Vote Twillingate!
We recorded yesterday - Sunday, August 9th - early in the afternoon, about twelve hours before the Leafs lost game 5 3-0 without a miraculous comeback and we brought in our friend Rob Guy, team 3MI defenseman & big Leafs fan, to talk through the hopes he and Chuck shared going into the game.
It's probably quite funny to listen to now. We also talk through the Habs upset over the Pens and more Qualifiers shocks while Mike is just hoping to see the Bruins win a game at some point (he's been waiting since frigging March)
But Rob is from Twillingate, which is a finalist for Kraft Hockeyville this year with voting THIS WEEKEND! He talks us through the history of "The George", hockey's role in the town, and what the investment would mean to them moving forward - he also tells us about the best place to get a plate of wedge fries when you head there to watch a game.
All that and more on this week's 3MI!
We're Back!
With the crazy 2020 season returning we decided it was finally time to shake off the rust and get back at it.
We go through our thoughts on hockey being back and work through some thoughts on the play in series and even though we don't dig too deep into the announcement of the Kraken, Mike decided to make our logo their colours anyway!
Look At Us, Recording Again!
So we don't know if you guys heard, but there's this global pandemic thing that shut hockey down and has lead to some general malaise for a lot of people.
With no hockey and not being able to get together to record, we took some time off to focus on other stuff, but we've had enough of that and it's time to shout about hockey on the internet again.
This one is Mike & Chuck playing catch up, we'll be back with a guest and a full episode next week!
46 - Checking In
The guys talk about how their handling no hockey, offer a brief apology to Flyers fans for sleeping on the team, and provide some updates on how the whole Hockey Heroes Weekend is going.

Episode 45 - Boldly Busting Our Brackets
Mike Knuble - Episode 44
Steve Dangle - Episode 43
But we start the show with some news; you might have seen TR's announcement through Instagram that he's leaving our show to focus on some other stuff including his own "Tales With TR" podcast. We want to say a huge thank you to him for the last year, and wish him all the best with his show.
From there we work at carving out a new era of 3MI - we bring back the Oh Baby Moment as we discuss whether or not it's OK to kick someone, and after the interview with Steve we talk through this years coaching changes in the NHL.

Episode 42
We actually recorded this almost a week ago, but Mike got tied up with some work stuff and was out of town and didn't get it posted before.
We'll have a new episode dropping in just a few days!
Jeff Sirkka - Episode 41
Then our guest Jeff Sirkka gives TR a chance to reference the polish folk dance "the mazurka" in his intro so you know it's going to be a wild one. Jeff had a storied career in the minors and got just about as close as you can get to playing in the NHL without actually playing in the NHL.
We come back to chat about the World Juniors and Newfoundland's top NHL prospects, and get a little more negative than we should with a barroom hypothetical.

Good News Review - Episode 40
Mike Watt - Episode 39
This week we've got a guest who knows what the true meaning of Christmas is all about - beating Russia at the World Juniors.
Mike Watt actually scored the game winning goal against Russia in Canada's first playoff game in the U20 tournament. He'll tell us a bit about that, his pro career, an obligatory Mike Milbury story, and how he headed to the KHL before the lock-out to get jump start on the craziness of playing over there.
Plus, we talk a bunch about the U20 - including why TR wasn't on Mike's team for the 1995-96 tournament (it's a crazy story).

Terran Sandwith - Episode 38
Terran Sandwith is back (and so is TR), but rather than a traditional interview - we've already done that with Sandman - we have a roundtable about what the hell is happening with hockey coaches and the seismic shift that seems to be underway with the attitudes around the job.
We also got the chance to break some exciting news to TR and Sandman in the middle of what got to be a pretty intense discussion.

