Creating Black Archives w/ Dr Vanley Burke
Today we have a very special guest Doctor Vanley Burke. Dubbed the godfather of Black British Photography, he started documenting the lives of Handsworth residents since the 60s and his archive, which contains not only photos but also objects giving context to the Black experience, became so substantial that it is largely housed in Birmingham’s Central Library. An exhibition in 2015 at Birmingham’s Ikon Gallery transported his entire home into the gallery and became one of the most successful exhibition in the galleries history.

Representaton of Black Queer bodies w/ Jon Ward
Today we welcome Dr Jon Ward! He has taught at the University of East Anglia, the University of Hertfordshire, the University of Westminster, and Oxford Brookes University, he is currently a Lecturer in American Literature.
He received a PhD in American Studies from UEA in 2016, after having studied an MA in Gender, Sexuality & Culture at the University of Manchester, and a BA in American Studies at UEA.

Dismantling white supermacy, one statue at a time w/ Alison Lowe
Alison Natalie Kay Lowe is a British Labour politician. She was the first black woman Leeds City Councillor, serving from 1990 to 2019, and has served as the Chief Executive of Touchstone, a mental health charity based in Leeds, since 2004.
Lowe won the 2014 Forward Business Woman of the Year award and Stonewall Senior Champion of the Year in 2015.
