On this week’s episode, our host Saya’Ka chats with artist Renike. Renike is a Nigerian visual artist, who has a background in graphic design. Most of her works now focus on illustration & traditional art including watercolor, charcoal, and acrylic paintings. Today’s discussion revolves around colorism in Nigeria, the US, and online as well as the nostalgia and significance of protective styles and how Renike’s experience is transpired through her work.

On this week’s episode, our Host Saya’Ka chats with Artist and Founder Jackie Liu. Jackie is an acrylic painter from West Massachusetts and runs a non-profit called Colors of Care. “Colors of Care is a nonprofit organization that uses art to deliver love and support to those in emotional need. The organization creates and shares original coloring pages for free, aiming to evoke artistic creativity in individuals, and encourage the discovery of joy and positivity through art.”

On this week’s episode, our host Saya’Ka catches up with Shahaadah Morell, who has showcased with WRF in our first virtual event back in November 2020. Shahaadah is a multidisciplinary visual artist who is often spiritually driven to create. Shahaadah’s artwork, mainly consisting of narrative self-portraits, reveals self-reflective themes, and encourages collective and generational healing. Today, the conversation revolves around self-reflection, learning through negativity, and growth.

In this episode, we wanted to share with you a workshop we did during our first virtual event in November 2020. A workshop on the topic of investing in joy. We know how much mental health correlates with not only art but every aspect of life. In this episode, Emanie White-Heard and Labrea Pringle, talk about investing in joy, imposter syndrome, and why and where holding ourselves back may stem from. This conversation is timeless but it’s even more relevant now because after all, we’ve been through in the past year, the past 4 years, the past generations, we need to make sure that we’re still investing in joy. I ask you to open up your mind a little bit, think about how these topics relate to you in your life today. There’s an activity at the beginning that you can take part in as you listen that is very grounding.
