The Saint had a bet on the fight but is now told to call it off. Somethin' ain't right with the boxer it's up to The Saint to figure it out. Vincent Price returns to play Simon Templar on the radio version of The Saint!
Vol 173 Great Gildersleeve-Moving Day & End of 4th Season for Sounds Like Radio!
It's Moving Day finally for Marjorie & Bronco on today's Great Gildersleeve on Sounds Like Radio Volume 173. And it's the end of Season 4 of our Gildy & Music shows & we are celebrating with some great guests and a truly funny stand-up comedienne.
To help out Marjorie & Bronco & to celebrate the end of our 4th season here we have: Patsy Cline, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Bing Crosby & Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day, Hank Snow, Dinah Washington, and Moms Mabley to have us all laughing.

The Library of Sound is open once again with Volume 320 and a neat Nick Carter, Master Detective show titled, "Murder In The Crypt". Isn't that overdoing it? Well we'll see what happens in this August 2, 1943 broadcast. Never fear, your humble host is here with you in the crypt along with the dead body and the murderer of the dead body. You know, things is gettin' a bit crowded.
Vol 172 Great Gildersleeve Sticks As Marjorie & Bronco Want To Be Alone Together
Ahh, to be alone with your sweetheart! That's all Marjorie and the newly returned Bronco want BUT. Gildy and Leroy were all set to go fishing then they got the news Bronco was coming back. Try as they might, Gildy just doesn't take a hint when our young lovebirds try to convince Gildy & Leroy to PLEASE GO FISHING.
It's a funny Great Gildersleeve from May 14, 1952 today on Volume 172 of Sounds Like Radio. Your Humble Host has brought along some mighty fine singers and songs for you too. Joining us will be Jaye P. Morgan in a neat stereo song, Louis Armstrong & Bing Crosby, Martha Tilton, Hoagy Carmichael, a bit of jazz from Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker & Bill Evans, Jo Stafford sings like a bird, and the great Leon Redbone walks around. Bing will even do an encore of one of his best songs from my favorite Bing album. Now that's what I call a show.

Vol 171 Great Cowboy-Cowgirl Music & Great Gildersleeve: Leroy SInging Cowboy
Sounds Like Radio Volume 171 is here as the Great Gildersleeve fears Leroy's ambition to be a singing cowboy. Now if only he had a little singing talent, it might not be so bad. Your Humble Host knows a good cowboy and cowgirl western singer when he hears it, and Leroy ain't it.
Well, to help Leroy know what a good western song sounds like Your Humble Host has invited Merle Haggard, Patsy Montana, Roy Rogers, Emmylou Harris (that's her album cover with today's song in our picture with this show), Bing Crosby, Patsy Montana and Gene Autry. Not bad eh?

Jean Shepherd is back on the Library of Sound Volume 317. And Jean has questions, What's it all for Andy Capp?, To Be Retired?, Why Work? and the Light Brigade. Now that's a lot on your mind. Here's another show Your Humble Host recorded himself on March 21, 1975 and according to my research it was originally broadcast on January 21, 1975. This is a tape you'll only find here as it's from my personal collection recorded off FM so enjoy the excellent sound.

It's the deep blue sea for Gildy, well, it's the deep water reservoir anyway. It's Sounds Like Radio Volume 169 and we find GIldy trying to build up his name as water commissioner in the town. He needs publicity that mean a deep dive in the water reservoir!

Sounds Like Radio Volume 168 is here and with it Your Humble Host has brought with him a couple of hives of bees!! Yipe, don't worry, it's all for Leroy who wants to start up a bee business. The Great Gildersleeve wanted Leroy to think of ways to make money he didn't count on it being bees though.

Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall are back on the Library of Sound Volume 308. Today Bogie plays "Russian Roulette" originally heard around July 2, 1951 as this was a syndicated program there was no one broadcast date. And be sure to hear "Bogie" as he talks with Your Humble Host after the show!
Vol 167 Geat Gildersleeve On The Run
Oh, Your Humble Host has an action packed Great Gildersleeve on Sounds Like Radio Volume 167 this week. It seems our hero is wanted by a desperate woman who claims Gildy is her runaway husband missing for more than a decade. Oh no, Gildy's never been married it's all a mistake. Nothing to do now but put on your running shoes. Today's show originally heard April 2, 1952.
Well, I hate to see Gildy in a pickle and so do these folks who all have a word of advice: Eddy Arnold, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Ink Spots, Kay Starr, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan.
LOS 307 Jean Shepherd Goes Junking Has Jackdaw Syndrome
On the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 307 we find it's time for Your Humble Host to dip into his own Jean Shepherd Vault and pick out another exclusive classic Shep tape that he originally recorded. It was March 20, 1975 Your Humble Host was still a youngster but knew enough to know that recording these Shepherd shows would guarantee I'd be able to listen to them in the future.
Now they've become Shep classic stories. So let's pull out the latest Shep tape as he talks about having the Jackdaw Syndrome when he goes out junking. What's it all mean? Well, let's find out, hit the button.

It's Sounds Like Radio Volume 166 where we find the Gildersleeve family all wanting one thing, this new confangled thing called television. It's March 26, 1952 in Gildy land and Gildy resists his family's TV demands.
So Your Humble Host is here to the rescue as we will be saluting TV with classic TV themes and songs from TV. See if you remember these TV songs we have in store for you. Your Humble Host is back with Volume 165 of Sounds Like Radio. Today the Great Gildersleeve would like to start growing a garden. But wants help from Leroy and Marjorie & Birdy, none of whom have any desire for a garden. From March 19, 1952 it's a flowery problem for all concerned.
But never fear Your Humble Host is consulting Dinah Washington, Vaughn Monroe in a beautiful stereo song, Patsy Cline (pictured with our show holding flowers), Bing Crosby along with a special Bing Bonus flower song too, Astrud Gilberto & Burl Ives!
Now with a line-up like that we may even find someone to help Gildy plant posies.