Matt Wright - Episode 37
Eddie Shack feat. Ken Reid & Senior - Episode 36
Steve Kiely - Episode 35
Tim Thompson - Episode 34
Ryan Anderson - Episode 33
We're all here for the intro, which is nice, and we actually talk about some hockey including who is off to a slow start (The Lightning) and who is off to a huge start (Real Deal James Neal) and then we get to our interview.
Ryan "Skinny" Anderson isn't a name a lot of hockey fans may know out of the gate, having spent his career in Austin and Orlando, but it was in the latter where he caught up with TR, won a championship, and cemented his status as one of the craziest people you'll ever hear from. He went full Ned Braden in an out of town barn after winning the 'ship - and that's just the beginning of the night. You'll also hear about how he "missed" his own wedding (but that really depends on how you define the word "missed").
I'm telling you, this one isn't for the faint of heart. Strap in.

Tara Slone - Episode 32
Jeremy Charles - Episode 31
Jeremy Charles joins the guys at the Ten Dollar Studio and hops in Chuck's empty seat to reminisce about growing up in Mount Pearl, playing PeeWee hockey in Quebec, sitting in Terry's WAG seats at Canadiens games with Sam Roberts (Happy Birthday Sam), and how all that lead him to a fascinating career traveling the world as a renowned chef with two incredibly popular restaurants and a new book, "Wildness", on store shelves now.

Dave Bidini - Episode 30
Off the top TR and Mike share their excitement for this week's guest, along with some thoughts about baseball movies before Chuck arrives just in time for a history lesson about the origins of the Screech In and Mike basically begs for an in-kind sponsorship.
Then we bring in the prolific polymath Dave Bidini to talk about all the things he does and how hockey seems to be at the heart of all of it. Dave talks us through the new Rheostatics record, graciously answers questions about our favourite tunes, records, books, finding hockey in Transylvania, baseball in Italy, and how Wendel Clark gave the best reply to an attempt at introduction ever.
At this point things are running long, to say the least so TR tries to queue up some topics for next week and still gets hauled into a discussion about the salary cap and current RFA class.

Donald MacLean - Episode 29
From Bedford, NS, Donald was a multisport athlete who locked in on hockey and found his way all over the world with the game, including some time right here in St John's with the Baby Leafs. He also spent some time with the Coyotes franchise and had Wayne Gretzky as a coach - which wasn't like you might expect.
We also talk up the massive victory by Bianca Andreescu at the US Open and if pitch counting is hurting or helping young ball players.

Chris Dingman - Episode 28
After that we're joined by two-time Stanley Cup Champ Chris Dingman who delivered Terry's first check. He walks us through his career starting with some pretty wild WHL games where the concessions came into the mix, all the way to his two Cup wins where two long suffering league veterans finally got to hoist Lord Stanley.
Then we chat about Justin Williams non-retirement which somehow drifts into a conversation about how good Mario Lemieux was (and might still be).

Ron MacLean - Episode 27
Before he comes on we catch up on what everyone's been doing the last few week's like TR's new gig and Mike's new backyard tiki bar, and then talk a little about the ever nearer NHL season, who's going to be signed and when, and who's getting suspended for a stupid amount of time by the IIHF.
But then, Ron.
Fun story; when we were recording episode 2 or 3 the local CBC showed up and interviewed us and asked us who our dream guests would be.
This was Chuck's answer.
Ron is a legend. He's a national treasure and you'll quickly figure out why. He talks about his time moving around the country as an army brat before his family settled in Red Deer and he started at the local radio station while he was still in high school and launching a career that has made him one of the most trusted, familiar, and friendly faces in the country.
We're pumped to kick off our second season - and first full NHL season - with Rockin' Ron MacLean.

Rob Frid - Episode 26
Rob Frid is a fighter. He was a fighter in hockey, and now he is a fighter in life. The former London Knight has a hell of a story to tell about how repeated concussion and post-concussion problems had him declared permanently disabled in his mid-30s and how medicinal cannabis has not only helped him, but how he's working to increase awareness of its use in treatment and pain-management.

