Season 2 - Episode 6 - Dr Blanka Misic
In today's episode, Dr Blanka Misic and I speak about her love for the Cognitive Sciences of Religion and how it led her to apply it to Mithraism! She discusses her current Postdoctoral Fellowship with the University of Vienna and her exciting new research the ‘Cognitive Aspects of Mithraic Rituals in Pannonia’ (CAMRIP) and her new book ‘Senses, Cognition, and Ritual Experience in the Roman World’ which will be available in February 2024.

Season 2 - Episode 5 - Professor David Sick
Today Professor David Sick and I will be speaking about his 2004 paper Mit(h)ra(s) and the Myths of the Sun. This paper considers the history of Mithra with regard to solar mythology.

Season 2 - Episode 4 -Dr Claudina Romero Mayorga
Today Claudina and I will be discussing her research regarding Mithras and how music and theatre may have been a big part of the religion. Claudina explains her research in Mithraic Iconography in Hispania and her 2017 article ‘Music and Theatrical Performance in The Mysteries of Mithras’. We also discuss her influence on The Mérida National Museum of Roman Art and she tells us about one of her favourite sculptures located within the museum.

Season 2 - Episode 3 - Professor Luca Amendola
Today Luca and I will be discussing his fascinating paper Mithras and the Zodiac which was published in 2018. The article focuses on a controversial point, the existence and content of a doctrine of salvation. The paper reviews systematically the literary, epigraphic, architectural, and iconographic evidence of salvation in Mithraism. It presents evidence that supports the existence of a doctrine that included a soul journey towards the solstices, along the lines of a famous passage in Porphyry's De antro nympharum.

Season 1 - Episode 9 - Daniele Sylvester - Doctoral Research Student
Daniele and I talk about her doctoral research on Roman Britain’s iconography of Jupiter cults. She gives her thoughts on the so-called ‘mystery’ or ‘oriental’ cults and advises us on Jupiter cults and if they were similar in any way to the cult of Mithras. We speak about the famous Jupiter altar found at Vindolanda where Jupiter Dolichenus is seen standing on the bull with his thunderbolts.

Season 1 - Episode 8 - Andrew Parkin - Keeper of Archaeology at the GNM
Andrew and I chat about some of the Mithraic objects that are held in the Great North Museum in Newcastle, England, including the objects taken from some of the Mithraea at Hadrian's Wall. He provides information on how to travel around Hadrian's Wall and some other sites to visit if you are ever in Newcastle. Andrew also gives us an interesting insight into the research that is currently being done to show what the altars may have originally looked like in colour.

Nicolas and I discuss the new exhibition ‘The Mystery of Mithras: Exploring the heart of a Roman Cult at The Royal Museum of Mariemont in Belgium. Nicolas tells us about how he got involved in this project and what it means to the museum. He also discusses some of the artefacts that are on show and describes what the reactions have been from visitors to the museum.

Season 1 - Episode 4 - Revd. Professor Martin Henig
Revd. Professor Martin Henig will discuss his long history and experience in investigating Mithras with me. We speak about the finds at Inveresk, specifically its altars. We delve into the London Mithraeum, the eastern influence on Mithras and how art and sculpture influences’ people and their faith. Martin also discusses how his ordainment contributes to how he sees religion and Mithras now.
Season 1 - Episode 3 - Dr David Walsh
In this episode, David tells us how he became interested in Mithras and why he decided to research Mithras for his PhD while focusing on the late third to early fifth centuries of Mithras. We also discuss his paper on ‘Reconsidering the Butt Road "Church," Colchester: Another Mithraeum’ and he gives his thoughts on the London Mithraeum.
Season 1 - Episode 2 - Professor Luther H. Martin
In this episode, Professor Luther H. Martin joins us to speak about his book ‘The Mind of Mithraists’ which was published in 2015 and is a collection of his essays on Mithraism since 1989. Luther will also be telling us all about what first made him interested in the Classical world and of course Mithras. What first got him involved in researching Mithras and Cognitive Studies which is a relatively new method to investigating the ancient world.
Luther has now recently retired from his long and successful career and he gives an insight into what he now gets up to after living with Mithras for years.
