#23 - The 10-Year Journey to 100 Miles at World's Toughest Mudder | Hunter Holbrook

Join me as I sit down with OCR veteran Hunter Holbrook to unpack his incredible 10-year evolution in endurance sports. From struggling to complete 30 miles at his first World's Toughest Mudder to conquering 100 miles in 2024, Hunter’s journey is a testament to grit, resilience, and the power of mindset.

We dive into:

The ups and downs of his progression: 30 ➡️ 50 ➡️ 75 miles and the setbacks in between.

Overcoming years of DNFs and developing the mental strength to match his physical ability.

Bouncing back from a devastating Achilles injury that derailed his 2023 goal.

The role of his father as a constant supporter in the pit through every race.

The training, mindset, and purpose it takes to excel in OCR and endurance sports.

Hunter’s story is a powerful reminder that the journey is often more meaningful than the destination. Whether you're an athlete, an OCR enthusiast, or simply chasing your own goals, this episode is packed with inspiration.

#20 - Through The Fire | The Story of Nick Klingensmith

#20 - Through The Fire | The Story of Nick Klingensmith

After being thrown out of a Las Vegas hotel in a drunken haze, jeopardizing his career and relationships, Nick Klingensmith had to make a change. A 4-time cancer survivor, type-1 diabetic, recovering alcoholic with 4 herniated discs, nerve damage and sleep apnea, he defies it all when he finds Obstacle Course Racing.

Refusing to accept his circumstances, he finishes numerous obstacle races, the Boston and Chicago Marathons, and the Spartan Ultra, culminating in 127 miles of endurance racing in 6 weeks.

This isn’t just a story about a drunk, diabetic cancer patient who overcomes adversity to become a mediocre, middle-aged athlete. His story focuses less on physical achievements and more on his mental and spiritual approach to overcoming life’s challenges.

Nick is a raw and passionate storyteller who holds nothing back when revealing who he used to be and the person he is now. The circumstances he faces show others that they are not alone, and that they too can defy their limitations.

If you were inspired by this story, Add his book called "Through The Fire" on Amazon. You won't regret it.

Married to his incredible wife Lindsay, and proud dad to their nearly 2-year-old son Anthony, Joe’s story is one of transformation. #16 - Chasing Down 100 Miles at WTM 2024 | Scotty Campbell

#16 - Chasing Down 100 Miles at WTM 2024 | Scotty Campbell

In 2019, Scotty completed World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM) with 60 miles and knew he wanted to return someday with a goal of reaching 100 miles. He didn’t compete in WTM in 2021 or 2022 due to having two young kids, but in 2023, he decided it was time for a comeback. After watching DJ Fox win in 2022, Scotty heard a podcast mentioning DJ’s coaching services and brought on the world champ as his coach.

Over the past two years, Scotty has grown tremendously as both an athlete and a person. In 2023, Scotty had a successful year of ultra running, going into WTM aiming for 100 miles and coming away with 80 miles. The hard work he put in, along with meeting Christian Brown Johnson, opened up the opportunity to compete with them in Saudi Arabia earlier in the year.2024 has been a strong year of training for Scotty.

While he almost considered pulling out of WTM, the support of his family and DJ Fox agreeing to crew for him kept him all-in for the past four months. With massive training volume behind him, Scotty is going after that 100 miles and the coveted orange jacket.

#11 - 2x Worlds Toughest Mudder Champion & Ultra Endurance Athlete | Kris Rugloski

#11 - 2x Worlds Toughest Mudder Champion & Ultra Endurance Athlete | Kris Rugloski

Kris was a ton of fun to have on the podcast. She is so humble, driven, and passionate about what she does in OCR and the endurance world. Kris is a 2x Worlds Toughest Mudder Champion and was the first women to complete 100 miles. She's also competed at a high level in Tough Mudder, Spartan, Savage, Hydrox, 100ks, Grid Games, 100 milers and many more. The crazy part is that she is only 27 years old!
What you may not know, is that this didn't come easy to Kris. She didn't grow up in sports or with a mindset that anything with possible. She learned this by doing. She started to compete at the age of 19 and didn't feel like she had the confidence to really compete with everyone. What she did though, is stuck with it and put in the work. I bring this up because everyone starts at ground zero. No one is special. You just have to get started and show yourself what is possible.