David Salter feat. Arron Asham
The first of our two guests actually makes an in-person appearance being only the second guest besides Senior to drop in to the Ten Dollar Studio as David Salter joins us to talk about his upcoming WHA book and stories he's collecting from the Atlantic Canadians that played in the wildest hockey league of all time.
Then we bring Arron Asham on the line for a quick catch up and to talk about his golf tournament, Arron's Chance2Play that's happening this coming weekend in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba that TR will be making the trek up for.
All that and more on this week's 3MI.
Bryan Muir - Episode 24
Episode 23 - Free Agency
The boys also talk about some other sports keeping our attention this summer, what is the best baseball movie, Ken Burns' effects and haircuts, when it's OK for soccer players to celebrate and when they should stay on their feet.
We also recorded through peak #kawhiwatch so you can hear Mike constantly refresh twitter while somehow forgetting to Google search.
Darcy Harris - Episode 22
Darcy, a good PEI boy, spent some time in Freddy Beach with TR so the talk turns to the Canadiens system, drafting over-agers, coaches who treat their players less than ideally, and captains you cannot truss.
After that we congratulate future guest of the show Alex Newhook on going in the first round and give some other draft thoughts.
Luke Adam - Episode 21
Luke Adam is back from Germany where he just claimed a title just in time for his birthday and joins us to talk about his home grown progression and time in the NHL and why you should always take your passport on a late night McDonalds run.
There's also some talk about other sports including baseball and why interleague play sucks and all the things we're enjoying about the Raptiz big win!
We should say that it wasn't until after we finished recording that we heard the news about the shooting during the Raptors Parade in Toronto. You'll hear us talk about how great it is that it's been a non-violent celebration up to this point and so the news was shocking to see. We're glad to hear reports that the injuries are non-lifethreatening and we wish the victims a speedy recovery. #WeTheNorth
Jason MacDonald - Episode 20
Check the Live Stream on Facebook
Episode 19 - Mystery Guest
Later we get caught up in some of the early trade talks sweeping through the league and talk about No Trade Clauses in Intentional Offsides.
Plus an added bonus - TR takes a moment to let us all know that blood costs extra and why.
Finally somehow we even end up in Jurassic Park (which is frightening in the dark) by the end of it.
All this, and a whole lot more on this week's Third Man In.
(And if you're checking things out on YouTube and wondering why there isn't a nifty animated waveform thingy it's because Mike had an early flight and didn't have time to wait for the animation to export.)
Brad Brown - Episode 18
A conversation about whether or not the Bruins are a dynasty leads to a talk about the career progression of Zdeno Chara and age and effectiveness in the NHL.
Finally our guest Brad Brown comes out swinging - with his thoughts on fighting in hockey and let's us in on what the difference maker was early on in his NHL career.
All that and more on this week's Episode of 3MI
Al Iafrate - Episode 17
Episode Delay Explainer
Terran Sandwith - Episode 16
Like TR, Terran came up through the WHL with the Tri-City Americans as a super prospect, got drafted high, and has 8 games on his stat line in the NHL.
Fresh off the Alzheimer's Face Off Pro Am Alumni Tournament in Edmonton, the guys look back on the crazy similarities of their careers before they both found a spot on the St. John's Maple Leafs.
Plus, TR drops and epic tale of learning where you stand with the big club, all on this week's 3MI.
BONUS-ISH - Let Chuck Vent About The Leafs

Sit back and strap in for this one. It's going to be a wild one on this weeks Third Man In.
And don't forget all things 3MI, including some sweet merch, are available at our new site 3mipodcast.com!
Sheldon Souray - Episode 14

We touch on the bigger going-ons around the NHL, Mike, TR, and Chuck each taking turns getting mad at the Kadri cross check, and later we weigh in on a couple of series that find themselves with the under dog being top dog at 3-0.
Guest Sheldon Souray brings us his best stories from a long career in the NHL with an added emphasis on the people who helped him not only make it there, but stay there as well.
We get in to all that, and make the exciting announcement that we're launching an online shop today that you can check out at 3mipodcast.com!
