Money and relationships
This week we are preparing for valentines day and talking about money and relationships.
Selina shares her views on young women being expected to give up their hopes, dreams and goals for a relationship, based upon some social media posts she has seen recently asking for advice. She is also discussed who should split the bill on a date, how to discuss money in a relationship and sharing a bank account. It's a very personal episode you may disagree with. Molly Mae, financial privilege and Bad energy (naughty OVO energy)
Welcome back to episode 2 of the Black Girl Finance Podcast.
This week we are talking about financial privilege and privilege in general, a conversation sparked by the now infamous Molly Mae conversation with Steven Barlett on his Diary of a Ceo podcast. I share my thoughts.
The second topic is the customer service failure from OVO energy. At a time when people are anxious about the imminent rising cost of energy bills amongst other financial strains, it's not the kind of customer service email you expect to get signed off, but it did, so let's explore.

We also discuss some financial news - the story of Elisabeth Holmes and the downfall of her Blood testing Theranos. Plus many other financial topics. Have a listen and if there are any podcast topics you like to discuss send an email to office@blackgirlfinance.co.uk

Buy Now Pay later
This week, I am joined by Janice, part of the Black Girl Finance team, to discuss Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL). Buy now pay later companies have sprung up out of nowhere, new shiny and plastered overall shopping carts and payment options of absolutely everywhere I shop.
Easy to use and now thoroughly embedded into our online shopping experience, no wonder BNPL has taken off. However, what are the downsides of BNPL, the FCA will be bringing in regulation and charity Step change have raised concerns about the increasing debt of young people attributed to BNPL.
We discuss What BNPL is? Why you might decide to use it, and how to use it effectively.
Wills, Trusts and Power of Attorney with Wentworth Wills
In this episode, we are joined by the ladies from http://www.wentworthwills.co.uk/ - Charlene and Antoinette Simms.
They have been in estate planning for the past 3 years and they are actively working to inform and empower people from BAME communities to have conversations about Wills, Trusts and Power of Attorney. Estate planning and inheritance issues is a conversation had pretty frequently in newspaper money advice columns and on other money podcasts. It's a subject we definitely need to start talking about as wealth grows and the transfer of wealth starts to happen from one generation to the next.
Charlene and Antoinette - explain why we should ensure we write our will, consider setting up a trust and they also talk us through power of attorney.
Teenagers and money - With Pupils from Sarah Bonnell School

We discussed the importance of saving and not ruining your credit score at a young age. How to have conversation with friends and family about financial inequalities. Tips for setting up a business as a young person and much more.

How to maximise your savings and get on the property ladder with Stepladder
This week we are joined by Osei Downes from Stepladder, which is a modern iteration of the traditional rotating saving scheme, more commonly known as Pardna (Susu) scheme, that our grandparents and parents used.
We are talking about the additional benefits gained from saving using the Stepladder platform and how it has helped numerous people including Osei and his wife save for their first property purchase.
There is some interesting research about the power of peer to peer support when it comes to saving money.

Bitcoin and all things cryptocurrency with special guest Amelie Arras from Zumo money
This week we are talking about everything cryptocurrency and we are joined by Zumo Money Marketing Director Amelie Arras discussing all things cryptocurrency. I first heard of Bitcoin (BTC) back in 2018 when a few of my work colleagues were talking about Bitcoin (BTC) and they were also talking about the dark web which quite honestly was off putting at the time. Luckily the conversation has moved on slightly since then. Our guest Amalie shares her own experience of taking part in the Payment Race in 2017 and falling into the cryptocurrency world, travelling around the US using Bitcoin in 2017. It’s a great story and it’s great to hear stories of women in cryptocurrency. This episode is really timely because Warren Buffet has just shared his thoughts on cryptocurrency. It’s an interesting time to be discussing crypto. Check out Zumo https://instagram.com/zumopay. To follow our guest Amalie https://instagram.com/ameliearras.