I hope you enjoy this podcast! If you do please subscribe and give it a follow!

I had an awesome time with Lu Gomes on the podcast. This is our 3rd or 4th time taking on it. Lu and I go back 8 years where we met at Springfield College and connected from day one. I always say this but, you can’t help but be drawn to Lu’s positivity and energy.

Lu has accomplished so much over the years, from finishing his Bachelor’s in Health Education, Masters in Health Promotion, running his first 10k race, to going 0-27 in wrestling and Jujitsu to winning his last 2 matches. This just shows Lu's determination The wild part of this is that Lu has accomplished this with being born with Cerebral Palsy which for him is something that he has never used as an excuse been to why he can’t accomplish something.

In the podcast we discuss the importance of building a team around you to help you, support you, and push you to be better, the importance of having a positive mindset and focusing on what YOU can control, the ability to push yourself physically and mentally to see what your capable of and so much more.

#4 - Finding Your Limit, Going All In, Doing What You Love, | DJ Fox

DJ Fox is an amazing athlete with an incredible mindset. DJ won The Worlds Toughest Mudder in 2022 and came in 3rd in The Worlds Toughest Mudder in 2021. For those that don't know, this race is a 24 hour endurance obstacle course race. In 2023, DJ attempted to break a world record on the Colorado Trail, which is a 485 mile trail with over 90,000 feet of elevation gain. The current record he was trying to break was 7 days and 14 hours. In the attempt to break the record, DJ had to bow out after 425 miles of battling a bad foot and ankle injury, and major fluid build up in his lungs. The amazing part of this is that Dj is going to be coming back to break this record in 2024.

DJ's next goal is going to be a Toughest Mudder in Saudi Arabia on February 26th in 2024, which is a 8 hour race where you accumulate as much milage as possible. This race has the largest prize pool in OCR history giving out over $480,000 dollars in price money and $80,000 to first place.

After having the chance to talk to DJ, I am so excited to follow his journey over the next year as he continues to push his limits in finding out what is possible not only physically but mentally.

If you want to follow DJ or reach out for coaching, you can find him on Instagram under dee_jay_fox

#3 - Mental Toughness, Facing Adversity, & Being Present | Brant Bahler

Brant Bahler is an amazing father and human that I met at Worlds Toughest Mudder 2023. Brant completed 90 miles, finishing 7th overall in a field of 700+ racers and to top it off, this was his first Worlds Toughest Mudder race. Brant competed in sports growing up and was a D1 pole-vaulter at the University of Indiana. This led him to challenge himself in triathlons, Ironman's, Spartan races that include Beasts and Ultras and finally, Worlds Toughest Mudder. I connected to Brant because of his positive and determined mindset and his story of what he faced in the past year. In 2023, Brant and his family lost several life long pets and his wife of 15 years, Karen after an 8 year battle with Breast Cancer….yet he continued to push himself mentally and physically to be an amazing father of his 3 kids, Hailey 18, Jackson 11, Leo 9, and continued to crush his goal of competing in Worlds Toughest Mudder. I highly recommend listening to this episode and hearing from someone that has had everything throw at him and yet continues to push forward with a positive outlook on life.

What’s Your Story? Episode #30 Kenny Vertus

Kenny and I met back at Fitness Together in 2016. From day one, I saw that Kenny had a passion for coaching and helping people. Growing up Kenny wasn’t your typical athlete. What's Your Story? Episode #29 Isaiah Hoyt

What's Your Story? Episode #29 Isaiah Hoyt

It was so nice catching up with my friend Isaiah. We met back when we both were competing in bodybuilding. We competed against each other in the same show back in 2016 and also were both working at Equinox at that time. Isaiah is someone that has always had a passion for fitness and truly got into it for the right reason. As he became a coach you could tell how much he loved helping people reach their own personal goals. As the years went on, Isaiah realized he wanted to go slightly in a different direction and became a Children's Ministry Leader and is directly impacting so many kids lives on a day to day basis. Isaiah is also a rapper and writer. He even opened up for Post Malone and Loyd Banks at one point! To say the least Isaiah is a very motivated and inspiring person that I highly recommend following and getting to know!

