Tony Gill on the Economics of Gifting, the Longevity of Religious Institutions and More!
In this episode we are joined by Tony Gill, a professor of politics at the University of Washington and scholar on the political economy of religion. Tony tells us about his recent paper defending the institution of gifting from claims by dismal scientists that giving gifts is wasteful and leads to dead weight loss and should be replaced by giving away money or gift cards. He also tells us about his recent institutional analysis of religion and how religions often supply certain public goods much better than the state can.

Liberalism, Power, and Society
In this episode I present the talk I gave at the Markets and Society Conference hosted by the Mercatus Center in late October. It was a really great conference and will be hosted again in October of next year, so I would definitely recommend checking it out. This talk was part of a panel session I organized around the theme of Post-liberalism, Mediating Institutions, and the State. I welcome your thoughts, comments, and questions.
