Domestic Violence Awareness Month PSA

Domestic Violence Awareness Month PSA

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we, here at Whispers in the Night want to help.

It’s time to speak up about domestic violence and abuse. It’s time raise awareness and support those of us who have survived or are fighting to survive it.

Though women are more commonly the recipients of domestic abuse, male victims are often overlooked.

And, isn’t *just* limited to physical abuse either.

Like, did you know 49% of all men have dealt with some sort of psychological aggression or emotional terrorism within their intimate relationships? 49% - that’s pretty much half!

Domestic abuse can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner.

These acts often happen during the life of a relationship but can also continue once one has ended.

This includes threats, blackmail, stalking, cyber stalking, or even withholding of finances or belongings.

These acts aren’t limited to just the abuser, either. Nearly 1/3 of abusers don’t act alone and have offenses carried out by friends, family members, and acquaintances.

This can leave many victims feeling defenseless, as though they have no support system to help them.

On a typical day there are just over 20,000 phone calls placed too domestic violence hotlines nationwide but that’s not enough.

It’s time to speak up.

It’s time to help the ones we love.

If you’re experiencing domestic violence or abuse, or you know somebody who is, reach out for help today.

Whispers in the Night Trailer

Whispers in the Night Trailer

What is the scariest story you’ve ever been told?

The scariest stories we know aren’t the ones we make up to frighten one another. They’re the ones that have a history to them.

And, in history, there’s truth.

The Midwest is full of these.

My name is Seng Phengdouangdeth. Whispers in the Night is a podcast that is devoted to exploring cases of the paranormal, the unexplained, and the things that terrify us most through fact, fiction, & folklore.

True Paranormal Story: The Devil in the Diner

True Paranormal Story: The Devil in the Diner

Tonight’s encounter was submitted by a listener of the show who wished to remain anonymous.

Have you ever heard of the "Devil in the Diner" phenomenon?

It’s an encounter that many have experienced and have been left with confusion or disbelief over in the end.

A person meets a mysterious stranger in a public setting (usually in a diner) where this stranger is said to appear ordinary at first but eventually other-wordly. What starts as a normal interaction with a friendly stranger turns to something a little more... sinister.

Special thanks to Kristin Davis of Coffincast for joining us in narrating tonight's True Paranormal Story.

Thanks also to SHADOW VIBE for providing tonight's music, "Summit" & "Necronomicon"