Sounds Like Radio Volume 164 is here and ready for action. The Great Gildersleeve plans to take a train trip to Omaha but wants to keep it all on the down-low from Leroy as he doesn't want Leroy to start begging to go with him. How's he going to do it, will Leroy find out, will Gildy get any peace, what do we have in store? Today's show is wild one.
Joining me will be Gogi Grant, Dean Martin, Lizabeth Scott, Bing Crosby & Jo Stafford. But then... we are going to sample my own original 45 record collection from when I was a kid & we'll even have a visit from GRANDPA!! And, yes, I said And, we are going to hear one of the all time great true country sounding songs. Bet you never thought to hear Gene Watson & Jr. Walker and Grandpa all in the same wild show. Vol 160 Great Gildersleeve Engagement Ring Mission
Your Humble Host is here with a Great Gildersleeve from February 13, 1952. In today's show it seems Bullard (Gildy's bad neighbor) has gotten word that GIldersleeve it toting an engagement ring about town. Bullard assumes the worst and thinks it's meant for his sister, Paula! Now Bullard must spring into action.
But we're always here to lend a helping hand with these delicate matters and to do that we've got Perry Como, Peggy Lee, Bing Crosby (with a really beautiful song), Helen Ward, Bobby Vinton, K.D. Lang & Ella Fitzgerald.
LOS 298 The Shadow Faces The Black Buddha
The Shadow has returned to the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 298. And just in time as today the Shadow faces "The Black Buddha" as it was originally heard September 4, 1938. Orson Welles, the first of the men to play the Shadow is featured in today's show. Danger lurks and so does Your Humble Host as he hides behind the curtains. Well, I just don't want to spoil the Shadow's fun, that's all.

Your Humble Host is here with Volume 163 of Sounds Like Radio! Today we find the Great Gildersleeve trying to help Marjorie & Bronco get a $2000 loan to finish construction on their house. Where to go? Ahh, how about Bullard, he's loaded BUT wait a minute Bullard and Gildy can't stand each other. Now that's what I call a flaw in the slaw with this plan.
But somehow or another Your Humble Host and his buddies here will come up with a solution. Why to help cogitate on this we have Rosemary Clooney (as seen in our picture with this show displaying all her goodies she has to offer to get Bullard to come to Gildy's house) also with us are Burl Ives, Dinah Washington, Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee, Ink Spots and Jimmy Durante. With this brain trust we just gotta come up with an idea for Marjorie.

Your Humble Host is proud to present one of my favorite good guys, Simon Templar, better known as The Saint. Vincent Price played the Saint on radio and did it quite well. The Saint on TV was Roger Moore but before Moore there was Vincent Price. The Saint stories were always interesting whether from the books, TV or radio. Today the Saint faces a "High Fence" from June 20, 1945.
LOS 293 Boris Karloff Is Back With More Aesop's Fables
Your Humble Host is back in the Reading Corner and has asked Boris Karloff to return to the Library of Sound Volume 293 and to tell us a few more of them really short Aesop's Fables. Today Boris tells us about the Man and the Satyr (a mythical forest creature with the top of a man with a goat's ears, tail and legs), also Boris speaks of the Rooster & the Jewel, the Old Hound and the Mountain In Labor. As Rudy Vallee would say, "My time is your time". And for Your Humble Host today on the Library of Sound Volume 292 that's true as we present this April 20, 1949 broadcast of the great Bing Crosby Show! Bing's guest is the famous crooner from the 1920's the forever college boy, Rudy Vallee. With megaphone in hand he's woo his way to stardom BEFORE Bing's time. This is a funny show too, I think you'll enjoy.
Vol 162 Great Gildersleeve Gives Leroy Freedom
Sounds Like Radio Volume 162 is here with Your Humble Host and the Great Gildersleeve from February 27, 1952. Today Gildy is going to give Leroy his freedom to be responsible for himself. He's gotten tired of telling Leroy what to do so he's going to see how things go if Leroy is, for once responsible for his own chores.
Will Leroy be able to handle this new found freedom? Will all his duties now go to pot? Will Gildy trip over Leroy's skates again?
Well, we're here to help Leroy out in his new quest for freedom. To do so we've brought along Andy Williams, Dorothy Shay, Merle Haggard, Dusty Springfield, Bing Crosby, Doris Day and Burl Ives. Vol 161 Great Gildersleeve Has To Shape Up or Ship Out
Time for Sounds Like Radio Volume 161 with Your Humble Host. Today the Great Gildersleeve from February 20, 1952 has lined up with the mayor an important job for himself. Or so he thinks, till this young college gal comes along and now the mayor has her in mind for the job, of course.
Gildersleeve is now worried this new gal may find him inefficient, she's the efficiency expert don't you know. Well, I have some folks with me to calm Gildy's nerves. On hand today are Fred Astaire, Leanne Rimes, Eddy Arnold, Betty Boop, Bing Crosby, Georgia Gibbs, Nat King Cole & Kay Starr. We'll also get a bit of yodeling in with Elton Britt and a fantastic yodel song.
Well, all this may not help Gildy but it sure sounds great to listen to.