What’s Your Story? Episode #28 Nick Stodolski

What’s Your Story? Episode #28 Nick Stodolski

I had a blast catching up with my friend Nick. I was always inspired by Nick because of his work ethic and his goal to the best coach he can be. Nick at a young age started to ride BMX and as the years went he turned pro. This is when Nick really started to find a passion for training. A lot of people wanted a car, Nick wanted training sessions. Any opportunity he got he was training to be better. As he continued to race he had a few bad injuries which were huge set backs for him. At the age of 23 he made the decision to stop riding and put his focus into going to school to be coach and work with all kinds of athletes.
Nick attended Springfield College and graduated with a Exercise Science Degree. He then interned with the Siena College, Brooklyn nets, EXOS, and was a Grad assistant at Merrimack college. Nick went on to work at Parsi Speed School, University of Maine Peak Fitness, EXOS, and now the Air Force. To say the least Nick is determined to learn as much as he can and help anyone he can.
Nick has an amazing story that I highly recommend listening to if you are looking for some inspiration and if you want to pursue working with athletes.

What's Your Story? Episode #27 Jack Pinho

What's Your Story? Episode #27 Jack Pinho

I want to thank my friend Jack Pinho for coming on the show. Jack is one of the most hard working people I know and it was amazing catching up with him. In this interview we did a deep dive into Jacks running career and the mindset it takes to do what he does. For those of you that don't know, Jack broke multiple Springfield College records from the Indoor 800M, Indoor 1000M, Indoor 1 Mile, Outdoor 800M, and Outdoor 1500M. He then went on to be a 2 time ALL AMERICAN! The crazy part of this is that he was a walk on. He wasn't recruited to run for Springfield. Jack simply put his head down, stayed humble and put in the work. I was lucky enough to be a fellow RA with him at Springfield and see him start his journey and running career. While at Springfield College Jack completed a Bachelors in Physical Education and a Masters in Athletic Administration. After graduating he still continues to run and is determined to break the 4:00 minute mile. In his last event he ran a 4:03 and I have no doubt he will break that 4 minute time. I highly recommend listening this this interview. We dive deep into the mindset it took to get to the point, the training, and so much more.   Here are Jacks records that still hold today at Springfield College.    5 x School Record Holder  Indoor 800M - 1:52.11  Indoor 1000M - 2:25.09  Indoor 1 Mile - 4:07.89  Outdoor 800M - 1:52.48  Outdoor 1500M - 3:47.90   2 x All-American - 1 Mile & 1500M    Cross Country -  2 x NEWMAC All-Conference  1 x All-New England

What's Your Story? Episode #26 Nikki Alliegro

What's Your Story? Episode #26 Nikki Alliegro

I had the pleasure of interviewing Nikki Alliegro this past week. She is someone that has really put her stamp in the fitness industry. Her story is amazing one that I think a lot of people can take a lot from. She was competitive at a young age and had a passion for sports. In college she pursued broadcasting and ended up getting a opportunity with Disney. After years of working with Disney Nikki decided to pursue a career in health and fitness. She took a opportunity at a high end gym called Equinox in Boston and learned a lot but realized that she wanted to work for herself and have her own business. Nikki went on to open her own gym which was aways a dream of hers. After a while of running the gym she decided that owning her own gym wasn't what she thought it was going to be. It was a very tough choice but she decided to close the gym and focus on her coaching. It could of been a low point but she turned it into a high point. Nikki since then has built a very successful in person and online coaching buisness. She coaches her clients on lifestyle, general fitness, bodybuilding prep and athletics.
Nikki has also competed as a Pro Bikini Athlete, Wellness NPC Athlete, is an Author, and a Fitness Cover Model. She is a very motivating and inspiring women that is continuing to push her her self to be better everyday.
Here is a quote from Nikki. "I absolutely love what I do in helping people find their true happiness and health. My goal is to coach others to their best physique without them sacrificing seeing the world and spending time with loved ones."

