 2020
This event was a first for Medsoc, but due to its success will hopefully become a regular occurrence. We invited speakers organised by 5 different societies to share their experiences with healthcare, and also to speak about what they wish Doctors knew.
The speeches are powerful, there are pearls of wisdom throughout for consultations, and it's a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Perfect when you're stuck on your own somewhere for placement. Give it a listen!
The speakers are as follows
Cancer Soc - Claire Herlihy, former patient of Arc House
Failté Refugees- Naomi Masheti - UCC PhD graduate who has researched African migrant children in Ireland, their psychosocial wellbeing, access to support services. Also a leading figure of the Cork Migrant Centre.
Disability Activism and Awareness - Siobhán Lee from their committee - living with Autism, ADHD and dyspraxia.
Students for Sensible Drug PolicyS - Róisín Hussey - from their committee. Recovering addict and experience with addiction services.
LGBT Soc - Will Kennedy living with HIV and working with the Cork support group.
