INTERVIEW: Höbin asks Finley Greenhopper about Fungal Horrors
This was not what I was expecting for my first interview, but here it is.
During my personal tour of H1-C-FIN101 (a.k.a. PINWHEEL), armed with my cheap portable recorder, I was shoved into a decontamination chamber to avoid being assimilated by a walking, human-sized fungal parasite chasing Finley and I.
Under the hum of the air exchangers, I try to ask what questions I can think of. I was actually here to talk with Finley about the classifications fo dragons he'd discovered--but sometimes you just get what you get when in the field and doing things live.
If you'd like to read the actual article on the Fungal Horror, you can find it here: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/wantedhero/a/fungal-horror-species

A tomb of knowledge that allows its host to wield vast and seemingly unending power.
...but at a terrible price.
What was it like when he who is called evil took hold of this book fro the first time and used his own blood to open its covers??
Find out.

MUSIC: Attack on Til-Thorin (from book #3, Into the Fire)
I always wondered what it would feel like to see the Vallen horde at the ridge of the distant hills, preparing for their descent against the walls of Til-Thorin Keep.
To witness a sea of muscle and sinew crash against the magically enhanced walls until stone and mortar cracked under the sheer weight of fury and near-desperate hunger for human flesh.
Now I know.
I present to you a brilliant piece of original music, entitled 'Attack on Til-Thorin'.

MUSIC: United in Sorrow
Reaching for her little grandson, Caleb eagerly grasped his Nana’s hand, bathing it in tears.
“Strength, my Caleb. You are the last of this house,” she choked, gripping his hand firmly. “Strength to our family, strength to our people.”
Her head held erect, she looked about in blindness for those she knew would hold compassion and support for her plight.
“Who will help a daughter of Iskäri?” she asked boldly.
Standing, the High Elder removed Caleb, stepping back to make room for the necessary preparations, motioning for Shea to do the same.
Wendell counted as twelve women came forward each offering, “I will help my sister,” as they wept. Sliding their hands under Kyliene’s body, they gingerly lifted her as Moira took the brilliantly white fabric from her arm and gracefully rolled it across the grass. The women gently laid Kyliene down once more, wrapping and tucking the edges to completely cover the body.
Moira placed her hands on Kyliene’s head and wailed, “Never would I have thought this cloth we wove together would have been used for anyone but I!”
Caleb rejoined her as the people gathered around them.
Kneeling in silence, each Iskäri placed their hands upon the shoulders of those in front of them, creating a web of arms and bowed heads, every one reaching into the center towards Caleb and Moira. Each whispered prayers for the last of a family line, offering up all the love and strength of their people.
They wept as one.

This original score was written for my book, Prelude to a Hero, by Ruud Janssen of Myton Music.

MUSIC: Chucks Theme Song (never thought this would happen)
WantedHero.com continues to expand and expand.
Three more composers have come on board to craft music for this epic fantasy world, and Tyler Eddington, a US composer, worked with me to shape what we now present to you:
Chucks Theme Song
- No one knows how old he is.
- He's forgotten more about magic than most mägo have learned,
- His greatest gift and most painful curse, is seeing the past, present, and future at the same time.
- ...and no one really knows how much Chuck truly knows.
In the end, he's always a bit...off.
And we love him dearly.

MUSIC: ISH KROTHI UMBALLA!
Swirling sand, wind, magic, snake, gagging, ISH KROTHI UMBALLA!
This is the interpretation of the opening scenes from PRELUDE TO A HERO, between Shea and his father, The High Elder.

MUSIC: The sound of the ITHARI is revealed to the world!
Of all the songs I imagined, it was Ithari I wanted to hear the most.
To feel the power and connection to the greatest magical artifact in my fictional world? All I could say was, "YES, PLEASE!!"
Beautifully envisioned, masterfully crafted, Kayla Jessop brings to life the centerpiece of my fantasy world...
Based on the book Prelude to a Hero I present the song 'Ithari'.
Please leave a comment wherever you find this displayed.