What's Your Story? Episode #24 Alex Rachmaciej

What's Your Story? Episode #24 Alex Rachmaciej

I had a blast interviewing Alex and learned a lot about him. Alex was a shy kid that went through foster care and at one point was homeless. Simply said, he has over come so much in his life and continues to push himself to be better each day. As he entered high school he started to open up and played football. This was the beginning of his love for sports. Through sports he started to fall in love with working out and even talks about wanting to look like wolverine. As high school ended he continued to grow as a person and spontaneously decided to join the military. Shockingly enough it ended up being the perfect fit for him. After the military he decided to go to Springfield College which for him instantly felt like home. He then went on to join the track team and finish his degree at Springfield. During the years he switched his major a few times but after graduating found that he truly had a passion for coaching and that was the direction he wanted to go into. Alex now is pursuing his Masters Degree and continuing to push himself to be better everyday and doing it with a incredibly positive mindset. I highly recommend listening this podcast. It's truly inspiring.

What's Your Story? Episode #22 Jeff Moulton

What’s going on everyone! So, I switched it up for this interview and I told my story! It was a blast honestly to just reflect and talk about my journey and how it got me to where I am today.

I talk about how I got started into fitness and why it changed my life. I talk about my journey through school and how I balanced competing in bodybuilding. This leads me to graduating and moving to Boston which was a wild ride. From biking everywhere and working crazy hours and finally winning my pro card. I discuss my jobs out in Boston and what leads me back to Connecticut and where I am today.

It has been a wild ride with lots of challenges but the one thing that I truly believe is that my positivity and willingness to always be better has allowed me to keep moving forward and chase down my dreams.

What's Your Story? Episode #16 Jon Katz

It was really nice catching up with Jon this past week! Jon and I met back at Springfield College through our passion for bodybuilding. While being a freshman at SC Jon created a product which came to be know now as BlendiBlender. This idea stemmed from his love for bodybuilding. He found himself making a protein shake after each workout but always had trouble with your traditional shaker bottle. The protein powder would never mix smoothly but one day it clicked and Blendi was born. Jon graduated from Springfield College with a Business Degree and balances working full time and working on Blendi. He is someone that at a young age has already accomplished a lot. I urge you to give him a listen if you are someone that is looking to start your own company or is curious of what it takes to run your own business.

What's Your Story? Episode #13 Lu Gomes

What's Your Story? Episode #13 Lu Gomes

I have to say, this is one of my favorite humans I know. He has inspired me from day one. I met Lu at Springfield College back in 2015 and from the first day I met him he has been nothing but supportive and positive in every way possible. Lu was born with cerebral palsy but to him it is the norm and he wouldn't want you to look at him any differently Growing up he grew a passion for wrestling. In high school he became the team manager but he knew he was meant to be on the mat. He then made the choice to go to Springfield College which allowed him to further pursue his career and give him a chance to compete on the mat like he always wanted. Lu has competed in over 20 matches but has yet to get that win he has always wanted but if you ask him, your only going to hear him talk about his next match and that big win. You can't break this kid. I truly admire his mindset. He is beloved around that Springfield campus and everywhere he goes. Lu went on to study Health Education in his undergrad and then did a Masters in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. He is a inspiration for anyone and I cant wait to see what his future holds.

What’s Your Story? Episode #11 Mariana Denault

What’s Your Story? Episode #11 Mariana Denault

was super excited to have my cousin Mariana on the show. Mariana is someone I became very close to over the past 5 years. She is a Ace Certified Personal Training that coaches clients of all ages at Timeless Training. She also is the strength coach at Gymfest of the Berkshires where she works with gymnasts of all levels. She has an amazing story when it comes to overcoming her own internal demons. Marianna struggled with multiple eating disorders, depression and negative self talk. Which I think a lot of people can relate with. The best part of this story is that after hitting rock bottom she came back and is stronger then ever. She’s now coaching, motivating, inspiring and impacting so many people’s lives on a day to day basis. If you are someone that has struggled with a eating disorder or someone that struggles with something else in there life. I highly recommend giving this a listen.