MUSIC: REMEMBERING KYLIENE -- 3rd original song
This has become one of my greatest dreams come true--to have fans of this story create something amazing, just to share with each other.
In April of 2020, I received an original piece of music from Kayla Jessop, a fan of this fictional world.
Her talent is, to say the least, breathtaking--and she used that talent to capture feelings from these books to share with other readers.
Based on the book Prelude to a Hero I'm delighted to present a new song called 'Remembering Kyliene'
Kyliene, a lovely young blue-skinned teen of Sanctuary, took an instant shine to our Hero-to-be. This delightful music expresses the quirky yet endearing personality of the character readers around the world instantly fell in love with.
Enjoy.

MUSIC: THE FRUIT HARVEST--another original piece of music
What's it's like to have a fan write original scores of music because they were inspired by your worldbuilding and storytelling?
In April of 2020, I got to find out.
I received an email with an attachment that made my heart swell and I shared it with you.
Then it happened again!!
Based on the book Prelude to a Hero this reader created a song called 'The Fruit Harvest' -- where Wendell was welcomed by the blue-skinned youth of Sanctuary during harvest time. At a time when our hero was both scared and unsure of himself, this delightful music depicts the kindness of the youth and the fun of the afternoon, collecting food for the community.
Enjoy.

MUSIC: SANCTUARY -- A fan writes an original song for Wanted Hero!
It's wonderful to write stories that readers enjoy. It's even better when those readers reach out to let you know that what you've written has touched their minds and heart.
...but what's it's like to have a fan write an original score of music because they were inspired, and so they decided to make your world THAT-MUCH-BETTER for everyone else?
I got to find out.
In April of 2020, I received an email with an attachment that made my heart swell. I want to share it with you.
Based on the book Prelude to a Hero this reader created a song called 'Sanctuary' -- imagining what they would feel like walking through the moon-city, where all people live in an isolated harmony, and where the focus is on service, not coin.
Enjoy.

WORLDBUILDING #1: an Introduction
Jaime took some time and grabbed his co-host, rescuing him from a boring afternoon of homework and chores, so he could start making podcasts instead.
Priorities, right?
Every fictional story requires worldbuilding, so why not discuss what makes a great story to help both writers and readers experience more from the stories they enjoy.
Jaime is the author of the popular book, "Advanced Worldbuilding" which you can find on Amazon and through thousands of brick and mortar stores in both the USA and Europe. Readers then requested a unique way to both create and organize their creations into reference books.
Check out Jaime's Advanced Worldbuilding Journal to both record and organize every brilliant idea in a quick reference book.
Now, we also mentioned that Simon has a talent with stick figures, and Jaime wasn't kidding. Head on over to WantedHero.com to see examples of what the boys were talking about!

WHRN S1E3 Rappin' it Up 2 (with Evan & BLOOPERS)
As promised, today I'm bringing you the second show I did with my oldest daughter in 2005 called 'Rappin' it Up' with Ditto and Cosmo, which was based on my comic book series Wanted:Hero.
Listening to this brought back memories of working at home, doing hundreds of takes to get the show right and also reminded me that working with youth isn't always easy...but always worth it.
Today's show has another custom commercial and then at the end of this episode, bloopers were included from the whole process. It was a fantastic experience for all of us and I hope this will show you the kind of fun we hope to bring to you through this new podcast series.
As a reminder, I still have the original comic books available in downloadable PDF's on our site, even though the printed versions are no longer available. You can find the comics in our Wanted Hero store and every purchase supports this show, allowing us to bring you more episodes.
WHRN S1E2 Rappin It Up - Flashback from 2005
As promised, I went looking for the two shows I did with my oldest daughter back in 2005 and I found them both. The audio is a little worn, as electronic files get when not re-saved over time, but they still sound pretty good.
This show "Rappin' it Up" was my daughters idea. She get's all the credit here and it was a brilliant idea: interview the comic book characters from WantedHero.com. She knew that kids loved shows from other kids and she was spot on...the very next morning, less than 12 hours later, we had fan mail and she was an instant hit.
Unfortunately we only made two of these shows--which was an intense process for me personally, trying to be all the voices to meet my daughters questions. So I'd like to share a piece of our podcasting journey with you from 2005.
Enjoy!
